One Piece: Oda confirms the 5 most legendary pirates from the Old era
Now that One Piece has stepped into its Final Saga, creator Eiichiro Oda is finally starting to reveal the truth about those really, really bad pirates from way back—the ones who crisscrossed and pillaged the seas long before our fearless protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, had even hatched. As great as those mythical figures were in shaping the world and laying the groundwork for all the drama taking place today, most notably in the unraveling Elbaf arc that is unfolding before our eyes right now, For viewers who may be unfamiliar with One Piece, these aren't just tough bad guys—they're the huge, mythical, legendary giants of the pirate age. Whether you've been watching anime for decades, or you're just ready to figure out why everyone seems to be raving about this greatest-of-all-time series, here's your guide to the illustrious top-five most infamous scallywags of the Golden Age, as recently corroborated by Oda himself. 1. Gol D. Roger – The true pirate king A t the top of the list is Gol D. Roger, the man that fully conquered the Grand Line and was the very first Pirate King. Like Gol D. Roger, he possessed the mythical treasure, One Piece, and ignited the Great Pirate Era with his dying declaration. In pure strength, he had no equal in his prime and even at the peak of his days on the ocean, he was crewmates with two of the strongest men you could ever imagine in Rayleigh and Gaban. Oh Joy Boy… I'm so jealous you got to be born in that era. – Gol D. Roger. Roger's influence can be felt even to this day, and no pirate in all of history has inspired so much romance, peril, and intrigue as he. 2. Whitebeard – The world's strongest man Edward Newgate, better known to most by his moniker of Whitebeard, was Roger's equal in battle, and was The Strongest Man in the World. He had previously sailed under Rocks D. Xebec before forming his own crew and then achieving ascendance as a Yonko (one of the four pirate emperors). The world feared Whitebeard's might and revered his crew. His passing on Marineford marked the true end of an era. His impact, mostly via his Tremor-Tremor Fruit ability that could literally cause islands to explode. 3. Rocks D. Xebec – The hidden monster Rocks D. Xebec was one of the coolest, most dangerous, most stylish tutorial stage crushingest, neatest, deadliest pirates to ever live. His vision didn't end at ruling the waves. His crews were later inspirations for legends on the sea like Kaido, Big Mom, and Whitebeard. So strong even, that it took Roger and Garp side by side to beat him at God Valley. In spite of the fact that he himself has largely disappeared into obscurity, Rocks was at one time Roger's greatest rival and arguably the most dangerous pirate who ever lived. 4. Silvers Rayleigh – The dark king and right hand of Roger Silvers Rayleigh was the first mate to Roger. Even in retirement though, his power is as shocking as it is real. Much like Zoro, he trained Luffy during the time skip and is one of the extremely few characters in all of One Piece that can go toe-to-toe with an Admiral and keep them at a standstill. As late as May of this year, series creator Eiichiro Oda confirmed that Rayleigh was one of the three strongest crew members of Roger's crew, only behind the Pirate King himself. 5. Scopper Gaban – Roger's left hand and a silent legend Though his name is less widely recognized than Rayleigh's, Scopper Gaban was just as much a top-notch member of Roger's crew. Alongside Rayleigh, the three were known as the Wings of the Pirate King — a title that perfectly depicts their overwhelming strength and loyalty. As misused as Gaban has been in the show up to this point, Oda all but solidified his status as a legend by the confirmation. Fans are betting on him taking up a key position in the next acts of the Final Saga, as we called for in 10 Cut Content Elements That Would Make The Final Saga Even Better. Bonus Mention: Joy Boy – The pirate who came before everyone Joy Boy Perhaps the most fabled figure mentioned by the great pirates of the past, Joy Boy is a possible candidate and alt. His personal story becomes linked very deeply to the larger mysteries of the Void Century and the One Piece treasure itself. Fast forward to today and as the story approaches its climax, fans are finally learning how Joy Boy's legacy relates to Luffy's own destiny. One Piece legends still shape the present One Piece is credited as one of the greatest character driven stories of all time. These five mythical pirates from the Golden Age are in a realm of their own. Whether it be Roger's ideology, Whitebeard's power or Rocks' insanity, all of them contributed significantly to the creation of the pirate world as we know it today. Readers will need to hold out until One Piece Chapter 1152, releasing on June 25, 2023 if the schedule stays as is, to find out. Even at this point, fans are super pumped to find out more about the history. One thing's for certain though, even in passing, these legends continue to be an influence on the Final Saga and the Straw Hats' future.

