The Glasgow bar with food and live music that was named 'Scotland's best pub'
Out of all of Scotland's cities, it is hard to beat Glasgow when it comes to pubs. The country's biggest city is home to countless drinking venues to suit every style and taste. If you are looking for the best of the best, however, one Glasgow bar was recently named the number one in the country. As we previously reported, The Scallion took home the 'Best Pub' prize at the Entertainment and Hospitality Awards earlier this month. The Scallion is a gastropub located on Great Western Road in Glasgow's popular West End. It can be reached from the city centre in approximately 30 minutes on foot. The pub offers a wide variety of drinks, with a large range of beer and cider on draught. There is also a selection of whisky and other spirits on offer, as well as white, red, and rosé wines. Customers can also order a range of cocktails for £10, including the 'Drumstick' and the 'June-bug'. The former is made with vanilla and raspberry vodka and raspberry puree, while the latter includes rum, melon, coconut, and banana liqueur. In terms of things to eat, The Scallion states that it serves "the highest quality food" using "carefully sourced ingredients". It serves up a varied menu, with a large range of mains and sides available. Mains on offer include pub classics like fish and chips, steak pie, steak sandwich, and lasagne. Visitors can also enjoy pizza, wings, and more. There is also a Sunday Roast menu available, which is suitable for both traditional and vegan diets. Visitors can choose from sliced beef, Ayrshire ham, or Quorn chicken fillet and sausage, with sides such as rosemary, thyme and garlic roast potatoes, maple glazed carrots and parsnips, and white wine braised savoy cabbage. Meanwhile, The Scallion showcases live sports fixtures and live music. It also features a jukebox, as well as having a pool table. In addition to winning the 'Best Pub' award at the Entertainment and Hospitality Awards, The Scallion has earned positive feedback from visitors. The bar has an average rating of 4.2 out of five on Google based on 192 reviews. One recent customer posted: "Superb pub for food and drinks. Scotland's 'best takeaway' near Glasgow that specialises in baked potatoes
The eatery opened in March and has already earned a major following. No matter where you live in Scotland, you are unlikely to be too far from a tasty takeaway. Everyone has their own local favourite, whether it be a fish and chip shop, a Chinese, or an Indian. If you are looking to try something different, however, there are also plenty of takeaways that specialise in more unique dishes. One business that opened its doors in March and is dedicated to potatoes was recently named the top takeaway in Scotland. As we previously reported, Scotland's Entertainment and Hospitality Awards were held earlier this month. And the prize for Best Takeaway was awarded to Spudbuds in Ayr. Spudbuds is located on Alloway Street in the South Ayrshire town. It can be reached from Glasgow in approximately 50 minutes by car. As its name suggests, the business specialises in baked potatoes. Customers can choose from either a baked potato or chunky chips for £5. Visitors then select their butter of choice, with plain, garlic, and Cajun available. After this, they can choose from a selection of £1.50 regular fillings or £3 'super' fillings. Regular fillings include cheese, beans, tuna, bacon, and haggis. Meanwhile, among the super fillings available are chicken tikka curry, Thai chicken curry, BBQ pulled pork, and chilli con carne. In addition to its main menu, Spudbuds also offers a wide range of alternatives. The takeaway has vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free menus. Vegetarian fillings on offer include cheese, beans, Thai spicy beans, and coleslaw. Also available are vegetable curry, mac and cheese, plant-based chicken curry, and plant-based Cajun chicken mayo. Meanwhile, among the vegan options are vegan cheese, beans, Thai spicy beans, and coleslaw. The other vegetarian fillings such as vegetable curry, mac and cheese, plant-based chicken curry, and plant-based Cajun chicken mayo are also vegan-friendly. Spudbuds also offers a children's menu for customers under the age of 12. It consists of half a potato or half a portion of chips and one classic filling. In addition to taking home the Best Takeaway gong at the Entertainment and Hospitality Awards, Spudbuds has earned acclaim from customers. At the moment, it has an average rating of 4.8 out of five on Google based on 43 reviews. One satisfied visitor shared: "Been waiting patiently for Scotland to have its own viral baked potato shop and it did not disappoint! "My recommendation is to get 'The Dirty'—pulled pork and mac n cheese on a potato! The Belter (Haggis one) was good too!" A second posted: "Massive portion and restaurant quality Thai red curry! £12 for the spud with two cans of juice, I think its a good price for the quality of food I got. Will definitely be back! This is not your average baked potato." Another echoed: "Amazing food and service! It is 100 per cent worth the wait in the queue. "Worth a trip from afar too as great value! We will be back!" The Vengaboys and BGT star Vinnie McKee wowed guests with surprise performances at the awards ceremony in Glasgow Glasgow stole the spotlight at this year's Entertainment and Hospitality Awards, with venues across the city picking up top accolades in what has become one of Scotland's most prestigious celebrations of nightlife and dining. Among the standout winners were The Scallion in the city's West End, which was crowned Best Pub in Scotland, while the likes of BAaD, RED Sky Bar and Berlinkys also clinched key titles. It wasn't just a Glasgow affair though. Ayr's Spudbuds, Aberdeen's Codona's and The Craftsman Company, The Golf Inn in Ladybank and The Bawbee in Stirling also walked away with honours. The ceremony, held at Glasgow's DoubleTree by Hilton, brought in global pop icons The Vengaboys for a surprise live set, alongside a show-stopping performance from viral Britain's Got Talent finalist Vinnie McKee. But the biggest applause of the night was reserved for hospitality legend Donald MacLeod, who received the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his long-standing impact on Scotland's entertainment scene. Warren Paul, Director of the Entertainment and Hospitality Awards and the force behind several of the country's major award platforms, said the event was a vital chance to show appreciation for an industry under pressure. 'Congratulations to all who have won or come close especially and of course to Donald who has done and continues to do so much for hospitality and entertainment in Scotland,' he said. 'It is a very tough time for everyone right now but it does seem the hospitality industry are really feeling the heat – people simply don't have the money to go out as often as they did, or they're scared to spend the money they do have. 'We need to socialise, we need that break and to let off steam, escape all the day to day worries, and that's what our friends in hospitality provide. 'With many closures and difficulties, it's important to recognise those who go above and beyond to give the public that chance to zone out, relax and de-stress. 'That's what these awards are for, it's a nod and a thank you from the public to the place and people they appreciate, those who do it better than the rest or just offer something really special. 'So while we have big names performing here tonight, the real stars are the award winners from all over Scotland, venues and businesses who stand out every single day and night. 'Thank you to every winner, every highly recommended and every business who perhaps hasn't won tonight but is out there working hard every day to support us all, sadly there can be only one winner in each category and some are very close.' Winners were determined through a mix of public voting and nominations, alongside visits from the judging panel, making each award a reflection of customer satisfaction and excellence. Other winners included Berlinkys for Best Late Night Venue, The Vault at Angels for Best Events Venue, and RED Sky Bar at the Radisson for Best Hotel Bar. St Machar Bar took home Best Speciality Spirit Bar. Best Independent Bar awards went to The Craftsman Company in the North, Golf Inn Ladybank in the East, and The Smoking Goat Bar & Grill in the West. Warren added: 'We have winners, highly recommended and indeed entrants from every corner of the country, but it does appear Glasgow's hospitality sector has really delivered in the eyes of customers and voters this time around. 'Congratulations to everyone recognised by the public and therefore by our awards, these titles really do mean a lot, thank you everyone who voted, and really everyone who has helped support the industry in these difficult times.
