13 July 2025 21:27 London (PA Media/dpa)A plane has been involved in a collision at London Southend Airport in a "serious incident," police said. In a statement, local police in the county of Essex, where Southend Airport is located, said they remain on the scene of a "serious incident" and were alerted shortly before 4 pm (1500 GMT) on Sunday to "reports of a collision involving one 12-metre plane." Plane crashes into field leaving one person injured after light aircraft plummeted

The casualty was left in the care of the ambulance service. One person has been injured after a light aircraft crashed into a field on Monday afternoon. Emergency services raced to Stebbing, Essex, just before 4pm on June 30. Firefighters, police officers and paramedics were all in attendance. ‌ Responders worked together to free one casualty and secure the scene. The injured person was transferred into the care of the ambulance service. ‌ Their condition is still unknown at this time. The fire service said an off-road vehicle was used to dampen down the ground around the plane due to the risk of it catching fire, the Mirror reports. An image shared by the fire service shows the aircraft lying tilted to one side, with its internal workings exposed at the front, its door lying open and parts discarded on the ground. "On arrival, crews worked with Police, Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance Service to help one casualty out of the aircraft and make the scene safe." Station Manager Scott Fretton said: "Crews assisted our emergency services colleagues with the casualty. They used an off road vehicle to dampen down the area around the aircraft as there was a risk it would set alight."

"After reviewing the scene and watching CCTV footage, we found that a cigarette had been discarded in the outdoor area about four hours earlier," said Mr Holliday."It had slowly smouldered before igniting nearby materials, eventually causing a much larger fire."He added stubbing out cigarettes properly was all the more important "with the warm weather and current wildfire warnings".The same crew had tackled a shed fire at a house in Cranesbill Close, Stanway, on Friday night. Firefighters were called to a blaze involving several caravans near a major road. It broke out near the Sadlers Farm roundabout, Bowers Gifford, Basildon, at about 20:26 GMT on Tuesday. A spokesperson for Essex Fire Service said it had received over 45 calls because of the "significant" amount of smoke and the proximity of the incident to the A13. The fire was put out by 22:20. An fire investigation will begin when it is safe to do so. There were no reported injuries. Firefighters will remain on scene to make sure the area is cool. Crews from Basildon, Billericay.
