Queensboro Dance Festival celebrates borough's culture and community

The diverse culture of Queens is on display at the Queensboro Dance Festival. A mechanic by day, Felix Perez sits at the sewing machine after work, turning traditional Mexican fabrics into dresses and skirts. The garments are costumes for Manhatitlan, a dance group made up of his family and friends. "When I see the ladies and my daughters dancing with these garments, I feel so happy," the Puebla native said. Focusing on regional Mexican folkloric styles, Manhatitlan brings generations together. "We don't get to go to Mexico as often as we would like to, and so with this, we bring a little piece of home to our home," daughter Jazmin Perez-Carvente said. "My parents helped us with it, and my sister, she was like the brains of the whole project." The sisters recruit new members through church, school and work. "It's a project, but it's also a community," daughter Karla Perez said. "Everybody's welcome," mother Rosalba Perez said. Manhatitlan is one of 21 groups in this year's Queensboro Dance Festival, a series of free shows ranging from Indian classical to Chinese contemporary, popping up at plazas and in parks across the borough all summer long. "We wanted to be a platform that represented the underrepresented dance cultures here," festival founder Karesia Batan said. "We are reflecting the cultures in every neighborhood that we're in as a point of connection but as well as a place for cultural exchange." Jazmin Perez-Carvente says the festival has helped Manhatitlan grow. "The Queensboro Dance Festival gives us exposure to whole other communities, and they find interest," she said. Sharing her culture through dance has brought her closer to her roots. "I feel more alive and proud," she said. The festival began June 7 and runs through Sept. 13. Tate McRae and The Kid LAROI's Relationship and Breakup Timeline

If you haven't heard the news: Tate McRae is taking over the music industry rn, and the only thing I care more about than getting tickets to her Miss Possessive Tour is her relationship with fellow musician The Kid LAROI. The two first sparked dating rumors in early 2024—but if you're wondering whether Tate and the Aussie-born rapper (real name Charlton Howard) are still an item (especially after seeing those handsy bodyguard boat pics...), you've come to the right place. Let's get into it, shall we? Editor's note: This timeline is in reverse chronological order, so the ~freshest~ deets are smack-dab at the top. Enjoy! Following weeks of speculation, LAROI took to his X account on July 25 to seemingly confirm the split. In response to a post claiming that his team was paying to have slanderous tweets about Tate posted across the platform, LAROI stated, 'I have NOTHING to do with this and I DO NOT co sign this behavior whatsoever. working to get these removed.' Along with the post, he shared a screenshot of a conversation with his team stating that he and Tate 'are on good terms' and encouraging them to have the posts removed. While on vacay in Saint-Tropez, Tate is photographed on a yacht with friends, where LAROI is nowhere in a mystery man (later ID'd as her bodyguard) looks veeeery cozy with her. Not long after, a tipster for DeuxMoi claims to spot LAROI at L.A. hotspot Barr Seco holding hands with a new woman, who they describe as 'short and blonde' with a 'definitely more edgy vibe.' Iiiinteresting. During an interview with Elle (which dropped in early June), LAROI calls his girlfriend 'the hardest working artist' he's ever met. Oh, and he also said of Tate: 'Every time she smiles, it makes me weak.' My heart! Tate and LAROI head to Paris to attend the French Open, and LAROI posts some cute pics from the trip to IG. The two hit up Coachella together, where they hang with the Biebers and look very ~in lurve.~ Tate and LAROI go red carpet official at the Vanity Fair Oscars party... ...and link up with Olivia Rodrigo and Louis Partridge in the process. During an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Tate opens up about what it was like to work with LAROI on her new album, So Close to What. She reveals that they've written two songs together and says, 'It felt really fresh. We've never sang in front of each other until August. I pulled him out for one of my shows. And it was so funny, we're sitting in soundcheck and neither of us wanted to start singing.' She adds that she 'wouldn't look at him' while they sang together because she wasn't used to their new dynamic as collaborators, explaining, 'It's like a mental thing where I just feel like he's never heard me sing, and I like to pretend that he doesn't know I'm a singer, but he does obviously know I'm a singer.' Tate also dishes that they were both nervous as they cut tracks in the studio. 'It was funny. It was wholesome. It was cute, but it was definitely nerve-wracking for both of us who are usually so in our element and so controlling in the rooms. We both were like, 'Okay, who's going to lead the room?'' she shares, adding that they 'try to not talk about work as much as possible.' Oh, and LAROI makes it v clear how proud he is of his GF with a sweet IG message, where he writes, ''I KNOW LOVE' out now with my bestest friend on her album SC2W!!!!! watched @tatemcrae give EVERYTHING to this album and you can really hear that. it's incredible. to say I'm proud is an understatement. LOVE YOU GO LISTEN!!!!!' (The post has since been deleted.) LAROI leaves a sweet comment on this stunning pic of Tate. It's Valentine's Day, and Tate shares a pic of several dozen roses on her Instagram Stories with a bunch of crying face and heart emojis. Speaking of 'I Know Love,' the pair shares a snippet of the track on TikTok with a cute lip-sync video. Tate releases the official track list for her forthcoming third studio album, So Close to What, and it includes a collab with her boyfriend called 'I Know Love.' LAROI drops pics from an epic group trip to Mustique, which includes Olivia Rodrigo and Louis Partridge, Iris Apatow and Sam Nivola, actor and dancer Findlay McConnell, and ofc Tate—though sadly, the post has since been deleted. That same day, Tate shares her own round-up of photos: The couple is spotted strolling around NYC looking cool as hell. Observe: Nothing to see here, just two young ppl in luv walking hand-in-hand around New York. Tate and LAROI attend the MTV VMAs together, and though she walks the red carpet alone, they pack on the PDA in the audience. Later, after a 'fit change, they hit up the after-party. LAROI takes to IG to share photos from a romantic getaway with Tate to Bora Bora, though they have since been deleted. The lovebirds enjoy a night out together in NYC's NoHo following Tate's sold-out show at Madison Square Garden. Oh, and did I mention that LAROI joined Tate on stage at MSG for a performance of 'Without You'? Tate shares a cute vid to her Instagram Stories in honor of LAROI's 21st birthday. For Tate's 21st, LAROI posts a pic of himself smooching the star along with the caption, 'You make me better! I love yoooouuu.' During a show in Dublin as part of his The First Time tour, LAROI sneakily refers to Tate as his 'girlfriend,' effectively hard-launching their 'ship. Fans spot Tate and LAROI enjoying dinner together at E Baldi in L.A., adding fuel to romance rumors. The duo casually hangs out once again with Biebers during Super Bowl weekend, as captured by this photo posted by Justin himself: Tate and LAROI hold hands at the 2024 NHL All-Star Game in Toronto, where the Daily Mail obtains pics of them going on what looks like a double-date with Justin and Hailey Bieber. LAROI and Tate are snapped by paparazzi while enjoying a dinner date at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica. A video makes the rounds on the internet, showing Tate and LAROI seemingly vacationing in Mexico together with a group of friends. Tate also posts a photo dump from the trip, where she *appears* to be wearing LAROI's shirt in a few of the pics. And that's all for now! Stay tuned for more deets on these cuties.

