Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham a Celtic and Rangers transfer 'issue' as ex Premier League star delivers brutal verdict

The Welsh side are backed by Hollywood stars and are shopping in a similar market Big-spending Wrexham are a problem for the Old Firm, according to a former Premier League star. Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have invested millions since buying the Welsh side in February 2021. ‌ And after winning promotion to the Championship for next season, they are pushing the boat out to fulfil their Premier League dream. ‌ The Dragons have been linked with Jamie Vardy who has also been touted for a move to both Celtic and Rangers since leaving Leicester City. And former Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Jansen reckons that is an issue for the Glasgow giants - as he floated Ashley Young as a possible Parkhead target. Asked if Wrexham are a problem for Celtic and Rangers as they want to sign similar players, he told Genting Casino: 'Yes. I think there will be a host of teams that could attract the same players. Birmingham are spending a lot of money as well. 'I'd probably put Rangers and Celtic as attractive as a top half Championship side, I think, especially for English-based players but maybe not so for the Scottish-based players. 'Wrexham now are another team that can compete with Rangers Celtic certainly for the same types of players.' On Ashley Young he said: 'Celtic are a massive team, they've got Champions League football. He's been playing at Everton recently so Wrexham's just round the corner, so he'd probably choose Wrexham at 39-years-old. ‌ 'Or does he want another crack at Champions League football? It's a difficult one, but would he uproot and go all the way to Scotland when he's been based in Merseyside, based in and around the area and not far from Wrexham? 'So that might suit him better, but Celtic's a massive team with Champions League football, so who knows, it would definitely be a toss of the coin.' ‌ Jansen reckons Old Firm-linked Vardy would be a good signing for Wrexham as a replacement for hitman Paul Mullin. He said: 'Paul Mullin did it in League Two. He was in and out of League One, although he had injuries. 'Vardy scored nine in the Premier League last season, 10 altogether and he's still relatively fit and sharp. ‌ 'It's really tough, the Championship, game after game, so would he be used sparingly? I don't think Vardy would be. I'm sure he'd chip in with a lot of goals and good experience. It would be a good addition. It might cost a few quid, but it'd be a good addition.' UK punk band blasted for ‘Death to IDF' chant during Glastonbury festival set as police investigate

Another UK band has come under fire for its 'threatening' comments against Israel's ongoing war in Gaza — stirring up a frenzy at a music festival Saturday. English-based punk duo Bob Vylan whipped the crowd at England's annual Glastonbury Music Festival into a furor, and led the massive audience in gang chants of 'Free, free Palestine' and 'Death, death to the IDF' in referencing the Israeli Defense Forces. Police are said to be investigating the band's performance, Deadline reported. Advertisement 4 Bob Vylan performed Saturday at the Glastonbury Music Festival. WireImage Cops are going over video of the band's set to see if the group chants involved any criminality. 'We are aware of the comments made by acts on the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury Festival this afternoon,' reads a social media post from Avon and Somerset police. Advertisement 'Video evidence will be assessed by officers to determine whether any offences may have been committed that would require a criminal investigation,' the post added. 4 Cops are going over video of the band's set to see if the group chants involved any criminality. Irish outfit Kneecap got in trouble during a London show when singer Mo Chara shouted out Hamas and Hezbollah — 'up Hamas, up Hezbollah' — and allegedly raised the Hezbollah flag, leading to his arrest under the Terrorism Act. Advertisement Bobby Vylan, one half of Bob Vylan, similarly urged the crowd to chant along with him on Saturday. 4 It didn't take much to get the crowd chanting. AFP via Getty Images BBC, which broadcasts the three-day festival, announced it will not be replaying Bob Vylan's 'deeply offensive' set. A spokesperson for Lisa Nandy, England's Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, said she 'strongly' condemns the 'threatening comments made by Bob Vylan at Glastonbury.' Advertisement Nandy's office wants 'an urgent explanation' from the BBC regarding what sort of 'due diligence it carried out ahead of the Bob Vylan performance.' 4 Bob Vylan first started back in 2017. Bob Vylan/Facebook In a statement, the BBC acknowledged 'Some of the comments made during Bob Vylan's set were deeply offensive.' 'During this live stream on iPlayer, which reflected what was happening on stage, a warning was issued on screen about the very strong and discriminatory language,' the BBC added. Hamas killed 1,200 unsuspecting Israelis on Oct. 7, 2023, and took another 250 hostage in brutal fashion. Some 50 Israeli hostages remain captive in Gaza, fewer than half of them are believed to still be alive.

