Yogi Adityanath plants sapling on Syama Prasad Mookerjee's death anniversary
Bhadohi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 23 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath planted a sapling under the 'Ek ped maa ke naam' campaign in Bhadohi on the Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee's death anniversary on Monday. Earlier in the day, paying tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the Chief Minister described the late leader as a 'distinguished scholar, a great freedom fighter, and a visionary.' Mookerjee founded Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which later took shape as the BJP. Adressing a gathering in Lucknow, Adityanath said, 'The day marks the sacred death anniversary of the great son of Mother India, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the founding president of the Bharatiya Janata Sangh. On this very day, in 1953, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee sacrificed his life for the cause of a united India. Dr. Mookerjee was a distinguished scholar, a great freedom fighter, and a visionary who dreamt of a 'Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat'.' Adityanath highlighted Mookerjee's significant role in shaping India's early industrial policies as the country's first cabinet minister in post-independence India. Chief Minister Yogi said, 'As a Cabinet Minister in independent India, he played a significant role in shaping the country's industrial policy, benefiting the nation with his visionary leadership. As the cabinet minister, he played a pivotal role in addressing the country's food needs as the first minister in independent India. He resigned from the central cabinet, observing the actions of the government under Pandit Nehru's leadership after independence, particularly the manipulation of national unity and integrity. Dr. Mookerjee went on to lead the Bahratiya Janata Sangh (Indian People's Union), giving rise to a new political beginning in the country.' CM Yogi noted that a key part of Mookerjee's struggle was his opposition to Article 370, which granted special autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir and undermined national unity. 'After independence, in 1950, with the implementation of the Constitution, and after the first general elections in 1952, the then government introduced Article 370 in the Constitution, which posed a challenge to national unity. The government implemented a permit system in Kashmir, and those sitting in power began to undermine the national security and integrity of the country. Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, in response, entered Kashmir proclaiming the slogan 'Ek Pradhan, Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan'. He was arrested, and he sacrificed his life in jail on 23rd June 1953 in Jammu and Kashmir.' Adityanath also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for realising Mookerjee's vision. 'The dream that Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee envisioned in 1953 of a united, strong, and secure India was realized years later under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. On August 5, 2019, Article 370 was abrogated in Kashmir, aligning with the democratic values of the Indian Constitution and fulfilling the vision of 'Ek Bharat, Sresht Bharat.' The removal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir is a mark of gratitude towards Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee by the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party.' (ANI)

Leaders Honor Syama Prasad Mookerjee On 72nd Death Anniversary
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leaders commemorated the 72nd death anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on June 23, 2025, honoring the founding president of Bharatiya Jana Sangh for his unwavering dedication to national unity. Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi praised Mookerjee's exceptional bravery and determination in preserving India's territorial integrity. The Prime Minister emphasized that Mookerjee's contributions to nation-building continue to inspire reverence across the country. Born in Calcutta in 1901, Mookerjee was a distinguished academic who transitioned into politics in Bengal during pre-independence India. Initially a member of the Hindu Mahasabha, he served in Prime Minister Nehru's first cabinet but resigned in 1950 due to ideological differences with Congress policies. In 1951, Mookerjee collaborated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to establish the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which later evolved into the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is regarded, alongside Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, as one of the BJP's foundational ideologists. Mookerjee was particularly vocal about his opposition to Article 370, which provided special constitutional status to Jammu and Kashmir. He believed this provision hindered the region's complete integration with India and campaigned vigorously for its removal. His principled stance led to his tragic death in 1953. Mookerjee deliberately entered Jammu and Kashmir without the required permit to protest the dual governance system. He was subsequently arrested and died in custody, becoming a martyr for the cause of national unity. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described Mookerjee as "a distinguished scholar, a great freedom fighter, and a visionary" who dreamed of 'Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat' (One India, Great India). He highlighted Mookerjee's role in shaping India's early industrial policies as the nation's first cabinet minister post-independence. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta honored Mookerjee at the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Park, noting how he "roared like a lion" and championed the slogan 'Ek Vidhan, Ek Samvidhan' (One Law, One Constitution). Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reflected on the historical significance of Mookerjee's sacrifice, noting that it took 72 years for his vision to be realized. He emphasized that the Modi government's decision to abrogate Article 370 on August 5, 2019, was a fitting tribute to Mookerjee's enduring legacy and his belief in a truly unified India. The minister stated that Mookerjee's fundamental principle - that a country cannot have two separate legal systems and remain truly united - continues to guide the BJP's ideology and India's path toward complete integration.