Lindsay Lohan ditched Hollywood glamour for 'normal life' in Dubai

Lindsay Lohan is opening up about why she left Hollywood for a new life in Dubai. Lohan, 39, spent the majority of her young career in the spotlight attempting to evade the paparazzi. Now, she's traded in the flashing lights for a "very normal life" away from the scrutiny of Los Angeles. "It's just far away from Hollywood. And I live a very normal life," Lohan said during an appearance on "LIVE with Kelly and Mark." "There's no worry of like, I can't go eat at this place because someone's going to take a picture of my son. It's just, I feel very safe." "It's not legal," she explained, of paparazzi taking photos. "You can't even take a picture of someone else if you're at a restaurant. You have to ask the person. Which is a big difference. The privacy is unique." Lohan previously revealed the lack of privacy in Los Angeles left her stressed out. "It's hard in L.A. Even taking my son to the park in L.A., I get stressed. I'm like, 'Are there cameras?' In New York, there's no worry; no one bothers us," the "Mean Girls" star told Elle magazine in May. Everyone has their own thing going on. There's a different kind of energy in New York. I'd rather have downtime in New York than I would in L.A." "But the nice thing about L.A. is, I like space [and you get that here]. But I'm thinking as I'm saying this, the funny thing is, in Dubai I get all of those things. I get the privacy, I get the peace, I get the space. I don't have to worry there. I feel safe." The "Parent Trap" star, who gained fame at a very young age, noted her experience growing up in the spotlight was tainted by the paparazzi. "I feel like some of [my work] got overshadowed by paparazzi and all that kind of stuff when I was younger, and that's kind of annoying," Lohan told Bustle in 2024. "I wish that part didn't happen." "I feel like that kind of took on a life of its own. So that's why I wanted to disappear. I was like, 'Unless there's no story here, they're not going to focus on just my work.'" Since her return to the big screen, Lohan, who stars alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in "Freakier Friday," said she's found that prioritizing herself makes a huge difference in her overall well-being. For Lohan, family is also a priority. "I mean, it's the most important thing: my husband, my son and me," she added. "It's all about balance and, as I said, routine. Especially when you have a kid, routine is the most important thing. And whatever their routine is, I've got to live by that."

