Local Development Minister discusses joint cooperation with Esri
Minister of Local Development Manal Awad met with Jack Dangermond, Founder and Chairman of Esri, on the sidelines of the Esri User Conference held in San Diego, California. During the talks, they discussed expanding cooperation in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Egypt's development programs. The meeting was attended by Hisham al-Helbawy, Assistant Minister for National Projects; Ambassador Hossam Al-Qawish, Assistant Minister for International Cooperation; and several representatives from Esri. This came during Awad's participation in the Esri User Conference in San Diego, where she received the 2025 SAG Award for the 'Atlas of Egyptian Cities' initiative, a data-driven platform for monitoring urban performance and development gaps. For her part, Awad said that GIS has become essential to local planning and policy decisions. She outlined the ministry's plans to upgrade the Atlas into a dynamic system that supports investment and decision-making using Esri's technology. She also proposed new areas for cooperation with Esri, including waste management, land monitoring, asset tracking, and spatial change detection across governorates. Meanwhile, Dangermond welcomed the progress made by the ministry and expressed readiness to support future initiatives through technical support, capacity building, and tailored solutions.

Ministry of Municipality receives special achievement in GIS Award from Esri
San Diego The Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Urban Planning Affairs Sector, received the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award, presented by the Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri), during the Esri User Conference which is being held in San Diego, California, until July 18. Director of the Survey Department at the Ministry of Municipality Ali Al Marzouqi received the award from the CEO of Esri Jack Dangermond, in the presence of a number of ministry officials during the conference's general session. The Ministry of Municipality explained that this award comes in recognition of the efforts of the Urban Planning Affairs Sector in adopting and developing the latest GIS technologies, especially Plan Map and geographic data layers (GIS Layers), in addition to utilizing them to serve the Ministry's plans and the community in the State of Qatar. It is worth noting that the SAG Award is given annually to government and private entities around the world, in recognition of their excellence in employing geographic information systems to serve and develop communities.

Municipality ministry takes part in 2025 Esri User Conference in USA
QNA Washington The Ministry of Municipality is participating in the 2025 Esri User Conference, organised by the Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri) in San Diego, California, USA. The conference continues until July 18, with a wide participation of international specialists and experts. The first day of the conference's accompanying exhibition saw a remarkable turnout at the Qatar Pavilion, which attracted approximately 1,500 visitors. They were introduced to the most prominent Qatari projects in the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies, most notably digital twin projects, smart application development, the adoption of artificial intelligence, aerial surveys, and 3D modelling. These advanced solutions were presented by the GIS Centre, the Urban Planning Department, and the Survey Department at the Ministry of Municipality, in addition to the Public Works Authority, the Communications Regulatory Authority, and Qatar Rail. They showcased the latest models and applications that support the development of smart cities and enhance the efficiency of services and infrastructure. The State of Qatar's pavilion was also visited by CEO of the Esri Jack Dangermond, along with a number of senior officials, experts, and those interested in GIS technologies from around the world. The Esri User Conference is the largest annual global event in this field, serving as a key platform for showcasing the latest developments in spatial data technologies and smart solutions, which contribute to supporting decision-making processes and developing services and projects across various sectors.
