UAE summer hiring: Expats wanted for Dubai government jobs with salaries up to Dh50,000

Despite slower private-sector hiring, Dubai's government continues recruiting skilled global talent and expats across sectors like healthcare, urban planning, and transport this summer. The UAE job market in 2025 is evolving amid economic shifts and global uncertainties, with hiring showing signs of both caution and opportunity. As reported by local news outlet, Gulf News, demand for skilled professionals remains strong in sectors like construction, banking, and technology, but overall hiring has slowed entering the second half of the year. This slowdown is largely due to new corporate tax pressures and unclear economic conditions, which have caused many companies to postpone major recruitment decisions until after Q4 2025, when tax filings clarify plans for 2026. AI and automation are also reshaping roles, prompting employers to take a more measured approach to hiring. Despite these challenges, sectors such as transport and logistics continue to offer promising openings. Amid this cautious environment, government jobs stand out as particularly attractive to expats, offering stability, benefits, and competitive pay. Dubai is actively recruiting experienced expatriates through its official portal, where a range of positions are available, some with salaries reaching up to Dh50,000 per month. This reflects a strategic shift: while the UAE has traditionally focused on Emirati talent in public service, the current recruitment drive highlights the value placed on global expertise to support Dubai's ambitions in urban planning, healthcare, digital infrastructure, aviation safety, and cultural preservation. Contrary to myths about summer hiring freezes, government recruitment often continues or even intensifies during this period. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo This approach offers expatriates not just jobs, but careers with purpose, stability, and attractive compensation. UAE top court upholds life terms for 24 convicted in mass trial

The supreme court in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has sentenced 24 people to life in prison after upholding their convictions for "terrorist" links, which had been dismissed following a mass trial criticised by human rights groups. "The Criminal Chamber of the Federal Supreme Court ruled [on Thursday] to partially overturn the judgment issued by the State Security Chamber at the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal and to reconvict 24 defendants," the official Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on Friday. The 24 were originally convicted in a mass trial of 84 people in July last year - most of whom, according to human rights groups, had already been imprisoned since a similar mass trial of 94 individuals in 2013. "Following yesterday's ruling... the total number of convicted individuals in this case has risen to 83 out of 84 referred to trial," WAM said. Sixty-seven of them have been sentenced to life imprisonment. "The court sentenced the defendants to life imprisonment for collaborating with the 'Terrorist Justice and Dignity Organisation', and providing funds to the Al-Islah," WAM added, referring to a group with ties to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood. New MEE newsletter: Jerusalem Dispatch Sign up to get the latest insights and analysis on Israel-Palestine, alongside Turkey Unpacked and other MEE newsletters Human Rights Watch (HRW) said the convictions were based on "a fundamentally unfair mass trial". 'The UAE's second-largest mass trial case has been justified under the guise of countering terrorism, but it's just part of the Emirati government's relentless efforts to prevent the re-emergence of any independent civil society in the country,' said Joey Shea, UAE researcher at HRW. 'Life in prison for nonviolent activism shows Abu Dhabi's utter contempt for both peaceful criticism and the rule of law.' 'UAE 94' The 2013 trial of the so-called "UAE 94", held at the peak of the Arab uprisings, was widely criticised by rights groups as grossly unfair. Lawyers, professors, activists and students who had petitioned the government for democratic reforms were tried for plotting to overthrow it. In March, the UAE rejected the appeals of 53 individuals who were convicted in the July 2024 trial. UAE 'retaliates' against jailed activist Ahmed Mansoor for exposing abuses Read More » The Abu Dhabi Federal Appeals Court overturned the convictions of the other 24 defendants, but the attorney general sought to reverse that decision, arguing it had been "legally flawed". Prominent activist Ahmed Mansoor and academic Nasser bin Ghaith were among those tried last July, HRW said. Bin Ghaith was sentenced to 10 years in 2017 over tweets criticising Egypt, a key ally of the Gulf state. Authorities said he had published 'photos and articles that are offensive to the state's symbols and values, its internal and foreign policies and its relations with an Arab state', understood to refer to Egypt. The UAE prohibits criticism of its rulers and any speech deemed likely to spark social unrest. Emirati courts have convicted dozens of citizens and Egyptian expats of forming clandestine cells, including al-Islah.

