Panthers bring Stanley Cup to see Messi at Club World Cup match

The Stanley Cup has been making its rounds over the past week. After several days of partying at Elbo Room, poolside at Matthew Tkachuk's house, at E11EVEN, and at Sunday's championship parade, you'd think the historic trophy would be ready for a rest. Advertisement Not even close. On Monday night, the Stanley Cup was on the soccer pitch at Hard Rock Stadium. Fans packing the stadium were there to see Lionel Messi, arguably the world's biggest soccer star, but were treated to see the Stanley Cup, the world's most famous trophy. Panthers Captain Sasha Barkov was seen lifting the Cup above his head, flanked by teammates Dmitry Kulikov, Evan Rodrigues, Anton Lundell and Niko Mikkola, as well as team President Matthew Caldwell. Perhaps they brought the hometown Inter Miami club some good luck. Entering the game as large underdogs against Palmeiras, Inter Miami pulled off a huge 2-2 tie, securing a spot in the Club World Cup Round of 16. The Stanley Cup is already damaged as Panthers go full throttle with boozy celebration

The Panthers might be having a little too much fun with the Stanley Cup. The bowl of the trophy is cracked and the bottom is dented – a result of the team's rambunctious celebrations after winning the title with a 5-1 triumph over the Oilers in Game 6 Tuesday. Advertisement As is tradition for teams that win the Cup, the Panthers celebrated with the silver trophy Tuesday night and kept the party going from there, spending Wednesday morning at Fort Lauderdale beach bar Elbo Room. Not to worry, though, since the keepers of the Cup are taking the necessary steps to repair the trophy before the Panthers' parade on Sunday, a spokesperson for the Hockey Hall of Fame told ESPN. This isn't the first time the Cup has gotten banged up. The Panthers celebrate with the Stanley Cup at Elbo Room in Fort Lauderdale Wednesday. There have been plenty of other trophies damaged in celebration outside of hockey, of course, Alabama football shattered the Coaches' Trophy, worth $30,000, after winning the BCS national title in 2012, and Wisconsin football broke the Duke's Mayo Bowl trophy, which included a football-shaped piece of crystal, after quarterback Graham Mertz dropped it in the locker room in 2020.

Panthers parade becomes a family affair

Panthers fans come in all shapes and sizes. For 2-year-old Miles Merlucci, he has only known the team as winners. 'We only win championships, right baby?' Miles' father, 36-year-old Jarrett Merlucci said to his son sporting a 'Back to Back Champs' Panthers baseball cap, while free ice cream from the Family Zone at Las Olas Oceanside Park dribbled down Miles' cheek. While much of the footage you might see from the Florida Panthers' Championship Parade consists of rowdy, beer-guzzling fans in Elbo Room T-shirts and small red bikinis, young South Florida families also came out in droves to celebrate the Panthers' back-to-back Stanley Cup wins — many of them arriving well before the parade's official noon start to stake out a shady spot along Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard. 'We're here for the second year in a row, this time it's not raining, and we're so happy to be here,' Merlucci said, holding the hand of his older son, 4-year-old Blake, amid the chaos. 'We're creating memories with the family, and that's what it's all about.' The Victoria Park family came with three of Jarrett's childhood friends and their families, and all of the children now attend preschool together. They set up camp early by the Family Zone, and strollers lined the curb. To accommodate these diehard families, the Panthers franchise created an entire section of the parade experience specifically designed for kids and parents. At Las Olas Oceanside Park — just steps south of Las Olas Boulevard and the iconic Elbo Room — families found a shaded, activity-filled zone featuring Panthers swag giveaways, hockey arcade games, face painting, temporary tattoos, and free sweet treats to help beat the 90-plus degree heat. By mid-morning, the area buzzed with energy. Kids darted among game booths, waving miniature Panthers flags, and volunteers handed out popsicles and sunblock. To help keep families safe in the crowd of an estimated over 200,000, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department implemented additional security measures. Officers stationed along the boulevard handed out yellow and blue wristbands for parents to write their names and phone numbers on, then strap onto their children's wrists — a precaution in case they got separated during the festivities. By 11 a.m., an hour before the parade began, hundreds had already been distributed. And the early turnout made sense: fans began arriving well before sunrise Sunday morning. Some, like 10-year-old Hannah Witenstein and her younger brother Zach, made a full weekend out of it. The Boca Raton family drove down on Saturday and stayed in a nearby hotel overnight to be sure they wouldn't miss a moment. 'I can't wait to see them walk around with the big cup,' Hannah said, perched atop a barricade outside Elbo Room before the parade began. 'We got here at 7 a.m. this morning!' 6-year-old Zach added, proudly waving his Panthers flag as Chappell Roan's 'Pink Pony Club' — ironically adopted by Edmonton Oilers fans as their unofficial playoff victory song — blared from speakers behind them. Once the parade kicked off and double-decker buses passed by, one even holding the Stanley Cup itself, now in mint condition once again, kids like Hannah and Zach pressed up against the barricades and parents lifted toddlers onto their shoulders for a better view. 'I hope we get to do this again next year,' Zach said.

