Lokayukta police register FIR against ex-Minister Eshwarappa and two others

The Shivamogga Lokayukta police registered a case against former Minister K.S. Eshwarappa, his son K.E. Kantesh, and his daughter-in-law R. Shalini, based on a complaint by Vinod B., an advocate in Shivamogga. The case was registered under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, on July 2. Mr. Vinod, the complainant, told The Hindu that he had been seeking an investigation into the alleged corruption against Mr. Eshwarappa since 2012. 'The matter went to the High Court a couple of times. Once an FIR was registered, and raids were carried out on the properties of Mr. Eshwarappa. However, it did not move further,' the complainant said. The Lokayukta police have now registered the case after the special court in Bengaluru heard the matter, he added. Mr. Vinod alleged that Mr. Eshwarappa and his family members amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income. He had submitted documents to support his claims.

Surjewala visits state to collect money: Ravi

Udupi/Shivamogga: MLC alleged that Randeep Singh Surjewala, Congress general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, visited the state not to listen to people's problems but to collect money. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Giving money is a Congress tradition. During the Mughal rule, there was a system of giving money. If the Congress high command is not paid, those in power lose their positions. To stay in power, money must be given, and he toured the state for that purpose. The people will teach Congress leaders a proper lesson," Ravi said on Monday. Regarding Eshwarappa joining BJP, Ravi said he would not comment on someone who was expelled from BJP. Ravi also said there needs to be research on the increasing heart attacks in the state. "Whether it is due to lifestyle, food habits or mental stress, scientific research is necessary. When a mother or infant dies, the health minister is not bothered. Politics should be set aside, and a team of experts should be formed to conduct research and provide a report," Ravi said. On the BJP state president's post, the MLC said the position is not vacant in the state. Ravi also stated that he is not aspiring for any position. Eshwarappa challenges Siddaramaiah on Constitution Former deputy chief minister KS Eshwarappa on Monday challenged CM Siddaramaiah over Constitution. "We should not deviate from the original preamble of the Constitution. Incorporating the terms secular and socialist was inappropriate," he said. Eshwarappa directed three queries to Siddaramaiah: "Who added the words 'secular' and 'socialist' to the Constitution, and when? Did Indira Gandhi add these words during the Emergency?" Eshwarappa said the RSS does not control BJP's decisions. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The expelled BJP leader said people from various castes asking him to join the saffron party. "I need to speak with many BJP leaders, and then I'll consider joining the party. I won't join any other party apart from the BJP. Other parties are making offers, saying 'bring your son, what do you need, what should we give your son,'" he claimed.

Expelled leader Eshwarappa hints at return to BJP

Ballari: Expelled BJP leader K S Eshwarappa on Sunday indicated a possible return to the party, saying 'the BJP was his life' and there was no question of him joining any other political outfit. He said he was considering meeting senior BJP leaders and that some within the party were also open to his return. The BJP had expelled Eshwarappa, a former state president and Deputy Chief Minister, for six years last year for violating party discipline and contesting the Lok Sabha polls as an independent from Shivamogga, rebelling against the party's official candidate. Eshwarappa had entered the fray, accusing state BJP chief B Y Vijayendra and his father, veteran leader B S Yediyurappa, of denying his son K E Kantesh a ticket from Haveri. Vijayendra's brother and sitting MP B Y Raghavendra was the BJP candidate from Shivamogga. 'I don't know the details. I only heard through TV reports that BJP workers from the Kuruba community (to which I belong) held a meeting and demanded my return. Some of them spoke kindly about me, but beyond that, I'm not aware of anything,' Eshwarappa said. Speaking to reporters, he said, 'Where will I go if I leave the BJP? My life is at this party. Let's see, I'm thinking of speaking to some senior leaders. I've also heard that some of them are considering my return. After discussions, things may take shape. But I will not leave the BJP for any other party.' Asked whether he had received invitations from other parties, Eshwarappa said some ministers in the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government had approached him, offering suitable positions for him and his son. He also claimed that Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav had invited him. 'Hindutva is like my breath. I joined the BJP because of Hindutva. Even if I die, I won't leave the BJP or Hindutva. So, there is no question of joining any other party,' he added.
