Iconic Sacramento Diner Jim Denny's to Close Again
Chef N'Gina Guyton is closing the diner after she says she received an eviction notice from her landlord Jul 2, 2025, 10:54 PM UTC
The popular Jim Denny's in Sacramento is closing as of Wednesday, July 2, after owner N'Gina Guyton says she was served with an eviction notice, according to a post she shared on Instagram. She says in that July 1 social media post that the landlord had previously offered to sell the Jim Denny's property to her and they allegedly had a verbal agreement in place to do so; but Guyton says the landlord told her in April that he would sell both the restaurant and a building next door as a 'package deal.' She took the landlord to court over their sale agreement, but the court ruled in his favor, finding that the agreement was merely verbal, not written, according to Guyton. Gathering a group of investors to purchase the building herself, she says she discovered that the landlord had no intent to sell the Jim Denny's building to her, leading her to proclaim July 2 as the last day for the restaurant.
The resurrection of the popular business was a feel-good story in 2023. Jim Denny's closed in February 2020 after 85 years in business, and Guyton rebooted the space three years later, following the closure of her acclaimed restaurant South. 'I hate hearing about the possible future of Jim Denny's, it makes my hear sick, but we had a damn good time,' Guyton wrote in the caption. 'Sorry to see she might not make it another 91 years at that location. I'm sure the possible future apartment building will look super cute.'
A new bakery in North Beach is bringing the popular señorita bread to San Francisco. Elena's Bread at 347 Columbus Avenue serves a version of the buttery, sweet bread, Hoodline reports. Although dubbed 'Elena's Bread' at the bakery, the señorita bread has gained notoriety in the Bay Area thanks to local mini-chain Starbread, which pioneered the style in Vallejo.
A big new restaurant is coming to Serramonte Center: SFGATE reports that hot pot chain Haidilao is set to move in. As the news outlet reports, Haidilao is known for its 'tableside entertainment,' which includes a boy band (really), a viral TikTok dance called kemusan that is performed for guests when ordered, plus a playroom for kids completely with nanny, and free manicures and massages while waiting for a table — although SFGATE states the manicures and massages will not happen at U.S. locations due to 'permitting issues.'