Panthers have been living up Cup celebration and they're ‘not toning it down'

The Florida Panthers certainly have been enjoying themselves the past few days after winning their second consecutive Stanley Cup. They have made multiple trips to the Elbo Room on Fort Lauderdale Beach, a stop at the Miami nightclub E11even, gone out to team dinners and taken a boat ride. Things have gotten chaotic at times, but after becoming just the seventh team in the expansion era of the NHL to win the Cup in consecutive years, yeah, they're taking the time to celebrate. 'We're not toning it down,' defenseman Aaron Ekblad said. 'We just won two Stanley Cups in a row; we deserve to have a good time. We have good people in that room, so anything…if people think we're crossing the line, there's no chance. We're just having a good time, it's pure excitement. There's obviously a respect factor, and, you know, personally, I try to toe that line, but, no, it's all fun, and you know, we deserve it, for sure.' Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov said the team is able to enjoy itself more this time around because they 'know the feeling already a little bit.' 'Don't get me wrong, it's still amazing,' Barkov said, 'but now everyone just knows how to sit back a little bit and enjoy it because last year was so hectic. It happened and it's your first time ever, and you've been dreaming about it for such a long time. I feel like this year, everyone gave permission to themselves to enjoy it. We've had a good time.' Who's been the party MVP at this point? 'I don't see how Barky doesn't get his jersey retired at E11even,' star winger Matthew Tkachuk, one of the rowdier players on the team, said with a smile. 'He was incredible. E-Rod [Evan Rodrigues] was on another level. Marchy [Brad Marchand] has been Marchy. I'd say Reino [Sam Reinhart] has been really good, too. It's been great for me. I'm just able to hide in the weeds this year, and I feel like I've been doing pretty good, as well. But there's been some guys that have put in quite a shift. It's been an impressive outing from the team.' Now, the partying has led to some dings and dents on the Stanley Cup. Has the team heard from the Hall of Fame about that? 'No. I think they've seen worse,' Barkov said. 'I think every week, they have to go and fix some part of it. But yeah, don't be stupid. Don't take it to the ocean, stuff like that. We should know the rules by now.' Tkachuk said the celebration will be a little more subdued on Saturday night before the team takes to Fort Lauderdale Beach on Sunday afternoon for its championship parade. 'I think you just ride the wave,' Reinhart said. 'When you put so much hard work into it, it makes it that much more fun going through it. And, you know, being around each other the last few days.'

The veteran forward brought a wave of cheers to the Elbo Room in Fort Lauderdale, turning a championship night into a community moment fans won't soon forget. Brad Marchand delivers Pizza during Panthers' Cup celebration at Elbo room Just hours after the Florida Panthers secured their 2025 Stanley Cup win, veteran forward Brad Marchand made his way to the Elbo Room—a well-known beachfront bar in Fort Lauderdale—carrying boxes of pizza for fans still celebrating the historic moment. Marchand was seen in casual gear—a t-shirt and baseball cap—as he delivered the pizza to a crowd of cheering fans. The scene, captured by a supporter and shared on social media, showed Marchand smiling and interacting with the crowd, adding to the excitement of an already unforgettable night. This postgame pizza delivery wasn't entirely unexpected. The Panthers have made it a tradition to celebrate their championship wins at the Elbo Room, following their home-ice victories. The bar has become a go-to spot for both fans and players after the final buzzer, turning into an extension of the team's locker room energy. The 2025 Stanley Cup Final concluded Tuesday night, with celebrations continuing into the early hours of Wednesday. Marchand's appearance at the Elbo Room quickly stood out, not only for its fan-friendly gesture but also for its possible significance. Marchand, who joined the Panthers for this playoff run, is set to become a free agent this summer. The team is facing salary cap limitations, which could impact the ability to re-sign players like Marchand, Sam Bennett, and Aaron Ekblad. While nothing has been confirmed, Marchand's act of appreciation may also mark his final moments as a Panther. The gesture resonated with fans and reflected the team's close connection to the South Florida community.
