She revealed that people tried to shame her for it, and expressed that she was baffled by the societal concern over her situation. In a conversation with Zoom, Kalki talked about getting pregnant without marriage, and said, 'It's one of those things which I know isn't a big deal. But for a lot of people, it is. When I got pregnant and wasn't married, it was such a big deal! They were like, 'How did you get pregnant out of wedlock?' It's a term used in the 18th century! What are you, in a Shakespeare play? I don't understand it." Kalki said that she and Guy Hershberg had been living together for years and had a baby, which is a natural outcome of their intimate relationship. She pointed out the societal hypocrisy of pretending such situations don't happen despite the large population. 'Yeah, I was living with my partner. We were together, we'd been together for years. We had a baby, it's normal. That's what happens. We do sleep together, by the way (laughs). We are living together, so it happens. I feel we're living these lies in society sometimes, where we pretend these things don't happen. We have a huge population, right? So these things do happen," she added. In 2019, Kalki revealed she was expecting her first child with Guy Hershberg, and they welcomed Sappho in 2020. The couple has since married. Kalki was previously married to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. They tied the knot in 2011, and were married for four years before parting ways in 2015. On the work front, Kalki will next be seen in the English-language film Emma and Angel, which is a narrative about hope, survival, and friendship. Kalki recalls an Indian producer asking to be with him for work In the interview, Kalki recalled one such incident that occurred while she was still a student in London and had gone to Cannes as a promo girl for Nokia phones. 'One was in Cannes. I wasn't even an actor yet, just a student working as a promo girl selling Nokia phones. An Indian producer, who knew someone connected to my mother, invited me to his film screening. Later, he asked me out to dinner. When I inquired about work opportunities, he made it very clear that I had to 'be with him' for that to happen.' She also recounted a second disturbing experience in Mumbai after entering the film industry. During an audition for a major film, a producer told her he would like to 'get to know her better'. 'Other time it happened when I went for an audition here for a film, and the producer said, 'You want to do this film? That's great, but I need to get to know you because it's a big launch. So it was basically the same, like, 'Come out, let's go out for dinner,' So then again I was like sorry, I don't want to waste your time or mine," Kalki recalled. Kalki's latest projects Kalki Koechlin was last seen in the Tamil romantic action thriller Nesippaya, directed by Vishnuvardhan. It featured Akash Murali's debut alongside Aditi Shankar and others. She will next be seen in the English-language film Emma and Angel, marking another interesting addition to her diverse filmography.
