‘He could come in and hurt us' – Rangers hero Ally McCoist opens up on the potential Celtic signing he fears most
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ALLY McCoist says he's a 'big fan' of a Celtic-linked player, calling him 'one to watch'. Talk of a huge move for the highly rated youngster has persisted for some time since his Premier League breakthrough. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Rangers hero Ally McCoist has discussed a Celtic-linked player he's a 'big fan' of Credit: Getty 2 He thinks Ireland and Brighton striker Evan Ferguson could 'hurt' Rangers Credit: Sportsfile Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, most recently on loan at West Ham, has previously been on trial with the Hoops but nothing ever came of it. But the 20-year-old's name has remained in the frame for a potential Parkhead loan deal, as well as attracting interest from English giants Arsenal. And Rangers hero Ally McCoist has glowed over the Irishman, speaking about him in Dublin as he took part in a 555-mile charity cycle. He said: 'I'm a fan. Oh aye. 'I want him to get fit. I really like Evan Ferguson and I really want him to get fit and stay fit." He has had a few mostly minor injuries keeping him in and out of the squad, as well as a bigger issue that saw him crocked from April last year to the beginning of the following season. McCoist continued: 'He can finish. Out of all the younger ones coming through, I thought Evan Ferguson was the one to watch. 'Obviously he's got one or two injuries going on that have held him back a bit, but if he keeps himself fit he will score goals anywhere. 'The unfortunate thing for my mob is, he could come in and hurt us. Definitely. "It wouldn't surprise me at all. I'm a big fan.' Ally McCoist confesses to 'horrendous' epic fail ahead of final day of Rangers legend's charity bike ride The ex-Gers player and manager's worry of a prolific derby goalscorer against his side comes as the Celts have struggled in the last few outings. The most recent was a 1-1 draw and the prior two ties ended in victory for the Ibrox side. However Celtic did win the League Cup final on penalties and last year's Scottish Cup final against their bitter rivals. The latter saw just one goal scored late on by Adam Idah, who would possibly fall out of the team if Evan Ferguson were to arrive. But McCoist believes the 24-year-old has done enough to earn praise despite some struggles. He said: 'He's done well. He has scored important goals. 'I think one thing you have got to do as an Old Firm centre forward is, sure, you have to get goals. 'But as an Old Firm centre-forward, you have got to score against Rangers. And if you are a centre-forward for Rangers you have got to score against Celtic. 'You have got to score important goals and Adam Idah has done that.'