One Piece finally reveals who's stronger between Zoro and Sanji – Oda ends the debate in Elbaf arc
credit - toei animation Well, One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda has finally settled one of the series' most contentious arguments once and for all: Who is stronger, Zoro or Sanji? With the addition of new scenes from the Elbaf arc and introduction of key characters such as Scopper Gaban, the answer is now obvious and it isn't who's better, but rather they're equal. Zoro vs. Sanji: The rivalry that defined the straw hat crew Whether or not you're already an One Piece fan, you've definitely at least heard of Zoro and Sanji—two of the series' most powerful and popular characters. Zoro is the colossally cool swordsman who wants to be the world's greatest, and Sanji is the high-kicking foodie with a heart of gold. Both of them take the place of Luffy's top fighters and have been friendly rivals since their crews' earliest days. For years, fans have speculated and argued over who would win in a fight. Zoro typically gets to fight the strongest enemy's #2 and Sanji the #3 at the end of an arc. That difference doesn't tell the full story and now, the most recent arc has made it official, they're equals. Elbaf arc reveals: Zoro and Sanji put their lives on the line for Luffy During the ongoing Elbaf arc, it was Sanji and Zoro who endangered their lives to save Luffy. In the midst of that deadly standoff, Luffy found himself ensnared by one such 'bomb bubble', an explosive eddy proboscis that would have badly hurt or flat out killed our hero. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Without a moment's thought, Zoro jumped in the way, taking the damage himself to protect Luffy. This was the arc of Sanji's own sacrifice. X-Drake fought it though—unlike in an earlier battle, where he deliberately walked into a trap to save Luffy, fully aware that the trap would kill him. These moments weren't merely heroic—they were indicative of how far both men will go to protect their quarterback. As the final battle between the two started, fans witnessed how their loyalty and strength was reflected in each other's moves that proved Zoro and Sanji were more than just fighters. They are protectors, equals, and pillars of the Straw Hat crew. Oda Confirms it: Zoro and Sanji are equals, not rivals During the events of Chapter 1151, Oda first introduced us to Scopper Gaban, an important member of Pirate King Gol D. Roger's crew. Gaban is rumored to be on the same level as Rayleigh, who was Roger's right-hand man. Gaban goes so far as to lay claim to being the second strongest on the crew, implying he and Rayleigh were on the same level. This is significant because Gaban is mostly accepted by fans as a counterpart to Sanji, while Rayleigh has been compared to Zoro for years. What Oda is explicitly telling us here is that Zoro and Sanji are the modern day Gaban and Rayleigh—two strong fighters who are equal, both beside each other and above each other. Giant warrior parallels: Zoro and Sanji are like Dorry and Brogy The warrior giants Dorry and Brogy, who have been fighting for over 100 years without a winner, are one of the biggest returning throwbacks in the Elbaf arc. All the way back during the Little Garden arc, Zoro and Sanji were initially pitted against them, standing in for a rivalry that will never really come to a close with a definitive victor. We need to reference the Fisherman Island manga arc again, because Oda has now doubled down on that comparison between Zoro and Sanji being like Dorry and Brogy. Rivals in spirit, but equals in strength. Now that the Final Saga of One Piece is in full swing, each crew member's impact has become essential as the story escalates in stakes and intensity. Where they once operated largely as comic relief and functioned mostly in the periphery of the story, Zoro and Sanji have since become Luffy's right and left hands, ever on guard, literally in between him and danger at all times. In such a world, Imu, the Holy Knights and the World Government in general are stronger than ever. Now Oda is really driving it home — from a strength perspective and a story perspective, Zoro and Sanji are equally important to Luffy's journey. When does One Piece chapter 1151 release? One Piece Chapter 1151 officially releases on June 8, 2025. US and UK readers should be able to catch the chapter for free on Manga Plus on Saturday night or early Sunday, depending on your time zone. Oda's message is clear—Zoro and Sanji stand together Whether you've always cheered for Zoro's pure strength or Sanji's swift, kick-based elegance, the fact is officially set in stone. Oda doesn't want the fans pitting them against each other, treating them like rivals rather than comrades. Their recent displays during Elbaf, along with the strong similarities to legends such as Rayleigh and Gaban, confirm that Zoro and Sanji are indeed two irreplaceable warriors of the Straw Hat Pirates. So the next time somebody asks who's stronger, answer like this: 'They both are. Check out our list of the latest Hindi , English , Tamil , Telugu , Malayalam , and Kannada movies . One Piece's Elbaf mural reveals a hidden war between ancient races
