Kaizer Chiefs latest: Two new strikers?
It finally seems like the Betway Premiership big guns, Kaizer Chiefs, mean business ahead of the next season, with two centre forwards set to be unveiled. After parting ways with Ranga Chivaviro in previous weeks, former Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu striker Etiosa Ighodaro was spotted on the club's squad list of players going on tour in the Netherlands next month. According to the latest news, Kaizer Chiefs are closing in on a Guinea-Portuguese striker named Flavio Silva from Persebaya Surabaya in Indonesia. Update: Kaizer Chiefs new kits Flavio Silva in action for Portuguese club Mafra. Image: Bola According to FARPost, the 29-year-old Silva's deal with Surabaya ends in May 2026, but he has now agreed to join Kaizer Chiefs. The former Benifa and Sporting Lisbon attacker caught the eye after nine goals and two assists in the Indonesian Liga 1. PSL coach wants to talk to Orlando Pirates Should the deal be finalised, Silva will join Amakhosi as the second center forward arrival alongside the 24-year-old Etiosa Ighodaro. Kaizer Chiefs get disappointing pre-season news
Kaizer Chiefs head to the Netherlands for pre-season, but some details of the tour are far from ideal. Here's the schedule. Chiefs face five Dutch sides in July, spread over eight days. One of the matches, however, is played behind closed doors. 'Chiefs will still finish ninth with their new signings' 08 July, 19:00 vs. Vitesse Arnhem 11 July, 16:00 vs. FC Utrecht (behind closed doors) 12 July, 14:00 vs. NEC Nijmegen 15 July, 19:00 vs. PEC Zwolle 16 July, 19:00 vs. FC Twente The behind-closed-doors (no fans in the stadium) clash with Utrecht was initially going to be the first match of the tour. However, Chiefs face Vitesse first on 08 July. Meanwhile, much has been said about Asanele Velebayi's quality and ability to beat his marker on the inside or outside. However, the left-footer's finishing is still sketchy and needs a lot of work. Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro wasn't good enough for Sundowns and got shipped out to AmaZulu, so why is the 24-year-old now magically at the standard required by the Glamour Boys? Not all of the club's recruitment at the sharp end has been terrible, though; Glody Lilepo has looked dynamic and has good scoring instincts, but he'll have to prove it in his second season. Kaizer Chiefs close in on Sundowns forgotten man Etiosa Ighodaro
Kaizer Chiefs have reignited their pursuit of Etiosa Ighodaro and look set to secure the Mamelodi Sundowns striker ahead of their crucial pre-season preparations in the Netherlands. The Soweto giants previously tried to lure Ighodaro when he impressed during his loan spell at Chippa United. However, Mamelodi Sundowns blocked the deal and instead sent the Nigerian forward to SuperSport United. Now, Amakhosi are back in the race, and this time, they appear determined to get their man. Ighodaro has officially applied for a visa to travel to the Netherlands, fuelling speculation that a move to Kaizer Chiefs is imminent. The 2025/2026 season looms, and Amakhosi's intent to bolster their attacking line-up is clear. After scoring six goals on loan at AmaZulu FC last season, Ighodaro finds himself out of favour at Sundowns, potentially clearing the path for a permanent switch to Naturena. A trusted insider revealed that they have shifted towards Ighodaro because main target Fiston Mayele reportedly has no intention of moving to South Africa to ply his trade. 'Chiefs have made it clear that they need a striker before they start their pre-season training camp in the Netherlands and Ighodaro is that man, given the difficulties of getting Mayele.' The club's management continues to scout the market aggressively, but Ighodaro has emerged as the leading candidate to spearhead the attack under new leadership. With the Dutch tour fast approaching, Kaizer Chiefs look ready to strike, and this time, they won't let Ighodaro slip through their fingers. Will Ighodaro fit in at Kaizer Chiefs?
