Egypt rejects claims of plan to relocate half a million Gazans to North Sinai
Egypt State Information Service (SIS) has denied media reports claiming that it was 'prepared to temporarily relocate half a million Gazan residents to a designated city in North Sinai as part of a Gaza Strip reconstruction plan.' In a statement, the SIS asserted that these claims were false and fundamentally contradict Egypt's position, which was declared at the onset of the war on Gaza in October 2023. Egypt has consistently rejected any attempt to displace Palestinians, whether forcibly or voluntarily, to any location outside of Gaza, particularly to Egypt. The SIS stated that such actions would constitute a negation of the Palestinian cause and pose a significant threat to Egypt's national security. The SIS emphasized that Egypt's stance underpins the reconstruction plan presented at the recent Cairo Arab Emergency Summit. This plan, unanimously approved by the summit, aims to rebuild Gaza without displacing any Palestinians. US President Donald Trump, who in February proposed relocating approximately two million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to neighbouring Middle Eastern countries. Trump suggested this would allow the United States to develop the territory into a 'Riviera of the Middle East.' His plans was firmly rejected by Egypt and Jordan. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi responded to Trump's initial suggestion by saying: 'In Egypt, we have warned since the beginning of the crisis that what was happening was an attempt to render the Gaza Strip uninhabitable, paving the way for the displacement of the Palestinians. I state it unequivocally: The displacement of the Palestinian people from their place is an injustice. We cannot condone or be a part of the unjust displacement of Palestinians.' Egypt has developed a plan, with Arab support, to rebuild Gaza without displacing its Palestinian population. The plan involves establishing 'secure areas' within Gaza where Palestinians can reside while Egyptian and international construction firms remove debris and rehabilitate the strip's infrastructure.

Hamas delegation arrives in Cairo for a new round of ceasefire talks - Foreign Affairs
A delegation representing Hamas leadership arrived in Cairo to discuss the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and advance negotiations toward the second phase of the deal, Egypt State Information Service (SIS) announced on Friday afternoon. The SIS stated that Egypt is intensifying communications with Qatar, the US, and other relevant parties to guarantee transitioning to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. On Tuesday, Hamas rejected a US-Israeli proposal to extend the first phase of the ceasefire deal by one month and swap more captives for prisoners because it did not include any guarantees that Tel Aviv would permanently end its war on Gaza. Hamas stated it was willing to release all remaining captives in phase two — but only in exchange for the freedom of a larger group of Palestinian prisoners, a permanent ceasefire, and Israel's complete withdrawal from the strip. On Sunday, a day after the first phase of the ceasefire expired, Israel suspended the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza, renewing its deadly blockade and warned of 'additional consequences' if Hamas did not consent to extending the first phase of the ceasefire and releasing more captives. The first phase of the ceasefire deal/prisoner swap deal between Israel and Hamas, brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the US and in effect since 19 January, stipulated the entry of humanitarian aid to the strip to alleviate near-famine conditions. According to the ceasefire agreement brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the US, the second phase of the deal should include negotiations on a permanent ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal, and an end to the war. Meanwhile, the White House confirmed on Wednesday that US officials have engaged in direct talks with Hamas, breaking from a longstanding policy of avoiding direct engagement with the Palestinian resistance movement since 1997. Envoys from Doha, Washington, and Tel Aviv hold Gaza ceasefire talks in Cairo
Envoys from Tel Aviv, Doha, and Washington began intensive talks in Cairo on Thursday to discuss the next steps in the Gaza ceasefire agreement, according to the Egypt State Information Service. The statement from the service confirmed that delegations from "Israel" and Qatar arrived in Cairo to continue negotiations related to the ceasefire in Gaza, with US representatives also taking part in the discussions. The parties involved have initiated intensive talks to review the next stages of the deal, with ongoing efforts to ensure the implementation of the agreed-upon terms, as reported by AFP. "Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent negotiators to Cairo after Hamas handed over the bodies of four captives on Wednesday night in exchange for the release of over 800 Palestinian detainees. This exchange marked the latest step in the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, which is set to end on Saturday. There are still 58 captives remaining in Gaza, including 34 whom the "Israeli" military claims have been confirmed dead. The first phase of the ceasefire, which began on Jan. 19, was supposed to include negotiations on the second phase, aimed at securing a permanent end to the conflict and completing the release of the captives, during the six-week duration of phase one. However, these talks have yet to take place. Hamas has announced its willingness to release all captives "in one batch" during the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
