Egypt, Poland FMs discuss regional developments - Foreign Affairs
Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Gaza, with his Polish counterpart, Radosław Sikorski, in a phone call on Thursday. The two ministers reviewed the positive momentum in Egyptian-Polish relations over the past few years. They expressed mutual interest in further elevating ties by boosting bilateral trade and increasing Polish investments in Egypt. The call also included a follow-up on the outcomes of Minister Sikorski's recent visit to Cairo in April 2025. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing bilateral institutional mechanisms, including the Joint Economic Committee. Abdelatty praised Poland's leadership during its current presidency of the European Union in the first half of 2025 and welcomed the recent decision by the European Council — supported by a majority of EU member states — to approve the disbursement of the second tranche of EU financial assistance to Egypt, amounting to €4 billion. He expressed appreciation for Poland's supportive role within various EU institutions, particularly during its presidency. The call also covered regional developments. Abdelatty briefed his counterpart on Egypt's communications to help stabilize the ceasefire between Iran and Israel and de-escalate tensions across the region. He emphasized the urgent need for both parties to uphold the ceasefire in the interest of regional security and stability. For his part, Sikorski expressed Poland's deep appreciation for Egypt's active role in promoting regional peace and security. OPEN// FM appreciates Poland's support for Egyptian-relevant files addressed by EU
CAIRO, April 16 (MENA) - Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty voiced appreciation for Poland's support for the Egyptian files addressed by the EU. He made the remarks during a meeting on Wednesday with Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf said. Abdelatty said he is looking forward to Poland continuing to support Egyptian files, especially in light of the economic challenges facing Egypt and the hosting of a large number of refugees. Within this context, he welcomed the European Parliament's vote backing the second tranche of the European financial package to Egypt at 4 billion euros on April 1. He voiced appreciation for the development of the Egyptian-Polish relations, highlighting the importance of the Polish foreign minister's visit to Egypt, especially in light of Poland's current presidency of the EU. Abdelatty voiced hope to further coordination and consultation between the two countries and build on the outcome of the first session of the joint economic committee, which was held in December 2024. Abdelatty said he is looking forward to promoting economic and trade cooperation and boosting Polish investments in Egypt, commending the rise in Polish tourism in Egypt over the past period. The two ministers also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues, topped by the conditions in the Gaza Strip. Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's stand concerning the developments in Gaza and the importance of resuming the ceasefire deal. He also tackled the Gaza reconstruction plan, which was endorsed at the Arab and Islamic levels. He lauded the Polish stand rejecting the forced displacement of the Palestinians. Egyptian-Polish relations ‘example to be emulated': Polish FM
CAIRO – 16 April 2025: Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said on Wednesday that Egyptian-Polish relations are an 'example to be emulated'. Sikorski added, in a joint press conference with Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty, that his talks in Egypt addressed the current international situation. He explained that Egypt and Poland face challenges such as the Russian-Ukrainian war, the situation in Gaza, the situation in the Red Sea, illegal immigration, instability in Libya, and the civil war in Sudan, all of which have impacted security. He noted that Egypt is affected by rising prices due to the Russian-Ukrainian war, and Poland is also affected by the flow of illegal immigration. 'I explained to Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty the main points of the program for Poland's EU Presidency,' Sikorski said, noting that there is cooperation between the European Union and Egypt, in accordance with the Association Agreement signed in March of last year. He affirmed Poland's support for the second tranche of the microfinance package directed to Egypt, and also encouraged the modernization and reform programs being implemented in Egypt. He emphasized the importance of Polish tourism in Egypt, noting that in 2024, Poland ranked fifth in the number of travelers to Egypt. He expressed his hope for direct flights and approval to increase the number of travelers from Poland. He also stressed the importance of bilateral economic cooperation between both countries, as major Polish companies are investing in Egypt. He also expressed his gratitude for the removal of bureaucratic obstacles, noting that cooperation in Egyptian antiquities will be part of the partnership between our two countries.