PM Modi, BJP leaders pay tributes to Syama Prasad Mookerjee on death anniversary
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (June 23, 2025) paid tributes to Bharatiya Jana Sangh's founding president Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his death anniversary, saying his invaluable contribution in nation-building will always be remembered with reverence. Mr. Modi said Mookerjee displayed incomparable courage and strength to maintain the country's integrity. A former Hindu Mahasabha leader who was included in the first Cabinet headed by Jawaharlal Nehru, Mookerjee quit the government in 1950 and reached out to the RSS to launch a party dedicated to the cause of nationalism and fighting policies of the Congress. He founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the precursor to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in 1951. Born in 1901 in Calcutta, now Kolkata, Mookerjee was a well-known academician who made a mark as a politician in Bengal in the undivided India. An early champion of repealing Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, he joined hands with the RSS to launch Jana Sangh in 1951 and is counted, along with Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, as one of the ideological beacon for the BJP. An MP, he died in custody in Jammu and Kashmir in 1953 after he was arrested for entering the State without permit, an official requirement he was fiercely opposed to and considered an impediment to the region's full integration with the country. Distinguished scholar, a great freedom fighter: Yogi Adityanath Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath too paid tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his death anniversary on June 23, describing the late leader as a 'distinguished scholar, a great freedom fighter, and a visionary.'Mookerjee founded Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the ideological parent organisation of the BJP. Addressing a gathering in Lucknow, Adityanath said, 'Today marks the sacred death anniversary of the great son of Mother India, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the founding president of the Bharatiya Janata Sangh. On this very day, in 1953, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee sacrificed his life for the cause of a united India. Dr. Mookerjee was a distinguished scholar, a great freedom fighter, and a visionary who dreamt of a 'Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat'.'Adityanath highlighted Mookerjee's significant role in shaping India's early industrial policies as the country's first cabinet minister in post-independence India He roared like a lion: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta On his death anniversary, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday said that the Jana Sangh founder roared like a lion and gave the slogan of 'Ek Vidhan, Ek Samvidhan'. Ms. Gupta on Monday paid tribute on the death anniversary of Jana Sangh founder Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee at the Syama Prasad Mookerjee park in New Delhi. Union Minister recalls Mookerjee's sacrifices Highlighting Dr Mukherjee's role in advocating for a unified India, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reflected on his 1953 protest against dual systems in the country, which led to Mukherjee's brave entry into Jammu and Kashmir. 'For the BJP and the Jan Sangh, Syama Prasad Mukherjee was a visionary whose thoughts still guide the Bharatiya Janata Party and the country. Seventy-two years ago, in 1953, he raised an important issue while protesting that there cannot be two systems within one country. He believed that if India had two separate laws or systems, it could not truly be called united or independent. To prove his point, he risked his life and entered Jammu and Kashmir. That moment became a part of history,' Mr. Pradhan said. He further emphasised that it took 72 years to fulfil his sacrifice, with the historic abrogation of Article 370 by the government in 2019, a tribute to Mukherjee's enduring legacy 'If we compare both dates, it took almost 72 years to fulfil Syama Prasad Mukherjee's sacrifice. It was the privilege of the Prime Minister to make his dream come true. On August 5th, 2019, the government made a historic decision to abrogate Article 370, honouring Dr Mukherjee's vision,'Mr. Pradhan said.