A new general for Chiefs: ‘Gerrard-like' signing arrives in SA

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly welcomed English-based creative midfielder Ethan Chislett to Naturena. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder was born in Durban but spent most of his life in England. His father, Donovan, had a career in the Premier Soccer League in the 70s and 80s. According to FARPost , Chislett landed at OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday and was greeted by Amakhosi staff. This week, it was reported that he had signed a two-year deal with the option to extend with the Soweto giants. Chislett is regarded as a talented player, capable of playing as a number 10, number 8, or as a wide midfielder, similar to former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. The 26-year-old spent the last two years with English club Port Vale where he made 68 appearances and scored 13 goals. His move to Chiefs comes at the right time where the club is seeking a creative player. His father, Donovan, told FARPost that his son was eyeing the potential of playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. 'Now with the 2026 [FIFA] World Cup coming up and the potential opportunities in South Africa, it seems like almost the perfect time,' he said. 'I'm looking for a fresh opportunity. I think my heart and mind are aligned, and they're set to South Africa, if possible,' Chislett said. Kaizer Chiefs will travel to the Netherlands next month to play several high-profile friendlies. Although the club has not announced any new players, five players have departed. New Portage Travel Club Allows Rural Students to Join School Trips

Students who have not previously been able to join international school trips now have the chance to travel abroad with the newly created Portage Travel Club. Portage Collegiate Institute teachers JoEllen Sevcenko and Laura McMaster have co-founded the new club, aimed at broadening students' horizons which will no longer be organized by the Portage la Prairie School Division. 'They're not approving international trips anymore,' said Sevcenko. 'Anything outside of Canada, we are going to take care of as a club now,' she said. There are still upcoming trips planned through the school division. PCI is offering two final international student trips: Amsterdam, London & Paris in 2026, and Japan in 2027. There's still space available for the Amsterdam trip, while Japan has now moved to a waitlist. Newly minted this month, the club's goal is to keep providing the opportunity for students to travel the globe—which will now include students from outside the division. 'Some of the smaller communities that haven't had a chance to travel will get to join us now,' said Sevcenko. Laura McMaster is a new French Immersion teacher at PCI, coming from Winnipeg about a year ago. She said she met Sevcenko during previous EF Tours trips, which was part of the reason she came to town. The club will still be working with EF Tours. 'We just believe too much in student travel and what it offers kids and I would say especially kids from a smaller town like Portage, to really get a chance to see the world and not to have just one perspective, multiple perspectives and different ways of living,' said McMaster. Trips are already planned and underway. McMaster will be in charge of French-language trips on odd-numbered years, while Sevcenko will be doing English-based travel on even-ended years. In 2027, students will have the chance to visit Paris, the Riveria and Rome, while in 2028, there is a 12-day Greece trip planned that includes a three-day cruise through the islands. The club will be holding their first information session at the Herman Prior Activity Centre on June 16 at 6:00 p.m. for all interested students and parents. They can RSVP here: The Plap Travel Club trips will still be fundraised, with the club doing Grocery Bucks. Sevcenko says the earlier a student registers for a trip, the more chance they have to raise funds or get a job, making it more affordable. 'If you enroll early enough, then the cost becomes much more manageable for most families. So there's been some sort of red tape stuff that slows things down. And that means the less time that people have to pay, the less inclusive travel is,' she said. 'So if you have two years, lots of kids that we work with can just get a job and pay it themselves with no trouble, plus the fundraising.' Trips are available for students in grades 9-12.
