Man 'knocked down' in crash with Edinburgh tour bus on packed Royal Mile
A busy Edinburgh road has been closed off by police after a man was allegedly 'knocked down' by a tour bus. A man has allegedly been 'knocked down' in a crash with an Edinburgh tour bus on the packed Royal Mile. Emergency crews rushed to the Royal Mile at around 2pm today, Friday July 11, and are still in attendance with Lothian Buses services CS1 and 35 diverted as enquiries take place, reports Edinburgh Live. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Officers and emergency services are currently responding to a report of a collision between a bus and a male pedestrian which happened on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh at around 2pm on Friday, 11 July, 2025. "Officers remain at the scene.' Images of the incident show a tour bus stopped on the road, while a man can be seen laying beside it as a concerned crowd gathers around him. One worried local said: "I can see a man next to the bus. Police and ambulance have arrived at the location. Looks like a person has been knocked down by the city tours bus." The Scottish Ambulance Service has been approached for comment. Last month, in a separate incident, we reported that a man was arrested following a fatal crash between a car and a lorry that killed a teenage girl in Bathgate. Mercy crews raced to the scene on the Boghead Roundabout after the horror smash involving a Volkswagen Polo and an HGV on Monday, June 9, at around 11:50pm. Tragically a 17-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. She was later named locally as Ellie Douglas, an aspiring hairdresser. An 18-year-old female passenger was also taken to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. Police then confirmed on June 16 that they had arrested a 20-year-old man who has now been released pending further enquiries. The circumstances surrounding the incident have been referred to the police watchdog. Tributes poured in for Ellie who was described as a"beautiful soul". A GoFundMe was set up to help the family with funeral costs. It said: "Ellie was a beautiful soul who lit up every room with her humour and warmth. She was a wee gem at our quiz nights and always brough t joy to those around her. "She had just completed her Level 5 in hairdressing and was full of excitement to begin her career." HGV lorry crashes on busy Edinburgh road as glass strewn across pavement
Glass and debris was spread across the road after a HGV lorry crashed in Edinburgh. A HGV lorry has crashed on a busy Edinburgh road after it mounted the pavement. Today (Monday June 30), a lorry appeared to veer off the city's Maybury Road at around 10.30am in a horror crash. Images from the scene show the white lorry with a smashed windscreen and a dent in the driver side door as well as damage to the front bumper, reports Edinburgh Live. Glass and debris can also be seen strewn across the pavement following the incident which took place right next to a bus stop. A Lothian double decker bus can also be seen at the side of the road. It is understood emergency services have responded to the incident, but traffic is able to pass on either side. It is unknown if there are any reports of injuries. Officers have referred themselves to the police watchdog due to their prior involvement with the motor. 'She had just completed her Level 5 in hairdressing and was full of excitement to begin her career.' It's understood that the HGV driver was uninjured and has been arrested and charged in connection with alleged road traffic offences. Inspector Ben Legge, of Police Scotland said: 'Enquiries are continuing to understand the full circumstances of what happened. 'Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young girl who died." Head of Investigations for the cops' watchdog, Raymond Brown, said: 'PIRC has received a referral from Police Scotland in relation to a fatal road traffic incident which took place on Monday, 9 June in Bathgate. 'We extend our deepest condolences to the family and all of those who have been affected.'

The crash involved a HGV and a Volkswagen Polo at Boghead Roundabout in Bathgate just before midnight on Monday, June 9. Tragically following the incident 17-year-old Ellie Douglas lost her life. The 20-year-old and 18-year-old were rushed to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries and the road was taped off for most of the day. A 20-year-old man has since been arrested and released pending further enquiries into the crash. The circumstances surrounding the incident have been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner as officers continue to carry out inquiries to establish the full circumstances of the crash. A fundraiser has now been set up on behalf of Ellie's grieving family by a close friend.
