Dodgers adds former All-Star reliever to bullpen

The post Dodgers adds former All-Star reliever to bullpen appeared first on ClutchPoints. In late May, the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired relief pitcher Alexis Diaz from the Cincinnati Reds. Shortly thereafter, he was saddled with an injury to his left hamstring during his stint with Triple-A-Oklahoma City. Advertisement On Tuesday, Diaz received the call to move up to the Dodgers, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. He will arrive just in time for the Dodgers' scheduled game on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night. They will conclude the three-game series on Wednesday. Los Angeles is currently 56-36 and in first place in the National League West. In 2022, Diaz made his major-league debut with the Reds. Throughout three seasons, he had an 18-14 record, a 3.21 ERA, 227 strikeouts, and 75 saves. While in Oklahoma City, Diaz pitched in 20 games. He had a 1-3 record and an ERA of 5.89 along with 3 saves and 19 strikeouts. Advertisement His move up to Los Angeles comes when the Dodgers are still one of the best teams but have been hindered by injuries to their pitching staff. The relief Alexis Diaz brings to the Dodgers For all their talent on the mound, the Dodgers have had to work with what they got. Their bullpen has taken a pounding. Top reliever Evan Phillips is out after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Other notable relievers have been hurt, including Blake Treinen, Brusdar Graterol, Edgardo Henriquez, Kyle Hurt, and Michael Grove. As of now, Los Angeles' bullpen is ranked 24th out of 30 teams. Altogether, they have a 4.46 ERA with 28 saves. At this point, they have given up 395 hits, 54 home runs, and 132 RBIs. Advertisement When it comes to Diaz, he brings some much-needed depth and experience. In 2023, he had a breakout season with 37 saves and made the All-Star team. The hope is for Diaz to get back to form and help the Dodgers contend for a second straight World Series title. Trade Idea Moves Twins' Jhoan Duran to Dodgers

Trade Idea Moves Twins' Jhoan Duran to Dodgers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers' pitching injuries are not just limited to their starting rotation. They have affected the team's bullpen, too. Advertisement The Dodgers experienced their most recent setback after learning that reliever Evan Phillips will be out for the remainder of the season. Phillips, who had been on the team's injured list since early May after just seven appearances in 2025, will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. Acquiring former Cincinnati Reds closer Alexis Diaz in a trade and having him work on his mechanics in the Minor Leagues will help in this regard, but Diaz's 12.00 ERA in six relief outings with the Reds this season show he may not be the best fit for high-leverage situations. Enter the trade market. ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan project that the Dodgers are in prime position to add to their arsenal of arms, both in the rotation and in relief, ahead of the trade deadline. Minnesota Twins closer Jhoan Duran could be among the relievers available to the Dodgers (and other teams looking for bullpen help, such as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers), if the Twins decide to sell. McDaniel and Passan believe there is a 40% chance Duran will be on the move this season. Minnesota Twins pitcher Jhoan Duran (59) delivers a pitch against the New York Mets during the ninth inning at Target Krohn-Imagn Images "Duran is one of the best relievers in the sport, thanks to his nasty stuff headlined by a fastball that averages 100.2 mph and a splinker that sits at 97.5 mph," McDaniel and Passan wrote. "He has two more years of team control after this season, so he'd demand a big trade package. Advertisement Duran has spent the entirety of his major-league career with the Twins, making 210 appearances out of the club's bullpen since his rookie year in 2022. Since then, he has pitched to a 15-21 record, 2.43 ERA and 1.09 WHIP, while accumulating 68 saves and 278 strikeouts to 69 walks across 218.2 innings pitched. 2025 is turning out to be one of Duran's strongest MLB seasons. He is on track to have a career-best 1.51 ERA, in addition to logging a 4-2 record, 1.11 WHIP, 10 saves and 39 strikeouts in 34.1 innings pitched thus far. Freddie Freeman makes concerning injury admission