Viral Dubai Chocolate Pulled From Shelves Over Undeclared Allergens

A viral Dubai chocolate has been urgently recalled in Australia for failing to declare several allergens on its packaging properly. The product, labelled Choco Bliss, went viral on TikTok earlier this year for its sweet kadayif and pistachio filling. According to the Food Standards website, the chocolate may contain undeclared traces of pistachio, milk, sesame seeds, and wheat. These ingredients could pose serious risks to people with allergies. As a result, the product has been recalled from the regional market. 'Any consumers who have a pistachio, milk, sesame seed, or wheat allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed,' New York Post quoted the recall in a report on Friday. 'Consumers who have a pistachio, milk, sesame seed, or wheat allergy or intolerance should not consume this product,' the recall read. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Brisbane Food / Events & More (@brisbanefood) The recall applies to all Dubai chocolates with expiry dates up to and including January 2026. Shoppers will be able to return the recalled Dubai chocolate to the place of purchase for a full refund, according to The recall notice also warned that anyone concerned about their health should seek medical advice. The Dubai chocolate bar is a creamy, crunchy treat that has gone viral, particularly among TikTok users. It features crispy kadayif (shredded phyllo dough), rich pistachio cream, and smooth milk or dark chocolate. Inspired by Middle Eastern desserts, it blends textures and flavours and has been around since 2021. According to the brand's Instagram page, the viral Dubai chocolate bar is sold through the brand's own retail outlets in at least five locations across Queensland: Westfield North Lakes, Westfield Chermside, Westfield Mt Gravatt, Westfield Carindale, and Indooroopilly Shopping Centre. According to some reports, the Dubai chocolate bar is priced at around 49.50 AED (Emirati Dirhams), which is equivalent to over Rs 1,000.

UAE's Para Dressage Program Receives International Recognition

A groundbreaking initiative launched by the Amiri Stables in Abu Dhabi has received international recognition from the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), marking a major milestone in the UAE's efforts to empower athletes of determination. The 'Program for Enhancing the Performance of People of Determination in Horse Dressage,' launched earlier this year, is already making headlines with the inclusion of two Emirati athletes—Fatima Al Balushi and Wafaa Al Dahmani—who have successfully completed their official international classification with the FEI. This paves the way for their journey toward the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. Fatima (31), who was born with spina bifida, has been classified as Grade III, while Wafaa (also 31), who suffered paralysis from polio in her early childhood, is now classified as Grade II. Both women, from Ras Al Khaimah, joined the intensive training program in April and have since been undergoing weekly sessions at the Princely Stables. The program includes hands-on riding lessons, simulator sessions, physiotherapy, mental coaching, and nutrition guidance—all tailored to help athletes reach peak performance. As part of their journey, Fatima and Wafaa traveled to the UK in June to undergo their official classification at Wellington Riding. During their stay, they also participated in international competitions, including the CPEDI International Dressage Competition and the ICED Horse Show for People of Determination, where they trained and interacted with members of the multi-gold medal-winning British para-equestrian team. Dr. Russell McKechnie-Guire, the program's Technical Director and an expert in equine dynamics, praised the athletes' dedication. 'This was a significant moment. FEI classification is essential for international competition, and watching Fatima and Wafaa achieve this so early in the program was remarkable. They've shown real drive and professionalism.' The initiative remains open to other Emirati athletes with disabilities who wish to explore the world of dressage. The program aims not only to develop competitive riders but also to build confidence, resilience, and international sporting presence for the UAE. Laura Richardson, Performance Director at Amiri Stables, shared her pride in the team's progress: 'Fatima and Wafaa's determination is inspiring not just to the equestrian community, but to the nation. In just two months, we've reached our first major milestone on the road to Los Angeles 2028.' The Amiri Stables continues to invite aspiring athletes of determination, as well as sponsors and partners, to be part of this inspiring and historic journey toward the Paralympics.
