Family grieves 5-year-old boy who fell to death from apartment tower
The father of a boy who fell to his death from an Edmonton high-rise last week is asking for privacy as he and his family grieves.
The five-year-old fell from The Pinnacle on Wednesday, Edmonton police said on Saturday.
The father told CTV News Edmonton he and his family are getting support from relatives, friends and strangers. He and the family are accepting condolences via the non-profit Ethiopian Canadians Community Association in Edmonton.
Police said he fell from the roof of the tower located on 121 Street north of Jasper Avenue. A tenant told CTV News Edmonton on Monday the child fell from a balcony and that his family lives on the 21st floor of the 26-storey tower that was built in 1972.
Hazelview Properties, the property management firm that manages The Pinnacle, said in a statement that balconies on the high-rise are structurally sound and 'meet the safety requirements set out in the building code.'
