Cricket round up: Billericay and Hadleigh beaten but Leigh move second

Beaten - Billericay suffered a three wicket defeat against Wanstead & Snaresbrook in the Premier Division (Image: Gavin Ellis/TGS Photo) THERE were defeats for both Billericay and Hadleigh & Thundersley in the Essex League Premier Division on Saturday. Eighth placed Billericay suffered a three wicket defeat at second placed Wanstead & Snaresbrook. Advertisement Billericay were put into bat after losing the toss and scored 262 all out. Opener Grant Roelofsen top scored with 84 while Rowan Elliott was dismissed for 67 before Wanstead reached the required total for the loss of seven wickets. Robert Rayner. Arjun Bhardwaj and Callum McDonald all took two wickets each but it was not enough to prevent defeat. Elsewhere, bottom of the table Hadleigh & Thundersley lost by five wickets at table-topping Colchester & East Essex. Hadleigh scored 157 with skipper Sam Handley leading the way with 36. Tom Rollinson added 33 but the total was not enough to trouble their hosts who are now 19 points clear at the top. Advertisement In Division One, Old Southendian & Southchurch slipped to fourth in the table after a six wicket defeat to league leaders Loughton. Old Southendian were put into bat and scored 178. Dan Cooke led the way with 42 before Loughton made it home for the loss of four wickets. In Division Two, Westcliff had reached 169/3 against Old Brentwoods before the match at Chalkwell Park was abandoned when a seven year old girl was tragically killed by a tree collapsing. In Division Three, Leigh on Sea moved second in the table after a three wicket win at Newham. Newham elected to bat first after winning the toss and scored 219. Advertisement Tim Knox (4/36) and Sevriano Cupido (3/54) were the pick of the bowlers before Leigh reached the required total for the loss of seven wickets. Nick Vanlint led the way with 71 while Cupido added 38 as Leigh moved just three points behind table-topping London Eagles. In Division Four, Benfleet moved top of the table with a 36 run win against Hawks. Benfleet batted first after losing the toss and scored 245/5. Luke Whitbourn hit an impressive 100 not out while opener Ben Prophet added 67. In reply, Hawks were bowled out for 209. Charlie Huntley did most damage with the ball for Benfleet, taking 6/42. Elsewhere, sixth placed Wickford drew at South Woodford. Wickford scored 327/5 after being put into bat with Zisan Abedin scoring 114 and Jatin Kukreja 108 not out. Woodford then ended on 288/7. Kukreja followed up his century by taking 6/58 with the ball.
