Convoy to Gaza departs Tunisia in bid to break blockade
A humanitarian convoy aimed at breaking the blockade on Gaza has begun its journey from several Tunisian cities, organisers say. The initiative, launched on Monday, is expected to travel across Libya and Egypt before reaching the Rafah border crossing into the Gaza Strip. Organised by the Joint Coordination for Palestine, the convoy includes representatives from civil society groups, trade unions, political parties, medical associations, and youth organisations. Its route will take it from Tunis, Sousse, Sfax and Gabès to the southern city of Ben Gardane, near the Libyan border. The convoy will then proceed along the Libyan coastline before heading to Cairo and onwards to Rafah on the Egyptian-Palestinian border. Organisers say the mission is intended to show solidarity with the Palestinian people and to deliver humanitarian aid. The effort has received backing from major Tunisian institutions, including the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), the National Union of Tunisian Journalists, the Tunisian Bar Association, the Tunisian Human Rights League, the Doctors' Union, and the Young Doctors' Organisation. Initially scheduled to depart on 14 June, the launch was moved forward to 9 June to align with the arrival of international delegations in the region. Separately, a coalition of more than 32 international unions and rights organisations recently announced a 'Global March to Gaza' to highlight what it called the dire humanitarian crisis facing Palestinians. The marchers plan to enter Gaza on foot.

One Last Thing: May Calamawy on her biggest pet peeve and the motorcycle ride she can't remember
Egyptian-Palestinian actress May Calamawy needs no introduction. She has been acting since 2006, with roles in everything from Tobe Hooper's Djinn to Madam Secretary. But she probably came firmly on to the radar of television watching audiences for her role as the acerbic Dena Hassan on Ramy Youssef's award-winning series Ramy. Since then, she has entered a rarefied stratosphere of global entertainment, becoming the first Arab superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing Layla El-Faouly, aka Scarlet Scarab, in Moon Knight on Disney+ opposite seasoned actors Ethan Hawke and Oscar Issac. Her latest role is in a smaller film, The Actor, based on the novel Memory by Donald E Westlake about a man with amnesia. Proposal to displace Palestinians from Gaza, ‘unrealistic': John Bolton
CAIRO – 14 March 2025: Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton said that the proposal to displace Palestinians from Gaza is 'unrealistic', explaining that Palestinians should stay in the Strip. Bolton stressed in statements to al Qahera news channel, on Friday, the need to work on rebuilding the Gaza Strip, explaining that the Egyptian government has all effective tools to help with Gaza reconstruction. 'We acknowledge Egypt's vital role in addressing the situation in the Gaza Strip,' Bolton said. Advisor to the Palestinian president, Mahmoud al-Habbash, stressed the importance of intensifying all efforts to begin implementing the Egyptian-Palestinian plan for the reconstruction of Gaza. In televised statements on Friday, al-Habbash stressed the need to 'turn the page' on the war and begin implementing the Arab vision crystallized at the emergency Arab Summit held in Cairo earlier this month. He also emphasized the need to implement the Egyptian-Palestinian plan to repair the damage caused by the Israeli aggression and rebuild normal life in the Gaza Strip, paving the way for the launch of a political process leading to an end to the occupation and a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on international legitimacy. A negotiating delegation from the Palestinian Islamic Movement (Hamas) headed to Cairo, on Friday, to meet with Egyptian officials and follow up on developments in the negotiations and the ceasefire agreement.

Palestinian president advisor stresses importance of implementing Egyptian plan for Gaza reconstruction
CAIRO – 14 March 2025: Advisor to the Palestinian president, Mahmoud al-Habbash, stressed the importance of intensifying all efforts to begin implementing the Egyptian-Palestinian plan for the reconstruction of Gaza. The delegation is headed by the movement leader Khalil al-Hayya, the statement added. In another statement in English on its Telegram channel, the movement received a proposal from mediators on Thursday to resume negotiations, and responded positively. The Movement submitted its response early Thursday morning, agreeing to release Zionist soldier Edan Alexander, who holds US citizenship, along with the remains of four others with dual citizenship. A total of 59 captives remains in Hamas's custody in Gaza following the 7 October attacks including at least 22 who are still alive. Edan Alexander is the only living captive among five Americans held by Hamas fighters in the enclave. It is not yet clear when the captives will be released or whether the four bodies will belong to American captives.