The post Freddie Freeman makes concerning injury admission appeared first on ClutchPoints. Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman is not broken but battered. Freeman continues to perform despite a recent ankle injury. So far, he's batting .368 with nine home runs and 37 RBIs. Advertisement However, Freeman's ankle troubles are getting the best of him, per Matthew Moreno Dodger Blue 1958. He admits to aggravating his ankle during Friday night's game against the New York Yankees. Freeman went 3 for 4 with an RBI, and one run scored. The Dodgers went on to win 8-5. The defending World Series champions are 35-22 and leading the National League West by two games. Nevertheless, the Dodgers are experiencing a series of struggles. Recently, the Dodgers gave up 30 runs in 30 innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Additionally, some key players, including Freeman, are battling injuries. On Saturday, shortstop Mookie Betts will undergo an X-ray for a stubbed toe as relief pitcher Evan Phillips will have season-ending Tommy John surgery. At least 14 Dodgers pitchers are out with injuries, including Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell, and Roki Sasaki. Advertisement Meanwhile, this isn't the first endurance through pain for the MVP of the 2024 World Series. Freddie Freeman's recent string of injuries Freeman first became hobbled when the Dodgers were making their run to the World Series. In September 2024, Freeman sprained his ankle after a misplaced step at first base. He went on to miss 15 games for that, as well as to support his son, 3-year-old Max, who was hospitalized battling Guillain-Barré syndrome, a sporadic neurological disorder. During the playoffs, Freeman played with a broken rib cartilage. Yet he still managed to bat .250 with 13 hits, four home runs, and 13 RBIs. Advertisement In the World Series, Freeman batted .300 with six hits, four home runs, and 12 RBIs. The Dodgers defeated the Yankees in six games, and Freeman won the MVP. Afterward, Freeman underwent surgery on his ankle during the off-season. He was briefly sidelined in early April.

BREAKING NEWS Injury-stricken Los Angeles Dodgers trade for pitcher Will Klein after Evan Phillips was ruled out for season

The Los Angeles Dodgers desperately need some help in the bullpen, with 15 pitchers currently on the injured list. A reinforcement arrived Monday, but it was a surprising name as the World Series holders acquired right-hander Will Klein in a trade with the Seattle Mariners, sending minor league left-hander Joe Jacques the other way. Klein, 25, has eight career major league appearances, all last season for the Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics when he had an 11.05 ERA in 7 1/3 innings of relief. He had a 7.17 ERA in 22 appearances at Triple-A Tacoma this season. Those numbers might not spark huge excitement among the fanbase of the World Series winners, especially with their bullpen besieged by injuries at present. Last Friday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced that reliever Evan Phillips was ruled out until deep into 2026 with an elbow issue that requires Tommy John surgery. 'It's surprising,' Roberts said, shortly before his team played the New York Yankees. 'More disappointed for Evan, but he just wasn't responding to the rest and then [trying] to ramp back up. 'Ultimately, that was kind of the advice and the route he decided to go.' The Dodgers added Klein and right-hander Ryan Loutos to the active roster in advance of Monday's series opener at home against the New York Mets, while right-hander Noah Davis was optioned to the minor leagues and right-hander Chris Stratton was designated for assignment. Loutos, 26, was recalled after he had one appearance with the Dodgers earlier this season, when he gave up two runs in one inning. He had three appearances with the St. Louis Cardinals last season and has a career 5.40 ERA in 3 1/3 innings. Davis, 28, had a 5.79 ERA in four relief appearances with the Dodgers this season, while Stratton, 34, had a 6.00 ERA in two relief appearances for Los Angeles. Jacques, 30, is 2-1 with a 5.46 ERA and one save in 25 career games (one start) with the Boston Red Sox (2023-24) and Arizona Diamondbacks (2024).

Luis Garcia joins long list of Dodgers pitchers on the injured list

Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Luis Garcia landed on the injured list Sunday, joining a slew of other pitchers who are hurt. The 38-year-old right-hander has a right adductor strain. The move is retroactive to Thursday. Garcia is 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 26 games for the Dodgers. He signed with the team in February. Starters Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki are hurt. Reliever Evan Phillips is set to have Tommy John surgery on Wednesday. Blake Treinen, Kirby Yates, Brusdar Graterol and Michael Grove are among the bullpen staff who are out. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Noah Davis was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he was 2-0 with a 5.75 ERA in 14 games. The 27-year-old is 0-1 with a 10.13 ERA in three appearances with the Dodgers.