The Elbaf Island mural shows a secret war from the Void Century—and it includes nearly every major race in One Piece. If you're not familiar with One Piece, it's a massive global anime phenomenon filled with pirates, fun and powers, and the mysteries of life. One of its largest lingering mysteries is the 'Void Century'— a lost 100 years of history that the world government has wiped from existence. With the recent Elbaf arc, a giant mural has finally surfaced to show what actually occurred! The mural, painted on the mythical Adam Tree in Elbaf (the land of giants), depicts a titanic clash between all the races of the world. Every race, every country together, shoulder-to-shoulder, fighting side-by-side in this united front against this one formidable and horrifying foe. Fans are convinced that this piece of artwork provides an insight into the wonderful war that took place during the incredibly obscure Void Century. Here's a complete rundown of all the races we know so far represented in the Elbaf mural, who they are, and why they're important. 1. Humans: The heart of the world Most Common Race | Best-Known Character: Monkey D. Luffy Humans, the real majority The humans of the One Piece world are divided among various kingdoms and islands. Often at a physical disadvantage to other races, humans still manage to take the reins and direct significant historical events. Similar to Luffy, the anime's protagonist. Most touchingly on the mural, humans are depicted sailing together with other races, including Wano warriors alongside and even what appears to be people from the Kingdom of Arabasta! 2. Giants: Elbaf's mighty warriors Massive in Size and Strength | Best-Known Characters: Dorry & Brogy Giants are towering warriors who mainly inhabit the island of Elbaf. Famed for their raw power and military prowess, they are able to determine the fate of entire wars. Notice how in the mural, a giant is clearly leading the charge in the middle, perhaps representing Elbaf's central role in this ancient battle. Their return to the narrative has sparked excitement toward uncovering the giants' true past. 3. Ancient giants: The lost titans Larger Than Even Giants | Best-Known Character: Oars Fabled Ancient Giants were an even more powerful version of today's giants. They are so big in fact they dwarf even the biggest monsters. One mural scene depicts an Ancient Giant preparing to hurl a spear towards alarmed foes, demonstrating how crucial their might was in this long lost conflict. Elbaf's prince Loki is said to bear their bloodline. 4. Mink tribe: Animal warriors of Zou Animal-Human Hybrids | Best-Known Characters: Inuarashi & Nekomamushi Along the way, they encounter Minks, humanoid animals who live on the back of the giant, centuries-old elephant, Zunesha. Along with the transformations you can perform under the full moon, which take the form of 'Sulong forms,' these periods are incredibly powerful and just look amazing. The mural depicts both standard Minks and a Sulong Mink storming the enemy. They battled alongside Wano's samurai and were once members of Pirate King Gold Roger's crew. 5. Dwarves: Tiny but tough fighters Small in Size, Big in Strength | Best-Known Character: Leo That's not to mention the Tontatta Dwarves, tiny folk of Dressrosa. Even at that massive size, they're able to be the fastest land animal and have the strength of being a megafauna. In the mural, they're pictured to the left of the mermaid princess, storming ahead with their spears drawn. As such, they're now members of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. 6. Mermaids: Guardians of the sea kings Ocean Dwellers | Best-Known Character: Princess Shirahoshi As you may know, mermaids inhabit the ocean, famed for their mesmerizing beauty and inexplicable magic. Only a single mermaid swims through the mural. Her upturned tail suggests she's a princess, able to summon Sea Kings to do her bidding. There's a good chance that power would win any war before it starts. The current princess, Shirahoshi, is this generation's Sea King summoner. 7. Lunarians: Winged flame-wielders Sky Warriors with Fire Powers | Best-Known Character: King Now on the brink of extinction, lunarians are a beautiful race with dark wings and the ability to conjure flames. Once a scourge and terrible, now they dwell in lore. A Lunarian depicted in the mural is clearly shown attacking from above, implying superiority in the skies. The only survivor so far today from the All Star liquidation is the last of the All Stars, King, former right-hand man to Kaido. 8. Birkans: Sky people from the moon One of Three Sky Races | Best-Known Character: Enel Birkans are a winged race from the moon that now inhabit Skypiea. Though physically weaker than Lunarians, they were responsible for crafting expansive, beautiful civilizations spanning continents. In the mural, a Birkan hovers over a herd of runaway humans, perhaps in pursuit of the mythical vessel Noah. After the climax of Skypiea, Enel, the 'god' of Shandia, departed from Earth completely and returned to the Moon. 9. Longarm tribe: Double-jointed warriors Extra Arm Joint for Better Combat | Best-Known Character: Scratchmen Apoo The Longarm Tribe longarms have two joints in their arms, granting them greater flexibility and distance in combat. In the mural, they're depicted alongside their cousins, the Longleg Tribe, rushing side-by-side into war. Apoo, one of the Supernovas, is easily the most recognizable Longarm in the narrative. 10. Longleg tribe: Powerful kickers Long Legs with Amazing Reach | Most Famous Member: Charlotte Smoothie The Longllegs have exceedingly long legs, which they use for vicious kicks. Their idyllic presence in the mural, side by side with Dragonborn and other human-like races, underscores their importance in the ancient war. Smoothie, the governor of the Totto Land territory in service of her mother, is yet another heavyweight fighter in the Big Mom Pirates, and their strongest named member. Why this Mural is so important This mural may be the greatest National Treasure-level clue so far about the lost history of the One Piece world. It uncovers the mystery that when all of the world's races used to be on equal footings, they fought together against a common foe—the possible ancestor of the World Government. It foreshadows how Luffy's current adventure will parallel that old fight, as he's bringing together diverse peoples, nations, and pirate alliances for a shared purpose. Is Luffy repeating history? From giants to mermaids, Lunarians to dwarves, just about every race depicted in the mural has some link to Luffy's crew or allies at this point. As our heroes dive deeper into the Elbaf arc, this ancient war may just serve as the blueprint for the final war yet to come. For longtime fans and, hopefully, new viewers, Elbaf's massive mural could hold the answer to finally discovering what the Void Century is all about and what Luffy needs to do to remake the world in his image.
