Here come the WAGs... and HABs! Lionesses partners and fans flock to Switzerland ahead of Euro semi-final against Italy - with one star's boyfriend getting on the Wetherspoons pints before takeoff
The partners of England 's Lionesses have been spotted flying out to Switzerland ahead of their Euro 2025 semi-final against Italy on Tuesday night. That included one England star's other half taking the opportunity to indulge in a pre-take off pint at a JD Wetherspoon pub in Terminal 2 of Manchester Airport. It saw professional footballer Joe Bunney, who plays for non-league side Stalybridge Celtic post a picture of a Moretti lager before he flew out to support Manchester United forward Ella Toone. He will be preparing to watch the match with a host of the team's other partners, some of whom are already in Switzerland. One of the most notable inclusions on that list is Manchester City and Netherlands forward Vivianne Miedema, who is in a relationship with England star Beth Mead. The pair - who have been in a relationship with one another since 2022 - faced off in the group stages of the tournament as Sarina Wiegman 's Lionesses beat the Netherlands 4-0. Netherlands forward Vivianne Miedema has stayed in Switzerland to support her partner Beth Mead, with the pair previously playing together for Arsenal Despite Miedema's side failing to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament, she has opted to stay in Switzerland to support Mead. Meanwhile, Ashley Hudson, who is currently dating Lauren Hemp, posted a snap to her Instagram story on Monday of the Uetliberg mountain, which overlooks the city of Zurich. Hudson, 30, retired from professional footballer in 2024 having spent nine years at Liverpool before finishing her career with spells at Birmingham City and Sheffield United before stepping away from the sport. While their attendances have not been confirmed, ex-Sheffield United defender Jack O'Connell and professional cyclist Tao Geoghegan Hart could also be present. O'Connell is the sweetheart of another Man City star in Alex Greenwood, with the pair having met while attending sixth-form college in Bootle, Merseyside. Geoghegan Hart is dating another another Arsenal star in Lotte Wubben-Moy, who has spent her entire senior career with the Gunners. Elsewhere, England supporters have travelled in their thousands to urge the Lionesses onto what would be a third final appearance at a major tournament in a row should they beat Italy. Fans were seen congregating in Geneva ahead of the encounter, many of whom appeared to be in buoyant spirits prior to kick-off. England's march to the semi-finals of Euro 2025 caps a remarkable turnaround in their fortunes after they lost their opening match of the tournament to France. They are hopeful of seeing England progress to a third final appearance at a major tournament in a row Following that 2-1 defeat, England could have suffered the humble fate of exiting at the group stages had they lost to the Netherlands - only to respond in resounding fashion. Despite making it to the knockout stages, they looked to be heading out at the expense of Sweden after falling 2-0 behind after just 25 minutes. However, two goals in three minutes from Lucy Bronze and Michelle Agyemang helped take the game to extra-time. After that period remained goalless, a nerve-shredding penalty shootout ended with England progressing when Lucy Bronze converted their seventh penalty. Should they beat Italy, it would mark the third time in a row they have reached a final. having done so at Euro 2022 and the 2023 World Cup. While they were victorious over Germany to win their first-ever international trophy at the last Euros, the Lionesses suffered World Cup heartache a year later as they were beaten in the final by Spain.

‘Not many best friends can say they play for England together' – Toone hails Russo's impact for England at Euro 2025
Ella Toone is hitting her stride at the right time for England at Euro 2025, and she is doing it alongside her closest friend Alessia Russo. The Manchester United forward starred again as the Lionesses thrashed Wales 6-1, continuing her standout form in Switzerland. Even better, Toone got to share the moment with Russo, assisting her best friend's first goal of the tournament. 'Oh yeah, it's mint,' the 25-year-old said. 'Not many best friends can say that they play for England together and that they assist each other so it was nice for her to assist me and it was nice for me to repay the favour. 'She really deserves that – she's worked so hard for us, she's created a lot of chances for us and it was nice for her to finally get that goal and I was just praying that I wasn't offside for her. 'I'm really happy. I feel like I'm really coming into my form and really enjoying the football that we're playing. It's falling nicely for me at the minute and really enjoying it and hopefully I can keep up with the form that I'm in. 'I'm really enjoying playing and today was a nice 45 minutes for me to assist and score a goal. It's always nice to help the team and I wish I could have stayed on a bit longer.' England lost their opening match of the tournament 2-1 to France, but went on to thrash the Netherlands 4-0 and Wales 6-1 to secure qualification to the quarter-finals. They now face Sweden, a team looking to get their revenge on an England side that beat them 4-0 in the semi-final in 2022. 'Of course they [Sweden] are going to want to beat us but we're the same,' Toone added. 'We want to beat them, we want to beat every team that we play against and we know that it's going to be a tough game. 'They're having a really good tournament so far so we're really looking forward to it and we've just got to take the confidence and the performance that we've put into these last two games into the next one. '[The France game] was a good lesson. I think you always learn so much from the games that you don't win and we definitely did that. 'We had a lot of conversations, but the good thing is that we turned it into actions and we've really shown what English football is about. We work hard, we've got that fight and we've got that togetherness. And yeah, that's definitely what we've put into these last two games. Proper England.'
