Workshop to train met forecasters on 3rd generation data
Muscat: An introductory workshop on the 'Third Generation Satellite Data' of the European Organization for Satellite Applications (EUMETSAT) was launched in Muscat on Sunday.
The workshop saw the participation of 35 specialists from 17 countries in the Middle East and North Africa, organized by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) represented by the Center of Excellence for Satellite Applications in Muscat, in cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization.
The workshop aims to train weather specialists in the region to read and analyze third-generation data and to introduce them to updates and operational applications of data, through lectures presented by experts from the Sultanate of Oman.
The workshop will continue until January 30.
This new generation of weather satellites will offer a significant enhancement of the current imager capabilities such as a real-time lightning imaging capability and an all-new infrared sounding capability providing early detection of the development of severe storms.
