Top five sociable dog breeds perfect for those buying a second pooch
If you're looking for a second dog, one of these friendly breeds might be suitable for you.
When choosing a dog, it's vital to pick a breed that suits your needs as the owner. Whether you're a first-time pet parent, you're looking for a dog that doesn't need too much exercise, or even if you're on a budget and need an affordable dog, different breeds have different characteristics and needs.
But those who are looking for a second pooch to add to their family may want to opt for a dog that can get on well with other pups. Luckily, Dog experts at Adaptil have shared a list of the most sociable dogs that are known to easily make furry friends with other canines.
They said on their website: "Like humans, dogs have their own individual character and their temperament traits are frequently related to their genes; researching the breed, talking to doggie experts (like vets or dog behaviourists) would be a good start when you are trying to determine what dog breeds are friendly with other dogs.
"For example, pack hounds often view other dogs as part of their team, and hunting/retrieving dogs are often calm, obedient and enjoy the company of other dogs."
Here are their top five dog breeds that get on well with other four-legged furry friends.
Top five dog breeds that are friendly with other dogs
1. Cocker Spaniel
These energetic and playful dogs get along exceptionally well with both with humans and other dogs.
They are happy and smart, and their friendly and gentle personalities are perfect for making furry friends for themselves.
2. Basset Hound
The experts explain that Basset Hounds are very relaxed pooches that get on well with other dogs and are very happy to 'go with the flow'.
These chilled out pooches also made our list of the calmest dog breeds, and they love to lounge around the house during the day.
3. Goldendoodle
A Goldendoodle, which is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, is another friendly breed mentioned by the pet experts.
They have a lovely nature and are very playful, and get along with both dogs and humans.
4. Golden Retriever
Golden Retrievers love to make friends with any person or pooch, and are known to be enthusiastic, cheerful and friendly.
Originally bred in Scotland as hunting dogs, they are not only friendly but are very intelligent.
5. English Foxhound
Bred as pack dogs, English Foxhounds prefer to be around other dogs rather than to be alone, so they're a perfect choice if you're looking to buy two dogs.
They can quickly get bored if they are on their own and need lots of exercise and playtime, so those who don't have a lot of time on their hands may not be equipped to look after two or more English Foxhounds.
