UAE travel: Emirates extends cancellation of flights to and from Tehran until July 5
Dubai's flagship carrier Emirates on Saturday said its flights to and from Tehran, Iran, will remain suspended till July 5, 2025. The decision comes as Iran's airspace remains closed for airlines despite the Israel-Iran ceasefire that followed a 12-day conflict between the two countries. UAE airlines have mostly resumed their operation as scheduled prior to the air war. Flightradar24 said: 'flight routes are returning to near-normal in the Middle East' after bombs and missiles". Data showed that airlines are also avoiding Syrian airspace due to geopolitical tension in the region. Emirates, the Dubai-based carrier and the world's largest international airline, said operations to Baghdad will recommence on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, and Basra on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Customers connecting through Dubai to Iraq will be accepted for travel at their point of origin. It added that customers connecting through Dubai with final destinations in Iran will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin until further notice. 'Customers impacted by flight cancellations must contact their travel agency for rebooking,' it said. 'The safety of our passengers, employees and operations will always be our top priority,' it said.

Weather forces Dubai-bound flight into India

PHOTO: REUTERS An Emirates Airline flight en route from Islamabad to Dubai temporarily entered Indian airspace early Thursday morning due to severe weather conditions, aviation sources confirmed on Friday. According to airport officials, flight EK-715, which departed from Islamabad around 4:30am, encountered heavy rainfall near Lahore, prompting the pilot to divert the aircraft slightly off its planned course for safety reasons. The plane veered over Sialkot and Narowal, inadvertently entering Indian airspace near Amritsar due to limited visibility and stormy weather.

'A drunk man sprayed me in the face with aftershave as I slept on an Emirates flight and this is all I've been offered as compensation'
A pensioner claims a drunk passenger sprayed him in the face with aftershave as slept on an Emirates flight. Anthony Harrop, 76, claims the drama unfolded as he flew to Thailand with his son. Mr Harrop flew out from Manchester Airport last December. He was on a subsequent flight from Dubai to Bangkok when he claims the incident unfolded. Emirates bosses said an investigation into Mr Harrop's claims was undertaken, but that 'no evidence of disruptive behaviour or excessive alcohol consumption' was uncovered. READ MORE: Friends left stunned at Manchester Airport after landing £24,000 in terminal READ MORE: Police issue immediate order covering huge parts of town after 'receiving intelligence' "The flight from Manchester to Dubai was fantastic," Mr Harrop, from Macclesfield, told the Manchester Evening News. "We got the flight to Bangkok and there was a guy on the plane. "This gentleman kept rabbiting on, I couldn't understand half of what he was going on about. He didn't allow me to sleep. He said 'nobody sleeps when he's on a plane'. "Eventually, I managed to drop off, only to be awakened and startled by stuff being sprayed in my face. It was fortunately aftershave, but it could have been anything. He sprayed it directly in my face." The passenger was moved to another seat, Mr Harrop - an ex-solider - said he was offered air miles as compensation, but turned the offer down. "That's basically the equivalent of £54, which is nothing," he added. A spokesperson for Emirates said: "Emirates takes the safety of its passengers and crew extremely seriously. "Following a thorough investigation into Mr Harrop's account on 27 December 2024, we found no evidence of disruptive behaviour or excessive alcohol consumption during the flight from the passenger in question. "Emirates has offered Mr Harrop Skywards Miles as a goodwill gesture, and we consider this matter closed."

Dubai summer break: Reach airport early as 30,000 travelers to depart on peak days
The rest of this week is going to be busy at Dubai's airport terminals with many schools shutting for summer break. Emirates Airlines has issued an advisory asking people to plan ahead for what they expect is going to see peak travel. 'More than 30,000 customers will depart DXB on June 26 and this level of departures will be at a similar level until June 30,' the airlines said in a statement. 'Customers should plan for extra traffic on the roads approaching the airport, busier carparks, more people at the airport going through immigration, and the time it may take to travel between Concourses and reach Boarding Gates.' According to the airline, it is advisable for travelers to reach the airport three hours before the flight and ensure that they pass through immigration 1.5 hours before departure taking into considering the crowds expected at the airport. They also advised their flyers to ensure that they reach their correct boarding gate at least an hour before departure to avoid any last-minute rush or panic. Many Dubai schools will shut for the break on Thursday, June 26. It was earlier announced that Friday, June 27 will be a public holiday for Islamic New Year, giving UAE residents a longer three-day weekend. This has resulted in several people choosing to travel for their summer break on Thursday. With recent closures of airspace in the region and flight disruptions, several airlines are advising their passengers to recheck their flight details and timings before leaving for the airport. Last week, several Air India flights were canceled or delayed following a deadly crash of the airline's plane in the Indian city of Ahmedabad that has killed over 270 people. The disruptions were caused by the country's regulatory body requiring additional safety checks. Dubai International (DXB) received 23.4 million passengers in the first quarter of 2025, an increase of 1.5 per cent compared to same period last year.
