Awareness rally highlights importance of mediation centres in resolving disputes in Erode
An awareness rally highlighting the role of mediation centres in amicable dispute resolution was held in Erode on Saturday (July 19, 2025).
Principal District Judge S. Sameena and District Collector S. Kandasamy flagged off the rally at the Integrated Court Complex. It proceeded along Perundurai Road and concluded near the District Headquarters Hospital. Senior judges, advocates, conciliators, and court staffs joined the rally and distributed pamphlets to promote alternative dispute resolution.
Organisers said the District Mediation Centre is working to resolve pending cases in the Erode District Court efficiently and without delays. As part of the State-wide 90-day campaign 'Conciliation for the Nation,' the initiative targets out-of-court settlements for cases involving divorce, matrimonial disputes, domestic violence, accident compensation, cheque bounce, and other civil matters.
Video conferencing facilities have been made available through taluk and district legal services to handle cases remotely. The initiative aims to reduce the court's backlog and provide quick, cost-free, confidential, and non-appealable resolutions. Litigants may participate directly or through advocates, with the option to proceed through regular court channels if mediation fails.
Eligible cases from both district and taluk courts have been identified and referred for mediation.
Superintendent of Police A. Sujatha, I Additional District and Sessions Judge S. Ezhil, II Additional District and Sessions Judge V. Suresh, Lok Adalat Chairperson V.P. Sugandhi, along with other judges and lawyers, also participated in the rally.
