Israel will go it alone in Iran, if necessary: Ambassador
(NewsNation) — Israel's ambassador to the U.S. says his country remains committed to finishing what it started in Iran last week, even if President Trump does not allow the American military to help take out Iran's nuclear stronghold in Fordow, which remains intact. 'We are absolutely committed to finding a way to seeing this through so that Iran no longer poses an existential threat to the state of Israel,' Yechiel Leiter told 'Elizabeth Vargas Reports' on Wednesday. Late last week, Israel launched strikes against Iranian sites and top-level military leaders and scientists in a campaign, it said, to end Iran's nearly realized ambitions to acquire nuclear weapons. Iran responded with missiles, and the two sides have been trading attacks for six days. What did Trump know about Israel's strike on Iran before it happened? Trump distanced himself from Israel's initial strike but has not ruled out authorizing U.S. military assistance for its ally. Leiter appeared to hold out hope that the president would lend support and that others might side with Israel in the field. 'Obviously, there are a lot of Iranians who are very much in favor of what we're doing, and there's all sorts of collaborations going on, all sorts of possibilities,' he said, not elaborating. Iran has warned the U.S. from getting involved in the conflict. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Ozempic's potential to kill desire for alcohol focus of study
(NewsNation) — Could the most popular weight loss drug double as a treatment for alcoholism? People using Ozempic say they are losing their desire to drink. It's anecdotal evidence right now, but this would be a game-changer for those who are trying to break free from addiction. Drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy are used to treat Type 2 diabetes and obesity. The medicine mimics the behaviors of the natural hormone GLP-1, which controls appetite and regulates blood sugar. Lawsuit alleges Ozempic, Wegovy cause bowel obstruction, stomach paralysis An unintended consequence appears to be that people on the drugs are turning to the bottle less. They say their urge to drink has dramatically decreased. A new clinical trial will study people of normal weight who are dependent on alcohol, notes Pat Aussem with the Partnership to End Addiction. Over five months, participants will get either Ozempic or a placebo, she said. Dr. James Besante, chief medical officer at Sante Fe Recovery Center in New Mexico, agrees the study is exciting, but he cautions it's too early to tell whether the weight-loss drug will be effective for alcoholics. 'These treatments are still considered experimental for addiction,' he told 'Elizabeth Vargas Reports' on Thursday. 'And they're not covered by insurance when they're used for this purpose. And that's really important. It makes them inaccessible for many of the patients I see.' He said there are already proven medications in the marketplace that are covered by insurance. If Ozempic proves to be effective, Besante said, it would effectively become another tool in the medical toolbelt. 'This is a really complex disease that affects different people differently,' he said. 'Rarely is there a magic pill or one medication that's going to solve this person's issue.' A new Voice of the People survey among Jewish Americans found that 78% listed antisemitism as one of the top five challenges facing them today. Noa Tishby, the former special envoy to Israel for combating antisemitism, joins 'Elizabeth Vargas Reports' to discuss antisemitism and how it's causing fear for Jews around the world. 'There was an understanding that this has been settled after World War II. … But, as we see, antisemitism is the oldest form of hate and discrimination that's still being practiced today,' Tishby says. She says today it has shape-shifted into something new — antizionism. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
