Armenia, Azerbaijan to meet for peace talks in UAE
AFP | Baku Email : editor@ The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan will meet today in the United Arab Emirates for peace talks, two days after the US expressed hope for a swift deal. Baku and Yerevan fought two wars over the disputed Karabakh region, which Azerbaijan recaptured from Armenian forces in a lightning offensive in 2023, prompting the exodus of more than 100,000 ethnic Armenians. The arch foes agreed on the text of a comprehensive peace deal in March, but Baku has since outlined a host of demands -- including amendments to Armenia's constitution to drop its territorial claims for the Karabakh -- before signing the document. On Wednesday, the Armenian government said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will meet the following day in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, "within the framework of the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan." The Azerbaijani presidency issued an identical statement. The announcement came a day after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed hope for a swift peace deal between the Caucasus neighbours. Aliyev and Pashinyan last met on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Albania in May. At the time, French President Emmanuel Macron and European Council President Antonio Costa called for a prompt signature of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. King welcomes Volodymyr Zelensky to lunch at Windsor Castle
Charles welcomed the leader to an audience, followed by lunch, at the Berkshire royal residence on Monday. Mr Zelensky has travelled to the UK to meet Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and discuss his country's defences and new ways to increase pressure on Russia ahead of a Nato summit that starts on Tuesday. The Ukrainian president was dressed in a black blazer and black trousers, rather than his usual combat fatigues, for his trip to the castle. Charles and Mr Zelensky were pictured chatting as they made their way through the historic residence, and smiling as they shook hands in the Grand Corridor. The King and the Ukrainian leader have met numerous times before including in March when Charles invited him an audience at Sandringham in Norfolk, and last July at the European Political Community summit at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. Mr Zelensky's arrival in the UK follows reports that Russia fired 352 drones and 16 missiles at Ukraine overnight, killing at least 10 civilians including seven in Kyiv. Mr Zelensky said preliminary reports indicated Russia had used North Korean missiles to attack Kyiv and described those two countries, and Iran, as a 'coalition of murderers'. His visit to London comes the day before Nato leaders are set to meet in The Hague for a two-day summit, with increased defence spending top of the agenda. Mr Zelensky has been invited to the summit but will not take part in its main discussions, and it is still unclear whether he will attend at all.

Zelensky taunts Donald Trump with subtle insult during huge King Charles meeting
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky met with King Charles today, swapping his usual combat attire for a black blazer and trousers - a move likely to ruffle the feathers of Royal enthusiast Donald Trump. Earlier this year, a heated dispute erupted in the Oval Office between the US President and Zelensky over America's support for Ukraine. During that spat, an American journalist questioned Zelensky about his lack of formal attire, to which Trump responded with a grin: "You're all dressed up today." At the time, Zelensky was clad in black military-style fatigues. King Charles welcomed the Ukrainian leader for an audience and lunch at the Berkshire Royal residence on Monday. Mr Zelensky is in the UK to meet with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and discuss his country's defences and new strategies to ramp up pressure on Russia ahead of a Nato summit commencing on Tuesday. Photographs captured Charles and Mr Zelensky engaged in conversation as they navigated through the historic residence, sharing smiles as they shook hands in the Grand Corridor, reports the Express. The King and the Ukrainian leader have had several encounters in the past, including in March when Charles invited him for an audience at Sandringham in Norfolk, and last July at the European Political Community summit at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. Mr Zelensky's arrival in the UK comes amid reports that Russia launched 352 drones and 16 missiles at Ukraine overnight, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 civilians, including seven in Kyiv. Mr Zelensky has voiced alarming suspicions that Russia may have deployed North Korean missiles in recent strikes on Kyiv, labelling the alliance of those two countries plus Iran as a "coalition of murderers". He touched down in London mere hours before the Nato brass are expected to huddle up for a pivotal two-day summit in The Hague, with upping their defence funds being a priority on their checklist. The Ukrainian leader has snagged an invite to the key Nato gathering, but won't be chiming in on the primary talks. Whether he'll show his face there at all remains shrouded in uncertainty.
