Egyptian-Japanese KOSEN Institute opens admissions for preparatory school graduates - Society

Egypt's Education Development Fund (EDF) has announced the opening of admissions to the Egyptian-Japanese KOSEN Institute in 10th of Ramadan City for students holding a preparatory school certificate, starting 21 July and closing on 31 July at 4pm. EDF Secretary General Rasha Sharaf said this year's admission is available to students who scored 85 percent or higher in their preparatory stage, according to an EDF statement on Tuesday. She added that the institute offers a unique educational experience in partnership with Japan, aiming to produce highly qualified graduates with top-tier technological skills. KOSEN is a five-year higher education institution in Japan, where students can enrol at the age of 15 after graduating from junior high school, to foster engineers in high demand by society. Inspired by this model, Egypt has adopted the KOZEN programme. This five-year advanced engineering education system focuses on early field exposure to connect students with real-world market needs. On 15 July, Egypt signed a cooperation protocol with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to officially launch the programme. Under the agreement, the first group of students will begin the five-year Japanese-inspired engineering diploma in September at the Productivity and Vocational Training Authority centre in 10th of Ramadan City. The diploma qualifies graduates to enrol in technological universities, engineering faculties, and computer science colleges, ensuring a smooth transition into higher education and careers in high-demand technical fields. Application procedures, entrance test Sharaf noted that passing a written entrance exam, followed by a personal interview to assess the student's vocational aptitude and basic skill level, is among the admission requirements. Application procedures begin by creating a personal account on the fund's official website, verifying the email through a confirmation message, registering for the entrance test, selecting an appropriate exam centre, and uploading all required documents to the platform. Sharaf affirmed that all applicants will be contacted with their test dates and payment instructions for the exam fees. The admission test for the institute is a multidisciplinary exam conducted in two sessions, each lasting 90 minutes. The exam covers four subjects: Mathematics, Science, English Language, and IQ. Each subject consists of 60 questions and is administered in English. Examinations will be held from 4 to 13 August 2025, and the passing score is 50 out of a maximum of 100. Moreover, Sharaf highlighted a cooperation protocol signed between the fund and Misr El Kheir Foundation to offer 100 scholarships covering 50 percent of tuition fees for outstanding and financially disadvantaged students, provided they pass the entrance assessments. She also reaffirmed the fund's commitment to supporting high-achieving students, who are interested in modern technological education that aligns with labour market demands and offers real development opportunities. "This effort aligns with the state's vision to enhance the quality and outcomes of technological education in support of comprehensive development," she concluded. Ministry of Education opens applications for trainee teachers at Egyptian-Japanese Schools - Society

The Ministry of Education has begun accepting applications for the role of Trainee Teacher at Egyptian-Japanese Schools (EJS), marking the first time the position has been offered. The post is available for a period of one to two academic years. Applicants aged 21 to 23 can apply through a dedicated online portal for 15 days. Candidates will be evaluated based on specific criteria, including motivation for teaching and creative potential in educational settings. According to a ministry statement, selected trainees will receive intensive technical and personal assessments to identify the most qualified and prepared individuals. Successful candidates will undergo practical training and receive continuous academic and technical support to enhance their professional capabilities and adopt modern teaching methodologies in an interactive learning environment. The initiative introduces a new pathway for recent graduates to gain real-world classroom experience while being immersed in an advanced educational model aligned with international standards for teacher preparation. The Ministry described the move as a significant addition to its teacher qualification system and a reflection of the EJS model's commitment to nurturing educators with both academic and pedagogical competence. Egyptian-Japanese Schools follow the Japanese Tokkatsu philosophy, which emphasizes holistic student development, cooperation, discipline, and responsibility through daily integrated educational activities. In May, the Ministry announced that 11 new EJS schools will open for the 2025/2026 academic year, raising the total to 69 across the country. The EJS initiative was launched in 2016 following President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's visit to Japan, which led to a strategic partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to support the development of 100 schools with Japanese expertise and funding. Egypt to launch 5-year Japanese-inspired engineering diploma in September

