Sisi urges adherence to Iran-Israel ceasefire, says regional escalation threatened widespread violence

Photos of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi (R) and his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian (L) - Compiled by the Egyptian Presidency CAIRO – 25 June 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's commitment to doing everything necessary to reinforce the recently announced ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, on Wednesday. Sisi welcomed the announcement of the ceasefire agreement, stressing the importance of solidifying and adhering to this agreement, especially given the regional escalation that almost plunged the area into chaos and widespread violence, the Egyptian Presidency reported. The phone call covered Egypt's intensive efforts and communications over the past days with various concerned parties, notably the United States, to contain the escalation and restore calm and stability to the region. The two leaders stressed the importance of resuming negotiations between Washington and Tehran regarding the nuclear program, addressing concerns related to nuclear non-proliferation, and promoting the establishment of a weapons of mass destruction-free zone in the Middle East. They described the current period as critical and sensitive, requiring pushing towards comprehensive political solutions and adopting approaches that consider the various dimensions related to regional security. The Iranian president expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Sisi, commending Egypt's wise positions that support the restoration of stability in the region and the efforts to prevent bloodshed among all parties. Israel and Iran have committed to a ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump early on Tuesday less than two days after the US launched heavy strikes on Iran's nuclear sites of Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan. Trump dubbed the strike 'very successful,' claiming that key enrichment facilities there were 'totally and completely obliterated.' The US strikes came amidst the 12-day war between Israel and Iran, which culminated in a ceasefire after Tehran launched a limited retaliatory strike on the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Tel Aviv initiated the war on 13 June, bombing nuclear and military sites in Iran and assassinating key military officials and senior nuclear scientists. The Israeli strikes disrupted Omani-mediated talked between the US and Iran that aimed at limiting Iran's nuclear enrichment.

Houthis launch 4th missile attack on Israel in a week, warn ‘operations will escalate'

CAIRO – 23 May 2025: The Houthis announced on Friday targeting Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv on Friday with a hypersonic ballistic missile, marking their fourth attack on Israel this week. 'The operation has successfully achieved its objective,' Houthis' spokesman Yahya Saree announced in a video statement. 'It caused millions of herds of usurping Zionists to flee to shelters and halting airport operations,' he added. Saree warned that the Houthis' operations against Israel 'will escalate' as long as the Israeli attacks and besiege on Gaza persist. Israel, who is facing unprecedented pressures from its closest allies over its handling of the war in Gaza, has pledged to resume a 'minimal' amount of humanitarian aid into the enclave after nearly three months of blockade#Egypt #Africa #MENAhttps:// — Egypt Today Magazine (@EgyptTodayMag) May 21, 2025 The Israeli army announced intercepting the attack with no reports of injuries or damage. The missile attack set off sirens early today in central Israel, including Tel Aviv, according to Israeli reports, causing nearly a million residents to rush to bomb shelters. The Houthis, who have launched hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones on Israel since the start of the Israeli war in Gaza in 2023, say their fresh attack comes in affirmation of their solidarity with the Palestinian people. Their attacks have continued despite Israeli airstrikes that targeted ports and other vital facilities in Yemen and killed several people. The war in Gaza has killed nearly 54,000 people, predominantly women and children, according to local health officials.

CAIRO – 17 May 2025: Early Saturday morning, the Israeli occupation forces began expanding their military operations in Gaza amid Hamas's reluctance to agree to a temporary halt of the fighting and give up on their long-held demand of a permanent end to the war. The Israeli government has called up tens of thousands of reservists for the operation. The Israeli army plans to remain in any area it occupies. Below them was the text: "O residents of Gaza, the Israeli army is coming." On the ground, 13 Palestinians were killed and others wounded on Saturday when the Israeli occupation bombed civilian homes in Jabalia, north of the Gaza Strip, and Khan Yunis, south of the Strip. Local sources reported that an Israeli drone bombed a house in the western camp in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, killing two citizens and wounding others. UPDATED: Horror in Tel Aviv as missile attack from Yemen triggers sirens in central Israel

Footage showed beachgoers in Tel Aviv rapidly evacuating in large numbers amidst the blaring sirens – Social media CAIRO – 9 May 2025: A missile attack from Yemen triggered sirens across central Israel on Friday, causing panic as many fled to shelters before the Israeli army announced successful interception. Footage showed beachgoers in Tel Aviv rapidly evacuating in large numbers amidst the blaring sirens. The Israeli military confirmed the interception of the ballistic missile with no reports of injuries or damage. The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it involved a hypersonic ballistic missile that targeted Ben Gurion Airport. Houthis' military spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a video statement on X that the missile 'successfully achieved its purpose, pushing millions of occupying Zionists to run into shelters and halting airport operations for nearly an hour.' The Houthis' UAV force also conducted a drone attack on a 'vital target' in Yaffa, added Saree. He renewed their warning to global airlines to immediately halt their flights to occupied Palestinian territories and stressed that their ban on air navigation on Israel will continue until Gaza war stops and blockade on the enclave is lifted. Israeli ambulance reports that they have treated eight people from injuries as a ballistic missile launched from Yemen struck Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, successfully breaching Israeli air defenses#Egypt #Africa #MENAhttps:// — Egypt Today Magazine (@EgyptTodayMag) May 4, 2025 This attack follows recent Israeli airstrikes on Yemen's Hudaydah port city and Sanaa airport earlier this week, which killed and injured several people. The strikes reportedly destroyed three Yemen Airways aircraft and rendered the airport completely inoperable. The Israeli retaliation came after a successful Houthi missile strike on Israel's Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, injuring six people. The Houthis have launched numerous ballistic missiles at Israel and also targeted Israeli-linked shipping in the Red Sea in solidarity with the Palestinian people since the outbreak of the Gaza war in 2023. While the US had launched an intensified campaign of strikes on Yemen since mid-March in response to their targeting of shipping, President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that the US would halt bombings after a deal was reached. However, the Houthis clarified that their agreement with the US does not include Israel, and they will continue their attacks against Israeli shipping and territories. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed hope for continued commitment to the agreement, leading to positive progress in ending the Israeli war in Gaza and supporting efforts to achieve regional security and stability.#RedSea #Egypt #yamen — Egypt Today Magazine (@EgyptTodayMag) May 7, 2025