Tom Brady takes a swipe at Gisele Bundchen over their divorce in letter about providing for his family

Tom Brady has seemingly taken a subtle dig at his supermodel ex-wife Gisele Bundchen in his latest newsletter about providing for his family. The NFL great, a seven-time Super Bowl winner, split from his wife of 13 years in October 2023, months after dramatically reversing his decision to retire from football. After their split was announced, Bundchen repeatedly alluded to her unhappiness at how much Brady focused on his sporting career at the cost of his family, with his unretirement said to be the tipping point. Now, in a newsletter Brady has recently started writing to his fans, the 47-year-old has said that he viewed his career as a central part of being a good father to his three children. 'I think part of being a great father is being a great example of doing what it takes to take care of your family,' Brady wrote. 'I chose to do it by playing football.' He continued: 'My dedication to the sport, the hours of practice, the moments when I was laser focused - those were times when I believe I was doing the best possible thing for my family and my kids, by prioritizing my profession and teaching, by example, what it takes to be really good at your job, what it takes to follow through on commitments, what it takes to be a great teammate; and showing them, also by example, that work is a big part of all of our lives.' Bundchen was said to have encouraged Brady to retire the first time around amid fears for his health in the game, as well as wanting them to spend more time together as a family. 'Obviously, I have my concerns - this is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present,' she told Elle in September 2022. 'I have definitely had those conversations with him over and over again. But ultimately, I feel that everybody has to make a decision that works for (them). He needs to follow his joy, too.' During his career, Brady had often spoken about how grateful he was for Bundchen's role keeping their family together. In October 2021, he said on his 'Let's Go' podcast: 'My wife has held down the house for a long time now, and I think there's things that she wants to accomplish.' Now, in his letter, Brady says: 'Remember, your children are watching everything. They see what you do in every aspect of your life and how you do it. 'Reading bedtime stories and helping them with homework are not the only ways to be a great parent. And neither is winning Super Bowls or MVPs. 'Being a great football player didn't make me a great dad, but how I became a great player certainly had an impact - from showing up day in and day out, to doing whatever it took to get better, be successful, be a role model, and to provide.' Bundchen and Brady had two kids - Benjamin and Vivian - together, while Brady has another son, Jack, from a previous relationship with Bridget Moynahan. A seven-time Super Bowl winner, Brady is widely accepted as the best to ever play in the NFL Bundchen also said in that September 2022 interview: 'I've done my part, which is be there for Tom. I moved to Boston, and I focused on creating a cocoon and a loving environment for my children to grow up in and to be there supporting him and his dreams. 'Seeing my children succeed and become the beautiful little humans that they are, seeing him succeed, and being fulfilled in his career - it makes me happy. At this point in my life, I feel like I've done a good job on that.' Brady would go on to play one more season in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, retiring in 2023 after they lost in the first round of the playoffs against the Dallas Cowboys. Speaking about their split in March 2023, Bundchen insisted she has no lingering animosity towards Brady, telling Vanity Fair: 'I have always cheered for him, and I would continue forever. 'If there's one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it's him, believe me. I want him to achieve and to conquer. I want all his dreams to come true. That's what I want, really, from the bottom of my heart.' But there have been some tough moments between the two in the years since their split - notably when Brady was repeatedly taunted on his Netflix Roast about Bundchen moving on with her jiu-jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente, who she has since had a baby with. Kevin Hart, who opened the roast, piled in on Brady and Bundchen's breakup, saying: 'You sometimes got to f*** your coach,' the actor said. 'You know who else f***ed their coach? Gisele. She f***ed that karate man.' According to People, Bundchen was left fuming at the jokes. 'As always, [Bundchen's] priority is to support her children who were affected by the irresponsible content that was broadcasted,' the insider said. Brady later admitted that he regretted the impact the show had on his kids. 'I loved when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun,' he said. 'I didn't like the way they affected my kids,' he told The Pivot. 'It was the bittersweet aspect of when you're doing something you think is one way and then you realize I wouldn't do that again because of the way it affected the people I care about the most in the world. 'It makes you in some ways a better parent going through it because sometimes you're naïve.'
