New Zealand woman injured after 6m fall at Kanching Waterfall

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 — A 52-year-old New Zealand woman was injured after falling from a height of about six metres at Kanching Waterfall in Rawang today. Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said an emergency call was received at 11.52am. 'A team from the Rawang Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene,' he said in a statement. 'The victim, a New Zealand national, had fallen from the waterfall from a height of approximately six metres.' He said initial checks found that the woman sustained injuries to her left leg, left arm and spine. The victim was conscious and taken to hospital for further treatment.

Thousands of people will be heading to Plymouth Hoe to celebrate Armed Forces event, packed full of family fun, begins at 10:00 until 17:15 BST on Saturday, as well as a free evening concert which starts at 17:45 until 22:30. Armed Forces Day, in association with Babcock, is an opportunity to show support for the men and women who make up the military community from currently serving troops to reservists, veterans, cadets and their families. Visit Plymouth said it will be a day "filled with fun" and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy and get involved with. It said: "There will be plenty of interactive displays, Veteran and military villages, military vehicles and equipment to explore, plus recruitment information should you feel inspired and want to find out about careers in the Armed Forces."There will also be an emergency services area with equipment from the fire service, police, RNLI, coastguard and Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team Plymouth. Throughout the day demonstrations, parades and live music will be taking place, including an air demonstration at 16:00. Road closures Hoe Road from the mound at the Citadel to the junction of Madeira Road, with suspension of parking from 07:00 to 22: Road from the junction of Lockyer Street to the junction of Sussex Street from 17:00 to 19:00 with suspension of parking 07:00 to 19: of parking at Osbourne Place entrance to the Hoe to the junction with The Esplanades from 07:00 to 19:00. Visit Plymouth said there are lots of car parks within walking distance, the closest being the Theatre Royal. It said Plymouth City Bus is also offering free bus travel to military personnel, veterans and cadets with identification on the day. A wide range of food and drink will be available throughout the day and organisers ask to use cash where possible as card payments may be limited due to "poor signal".

Det Ch Insp Clare Smith said: "We understand that there will be speculation in the community about what has happened and the cause of this explosion."We can confirm that a large number of butane gas cannisters were found in the property and these form part of our ongoing enquiries."We are working alongside specialist fire investigators to ensure a comprehensive investigation is carried out into this incident."Northern Gas Networks said it had disconnected the gas supply to 14 properties in the area at the request of emergency added: "We are working closely with the emergency services to support the incident, which is not suspected to be related to our network."CCTV footage from a nearby house captured the explosion before people could be seen running from their homes and shouting "get out of the house".Police confirmed the two critically hurt men, who had been in the same house, remained in hospital. The City of Barrie has put its national pride on display in a big way, with the unveiling of a massive Canadian flag, just in time for Canada Day. The flag, measuring 35 feet by 70 feet, flies atop a 150-foot-tall flagpole, and is located at the Barrie-Simcoe Emergency Services Campus on Fairview Road in the city's south end. Mayor Alex Nuttall attended Thursday's unveiling and highlighted the importance of the new installation. 'This flag isn't just a new landmark, it's a symbol of the pride we feel for our city, our province, and our country,' he said. Local developer Skyline provided the financial support for the project. 'We're honoured to have contributed to bringing this project to life,' noted Jason Castellan, Skyline co-founder and CEO.
