Steve Sarkisian Reveals Peyton and Eli Manning's Role in Nephew Arch's Recruitment

Steve Sarkisian Reveals Peyton and Eli Manning's Role in Nephew Arch's Recruitment originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Arch Manning comes from one of the most decorated football families. It was unanimously believed that his uncles, Peyton and Eli Manning could impact his college recruitment. Advertisement But Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian says that it was their inaction that helped him draw a conclusive decision. Appearing on the 3rd & Long podcast, the Longhorns head coach said, "I thought what was also interesting in the recruiting process- nowhere in that time did I get a call from Peyton, did I get a call from Eli. It wasn't about the uncles. It was always about their family and his grandpa, Archie who's a great influence on his life." Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian speaks with quarterback Arch Manning (16)© Maria Lysaker-Imagn Images Coach Sarkisian claimed that for his recruitment process, no matter where the athlete is from, it is integral to get to know their family. The Longhorns coach said, "We really try our best to get to know the family because I think the family is the best indicator of who the young man is gonna become in his time here." Advertisement After meeting Arch Manning's parents and siblings, Coach Sarkisian found them to be "awesome people." This showed the Texas recruitment staff that he was just a "normal, down-to-earth kid." This was a big doubt for them going into Arch's recruitment since he's a third-generation college quarterback. His grandfather, Archie Manning is one of the most influential quarterbacks in the game's history. Aside from the fact that two of his sons were Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks, he also established the Manning Passing Academy. Quarterbacks like Russell Wilson, Andrew Luck, and Philip Rivers attended MPA during their developmental years. Advertisement Arch Manning has also attended MPA in addition to many other privileges that he's had because of his upbringing. So, when coach Sarkisian figured out that despite his unique background, Arch is a grounded person, he knew he's recruiting the future starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. Peyton Manning Reveals Secret Behind Arch Manning's Swagger

Peyton Manning Reveals Secret Behind Arch Manning's Swagger originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Texas Longhorns HC Steve Sarkisian recently revealed how Arch Manning's uncles, Peyton and Eli Manning, never called him during the recruitment process. Advertisement It shows that the family was not trying to influence the Texas Longhorns' coach. But now that Arch is close to starting for the Longhorns, Peyton Manning is refusing to shy away from hyping up his 21-year-old nephew. The former Indianapolis Colts quarterback checked in to the Pat McAfee Show on Monday. His Colts teammate Pat McAfee asked him about the recent event at the Manning Passing Academy. The conversation turned to how Arch has a certain swagger to him that the world hasn't seen from a Manning. Peyton Manning agreed and said, "The moxie? I mean that was his dad. Cooper was a cocky wide receiver that was open every time in the huddle." Texas Longhorns QB Arch Manning with grandfather Archie ManningRaising Cane's The 2x Super Bowl champ added, "I think my sophomore year in high school, Cooper was a senior. I think I completed a 120 passes that year and I think 90 of them (were thrown) to my brother. And he would've liked all 120." Advertisement Cooper Manning, standing at 6-foot-4, was a standout receiver for the Isidore Newman School in New Orleans. He received All-State honors and set school records while playing with his younger brother Peyton at quarterback. Unfortunately, his career was cut short at the age of 18. Manning was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal, which could've gotten worse if he continued playing. So, despite being committed to the University of Mississippi, he gave up his football career to care after his well-being. Arch Manning has learned valuable lessons from his father's story. In January, he talked to ESPN's Marty Smith about Cooper's playing days. Advertisement The Longhorns QB said, "It reminds me to not take any day for granted. Enjoy the hot workouts in the summer, enjoy the bus rides to practice, enjoy the plane ride after the game just cause it can all get taken away so quickly." Manning's resilience will be put to the test as he begins his journey as a starter against Ohio State on 30 August 2025. LSU's Garrett Nussmeier Says he and Arch Manning Have a Great Relationship at Manning Passing Academy

LSU's Garrett Nussmeier Says he and Arch Manning Have a Great Relationship at Manning Passing Academy originally appeared on Athlon Sports. LSU football fans are pretty excited that quarterback Garrett Nussmeier will be coming back to Baton Rouge to compete for a national championship instead of declaring for the NFL draft. And there is no better place to continue honing his skills than at the Manning Passing Academy. Advertisement The Academy is hosted by Peyton, Eli, Archie and Cooper Manning. This year's camp is being held on the campus of Nicholls State University and has an attendance of approximately 1,450 young athletes and 120 high school football coaches. Nussmeier and Arch Manning were roommates who also served as camp counselors. This is Nussmeier's third time as a mentor at the Academy. After practice, Garrett spoke to the media about what being invited to the Academy has meant to him. He said, 'It's awesome to be out here, to get to spend time with the other quarterbacks across the country. This is my third year here, and it's a great experience. You get out here and get to compete with them, hang out and just talk through different things. A lot of us know each other. Quarterbacks are a very tight-knit group. We've all been to camps with each other since we were young and things like that, so it's all familiar faces and it's always a lot of fun to get to catch up and reminisce.' Nussmeier also talked about his relationship with Arch Manning. He said, 'It means a lot to me. Arch, he's a really good player. I want nothing but the best for him. He may say he looks up to me but there's definitely a part of me that looks up to him too. His ability, his swagger, and his mindset, it's really fun to watch. He's a really, really good player and I'm rooting for him this year. We have a great relationship…I'm very appreciative of him.' Nussmeier is gearing up for his fifth and last season in college football. After attending last year's Manning Academy, LSU started out strong with a 6-1 record but three consecutive SEC losses put them out of contention for the national title. Garrett is hoping to change that with this upcoming season. Advertisement LSU will have its first game of the 2025-26 season on August 30th at 6:30 pm CT when they take on Clemson. Peyton Manning says nephew Arch has 'swagger' from his father, athletic abilities that 'skipped a generation'

