Eluru District Collector instructs officials to identify and admit school dropouts, particularly girls, by July 25
Eluru District Collector K. Vetriselvi has instructed officials from the Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) and Education Departments to identify and admit school dropouts, particularly girl students, by July 25. Joint teams comprising WD&CW District Project Director P. Sarada and District Educational Officer (DEO) M. Venkata Lakshmamma will conduct field visits and raids to locate out-of-school children and facilitate their re-admission in nearby schools. In a recent video conference with officials, Ms. Vetriselvi emphasised the need to curb school dropouts and directed officers to submit resolutions confirming zero-dropout status at the village and mandal levels. According to official estimates, there are around 3,590 school dropouts in Eluru district. The Collector instructed officers to ensure these children are brought back to school and to obtain signed resolutions from headmasters, village sarpanches, and Mandal Education Officers (MEOs) as proof. ICDS officials from the WD&CW Department have also been directed to specifically monitor dropout cases among girls during their school visits. They are to verify whether girls who left higher classes have joined other schools, and to investigate if any of the dropouts were due to child marriages, employment, or other socio-economic reasons. 'The officers must dig deeper into the reasons behind each dropout, especially in the case of girl children, and take necessary corrective steps,' said Ms. Vetriselvi.

Enrol anganwadi children above five years of age in government schools, Eluru District Collector tells officials
Eluru District Collector K. Vetriselvi has directed that all children aged five years and above, currently attending Anganwadi centres, must be enrolled in government schools without fail. She emphasised that CDPOs (Child Development Project Officers) and MEOs (Mandal Education Officers) should work in close coordination to ensure this transition is effectively implemented. The Collector conducted a Zoom conference with school headmasters, education department officials, and ICDS officials from across the district, particularly focusing on schools with zero enrollment. During the meeting, the Collector instructed the headmasters of zero-enrollment schools to take proactive steps to enrol eligible Anganwadi children into their respective government schools. She stressed the importance of giving this task special attention to improve enrollment rates. In cases where Mandal Education Officers and CDPOs claim that no children are present in the habitation, Ms. Vetriselvi asked them to verify the claim and submit a formal report confirming the same. ICDS Project Director P. Sharada, DEO M. Venkata Lakshmamma, various Mandal-level Education Officials, Deputy Education Officers, and CDPOs were present.

Teachers protest deferred after School Education Department agrees to meet some of their key demands
Leaders of the Andhra Pradesh Teachers Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Tuesday said that they had temporarily deferred their proposed protest after the School Education Department officials agreed to meet some of their key demands. In a statement, the JAC State president G. Hrudaya Raju and general secretary S. Chiranjeevi said that the talks held with the department officials were successful as they agreed to implement transfers of Secondary Grade Teachers (SGTs) in manual mode, to create a second section in High Schools where student strength exceeded 49, sanction a second post in Foundation Schools where student strength exceeded 20, and to run the primary sections currently managed within High Schools as separate entities. They said that the officials had also agreed to adjust academic instructors or surplus teachers for subjects concerned in case of increased workload, not to include the posts of teachers who were on study leave and were scheduled to return by August, 2025, as vacant in the transfer schedule, and no blocking of posts in the current transfer cycle. They said that their demand for promotions to 1,382 Primary School Headmasters (PSHM) was granted and also a grant of seven extra points in transfers to teachers who had undergone re-apportionment twice in the past. The JAC leaders said that they were assured that a committee would be formed in June to resolve issues related to common service rules, and that a decision on mutual transfers between Mandal Education Officers (MEOs) and headmasters would be taken up after the current cycle of transfers. They said that the officials had informed they would take a final decision on their demand for parallel medium (language of instruction) after discussing it with the Minister of Human Resource Development Nara Lokesh.

Biometric attendance for teachers approved
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, while presiding over a review meeting on school education, emphasised the importance of foundational learning and early childhood care & education (ECCE). He approved the decentralisation of financial and administrative powers to the school level for headmasters and supported the dissolution of additional or duplicate posts for town officers, District Education Officers (DEOs), and directors stressed the importance of digitizing the education department. This digitisation will involve monitoring and evaluation (M&E) processes, such as tracking attendance for teachers and students using facial recognition technology. Additionally, there will be an effort to eliminate unnecessary administrative layers from the taluka to the divisional level. A significant emphasis will be placed on technical education and skill development through initiatives like Middle Tech and Matric Tech. Enrolment Statistics The CM was informed that there are 40,990 schools in the province, which include 36,300 primary schools, 2,600 elementary schools, 1,600 secondary schools, and 490 higher secondary schools. Current enrollment across all schools stands at 5.2 million, comprising approximately 3.09 million boys. Model Schools The CM has decided to transform existing high schools into model schools, establishing four model schools in each taluka to enhance the quality of education. By the 2025-26 academic year, approximately 150 schools will be developed as model institutions, with a total of 600 schools expected to be transformed by the end of the 2028-29 academic year. Missing Facilities The CM noted many schools lack basic facilities like water, sanitation, and solar power. He approved empowering headmasters through school-specific budgets and upgrading 1,600 primary schools to secondary level with essential amenities.