Egypt signed a cooperation protocol with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Tuesday to launch a five-year Japanese-inspired engineering diploma in September for post-preparatory school students. The Industry Ministry's Productivity and Vocational Training Authority (PVTD) and the cabinet's Education Development Fund (EDF) have signed the protocol with the JICA. Per the agreement, the PVTD, in coordination with the Ministries of Education and Higher Education, will host the first group of students from the Egyptian-Japanese KOZEN Institute at its centre in 10th of Ramadan City in September for the advanced engineering programme. The KOZEN programme is a five-year advanced engineering education system inspired by Japan's system, focusing on early field exposure for post-preparatory school students. The diploma qualifies graduates to enrol in technological universities, engineering faculties, and computer science colleges. A cabinet statement said this strategic partnership aims to significantly improve the quality of graduates and align education with local, regional, and international labour market needs in relevant specialities. Moreover, the protocol includes advanced training programmes in microelectronics, semiconductors, green energy, and solar panels. It also aims to exchange knowledge, build students' capacity, and develop trainers for KOZEN instructors. Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel-Latif, and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour also attended the signing ceremony of the protocol. During the ceremony, El-Wazir stated that the initiative marks a significant milestone in the history of Egyptian industry and technical education, as it helps provide a skilled technical workforce to meet market needs. He added that it aligns with Egypt's vision for industrial advancement, which focuses on qualifying human resources by developing vocational training programmes in collaboration with the ministry. El-Wazir further emphasized the importance of benefiting from the Japanese experience in training technical labour to increase demand for Egyptian labour domestically and abroad. He also affirmed the ministry's commitment to upgrading training at the PVTD centres and enhancing labs to produce technically proficient graduates. "This aligns with the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulations, requiring imports to meet green manufacturing standards starting in 2027," he said. International cooperation For his part, Minister Ashour praised this cooperation as a successful model of partnership with JICA, highlighting Japan's leadership in this area. He pointed to the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology, which qualifies students for the Egyptian, regional, and African labour markets. He stated that 40 cooperation protocols have previously been signed with major private sector investors to operate vocational training centres, aiming to help meet industry labour demands by developing trainers, engineers, and new specialisations. Meanwhile, Minister Abdel-Latif emphasized the ministry's strong focus on the technical education sector as a cornerstone of Egypt's economic and industrial future, the statement said. He highlighted the ministry's adoption of a new vision for technical education and the establishment of an internationally standardized education system that offers globally recognized certifications to graduates. Abdel-Latif also commended the effectiveness of the cooperation with Japan through the KOZEN model, as well as with Italy through the Don Bosco model, one of the most successful and long-standing systems in Egypt. Additionally, he affirmed that the ministry is working to expand cooperation with Germany and that new technical education schools and centres of excellence will be created with international standards. In May, Egypt and Germany signed a 118 million euro financial cooperation agreement in the education and energy sectors. This includes a 32 million euro grant to establish 25 Egyptian centres of excellence for supporting technical education. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

15 New Egyptian-Japanese Schools Set to Open in September

Egypt's Japanese school network integrates 'Tokkatsu' activities that are focused on personal development. May 07, 2025 Egypt's network of Egyptian-Japanese schools will soon expand, with 15 new institutions scheduled to open this September. The announcement was made during a meeting between Egypt's Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mohamed Abdel Latif, and Japan's Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, Abei Toshiko, during her first official visit to Egypt. The meeting focused on strengthening educational cooperation between the two countries, particularly in relation to the Egyptian-Japanese school model, which has grown to 55 schools nationwide. The addition of 15 more schools later this year reflects the government's continued commitment to the programme, which incorporates Japan's 'Tokkatsu' activities into its curriculum. These activities are designed to enhance students' social, behavioural and personal skills alongside academic learning. The ministers also reviewed joint efforts in technical education. This includes Applied Technology Schools established in collaboration with leading Japanese companies such as Toyota, Casio and Yamaha. According to Abdel Latif, Egypt currently has 90 frameworks for these schools, and is seeking further cooperation with Japan to improve a broader network of 1,270 schools across the country. Both ministers affirmed the importance of deepening the partnership and expanding collaboration to raise educational standards and offer more diverse learning models to Egyptian students.