One of the most anticipated college football offseason programs is the Manning Passing Academy, which brings together some of the nation's top quarterbacks and others to compete, learn and prepare for the upcoming season. Of course, the camp had a Manning participating instead of teaching, as Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning garnered tons of attention from virtually everyone in-person and looking on at home. Arch will be leading the Longhorns this season after spending two years as Quinn Ewers' backup in Austin, and if he has the Heisman-level season some predict for him, perhaps he will make the leap to the NFL after his junior year. Despite not even being in the league yet, comparisons to his Super Bowl-champion uncles, Peyton and Eli Manning, have already begun. Peyton made an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," where he explained his excitement for his nephew this season. However, he knows Arch, his brother and Arch's father Cooper, and others have already prepared the Texas signal caller for what's to come. "You know Pat, Eli and I are his uncles," Peyton said to McAfee. "We try to be there as a resource for him, but Cooper has done a great job with Arch, and they've handled all the different things that have kind of come their way in the right way. I'm excited to watch Arch play. He's been very patient. I thought he threw the ball really well at the camp." It wasn't just Arch that turned heads at the Manning Passing Academy, though. "[Arch] and [LSU QB] Garrett Nussmeier, in kind of our three throwing exhibitions, really threw the ball well. All the quarterbacks threw it well. It's impressive. They make throws that I wouldn't even think about making. I mean, Arch made a throw the other day — I had to hit the cutoff man to get the ball to the actual receiver. Nussmeier, LaNorris [Sellers] from South Carolina, it's impressive all the way around." While there has been a spotlight on Arch since he chose the Longhorns out of high school, it's been rather dim because he's had to wait his turn behind Ewers, who stayed last season to help lead Texas to the College Football Playoff. But two years learning head coach Steve Sarkisian's offensive scheme is something the Indianapolis Colts legend believes did his nephew good. "But, look, he's been patient," Peyton explained. "It's been well-documented, he's been there two years. I'm such a believer in mastering the system that you're in. When you have new coordinators every single year in the NFL and college, that's just frustrating to me. I was lucky. … The fact that Sarkisian calls the plays and Arch has been there for two years already and is going to know the system, that's going to be a huge advantage for him. "I'm looking forward to seeing him get out on the field. He's worked real hard. I love seeing him go to that camp for his teammates. That's being a good teammate. That's being a good wingman. I'm excited to get down there and watch a few games in Austin." One of the main things football fans point out when comparing Arch to his NFL-star uncles is the fact that he can really hit the ground running, making defenders miss when he tucks and heads outside the pocket. As Peyton pointed out, Cooper was a wide receiver, so his wheels must come from his father. What's also moved on to the next generation is the "swagger" he thinks Cooper passed down to Arch. "The moxy, that was his dad," Peyton said. "Cooper was a cocky wide receiver that was open every time in the huddle. I think about sophomore year in high school, I was the quarterback, and Cooper was a senior. I think I completed 120 passes that year, and I think 90 of them to my brother. He would've liked all 120. He did not care about his teammates or friends. I think that little swagger comes from his dad, and that's good to see. "But Arch has to be his own person, and he can move. My dad's sort of speed, sort of skipped a generation, skipped me and Eli. Arch has that, which helps him. But I still think with all quarterbacks, we've gotta be able to throw from the pocket first, throw on time and not take a lot of hits. That's what we talked about with all of them." Arch will be tested right away as the Longhorns' starter, as Texas will travel to Ohio State to face the reigning national champions on Aug. 30. Jon Gruden Sends Strong Arch Manning Message at Manning Passing Academy

Jon Gruden Sends Strong Arch Manning Message at Manning Passing Academy originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Every summer for nearly 30 years, some of the best coaches and players from across all levels have gathered for the iconic Massing Passing Academy. Advertisement Led by Archie, Peyton, Eli, and Cooper Manning, the camp is designed to go over fundamentals for younger players in grades 8-12 at positions such as wide receiver, running back, tight end and of course, quarterback. One of the best aspects of the camp is that some of the top quarterbacks in college football attend the camp as counselors to help spread their knowledge. Among the more notable counselors in attendance is someone who has grown up around this camp, Texas quarterback Arch Manning. The biggest name in college football, despite having just two career starts, is the grandson of Archie and nephew of Peyton and Eli. With three-year starter Quinn Ewers off to the NFL, Manning has been tabbed as the guy in Austin. While expectations are sky high for him, seemingly everyone who encounters Manning expects him to do great. The latest example of this is former Super Bowl-winning head coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jon Gruden. Advertisement The former coach-turned-content creator took to social media to express his high expectations for Manning. "The future in Austin, Texas it's Arch Manning," Gruden wrote. "What an awesome kid with a bright future ahead of him, let's go ARCH!" This past season saw the youngest Manning throw for 939 yards and nine touchdowns, while also racking up 108 yards rushing with four touchdowns on the ground. Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Wachter-Imagn Images The Manning era will begin in Columbus, Ohio, as Texas will be taking on the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes, who ended the Longhorns' season in the College Football Playoff Semifinal. The game is set to take place on Aug. 30, and will air on FS1's Big Noon Kickoff.
