‘Its Deserved Reputation:' Man Drives by European Body Shop. Then He Notices Something About 1 Bay in Particular

A car enthusiast is claiming that one European brand's vehicles are so reliable, an auto repair shop keeps the bay dedicated to servicing them closed. Preston ( @ ) begins his video recording the exterior of an automotive shop called European Motor Cars. Several foreign vehicle brands appear above the building's bays: Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Rover, Jaguar, Audi, and Volkswagen. All the bays are open or have vehicles inside. The Volvo bay is closed. Preston, who often posts enthusiastically about Volvos, suggests this indicates the brand is an esteemed example of vehicular dependability. 'When Volvo is so reliable, the mechanics keep the service bay door shut because it's rarely used,' he says in the post. Are Volvos Reliable? 'What Vehicle Is It?': Man Shows How AutoZone Workers React When You Ask For Custom Parts Opinions about Volvos vary. The independent research group Consumer Reports ranks it 15th in new car reliability. Consumer Reports ranks it significantly better in used car reliability. Volvo, which is owned by Zheijiang Geely Holding Group, places 7th in this category. It ranks Volvo 22nd overall. The group also deems maintenance and repair costs as rather high, giving Volvo 24th in this category. 'Volvo maintains its deserved reputation for safety innovation and quality fit and finish,' Consumer Reports writes. The same piece notes, however, that 'most of Volvo's new cars scored average or below-average in our reliability rankings.' People on the Volvo Subreddit have shared similar sentiments. One said that many of the problems with Volvos are related to its infotainment system. Many have complained about responsiveness issues with the vehicles' touchscreens. Navigation errors, connectivity delays, and audio system malfunctions have been cited, too. However, the same Redditor who pointed out the issues with its infotainment system and software argued that Volvos are strong when it comes to ''big stuff'—engines, gearbox, build quality.' Depends on the Model Even brands known for producing the most reliable vehicles will have off years or models. And brands that are a bit less dependable will similarly produce vehicles that stand the test of time. A Redditor opined , 'The 2006-2007 xc70 with the 2.5T and the 2008+ xc70 with the 3.2 N/A are the most reliable modern Volvo wagons… Both regularly go over 250-300k. 3.2 has less major interval repairs with a timing chain and less complicated PCV system.' HotCars reports that the 2010 S80 marries performance, luxury, and reliability in one package. The site says that the S80 has an average yearly maintenance cost of $658, and only five listed recalls. The 2016 S60 also received similarly high marks from the outlet as well. 'Nobody Drives a Volvo' A user who claims to be a Volvo mechanic said that it's better to buy a used one than a new model. That's because, they said, the newer ones aren't manufactured with the same commitment to quality. But they did attest to the durability of the brand's engines, save for its 3-cylinder engines. Others took the opportunity to make fun of the other brands. One joked, 'Land Rover stays open 25/8 366.' 'And the VW door stays open 24/7,' another said. One person had an alternative idea about why the Volvo repair bay was shuttered: There aren't that many of them. Another agreed, writing, 'That's because nobody drives a Volvo.'
