Car sent flying as it travels Missouri road buckled by heat
Evel Knievel, eat your heart out. The ongoing heat wave affecting much of the country turned one Missouri thoroughfare into a Hot Wheels-style ramp — sending one hapless motorist airborne Sunday. Bystander Albert Blackwell caught the sedan's sick jump on video, shared with Storyful, after filming a growing asphalt bulge in the town of Cape Girardeau, where temperatures topped 90 degrees. There was no sign the car sustained damage from the unexpected aerial excursion. Advertisement 6 A car goes airborne off heat-induced roadway damage in Missouri. Albert Blackwell via Storyful 6 The car stuck the landing and didn't sustain visible damage. Albert Blackwell via Storyful Advertisement The record-breaking temperatures, caused by a so-called 'heat dome,' got even hotter Tuesday, with major cities across the East Coast reaching triple-digit temperatures. In Washington DC, the National Park Service closed the Washington Monument to visitors Monday and Tuesday for fear its newly installed air conditioning system would not be able to keep up with the heat. Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Philadelphia and Raleigh, were all forecast to pass 100 on Tuesday, while Manhattan had a forecast high of 99 – the hottest June 24 temperature in more than 100 years. 'A lot of people haven't seen heat like this in quite a while,' said FOX Weather meteorologist Cody Braud. 'When we look at the daily records, a lot of the records for [June 23 and 24] were set over a hundred years ago, so we're going to see some of these century-old records either challenged or broken.' Another video circulating on social media shows a carload of miserable Amtrak passengers stuck in a sauna-on-rails Monday after their AC-less train stalled in a Baltimore tunnel. Brigitte Stelzer Braud said the heat dome – a giant bubble of stagnant, hot air – is steadily moving south and could roast those states later in the week before finally dissipating over the weekend. Advertisement In the meantime, affected communities will remain on high alert. The New Jersey town of Toms River evacuated dozens of homeless people from the streets to protect them from the deadly heat, News 12 reported, and towns throughout the region have cancelled outdoor events and sports games. 6 Clara Hernandez, 35, of Valencia, Spain, holds a thermometer in an NYC subway station. Michael Nagle 6 A hot dog keeps it cool in New York. Emmy Park for Authorities have also warned of possible rolling blackouts and urged residents to limit their power use during daylight hours. One 55-year-old Missouri woman was found dead in her home Tuesday after her power was shut off in the town of St. Ann, according to First Alert 4. In areas facing extreme heat, experts recommend taking a 45-minute break for every hour spent outdoors.

The Perfect Day in Las Vegas
Exactly no one goes to Las Vegas and sticks perfectly to their itinerary. It's just not that kind of place. What Vegas is, though, is a city where everyone goes to have a good time, where opponents quickly become friends, and where decisions are mostly guided by vibes (save for a few hard-to-get dinner rez). That being said, the perfect day in Las Vegas does exist—it's just more outline than hard-and-fast guide. Keep reading to plan yours, and then check out some more suggestions in the video above. Every Vegas vacation starts with getting to know the legendary Las Vegas Strip, a 4.225-mile stretch of dining, entertainment, hospitality, shopping, and nightlife. Sip a coffee en route to the Pinball Hall of Fame, where you can play hundreds of pinball machines and other vintage games—or simply marvel at the collection. Whether you'll be sitting down at the tables or just aim to dominate a game of Marco Polo in the pool, your competitive side will thrive here. Consider spending a day at AREA15, an immersive entertainment district right off the Strip than spans more than 200,000 square feet. The activities here are nearly endless: Challenge your friends to some Alternate Reality Dodgeball with AR glasses, or see who can outsmart the labyrinth of beams at Laser Maze. Las Vegas is as much about its food as its entertainment, so top your day off with a brag-worthy meal at one of the city's most coveted restaurants. Just three prime examples: Chinese essential The Noodle Den at SAHARA Las Vegas, elevated Italian staple Esther's Kitchen, and seafood-focused Michael Mina at the Bellagio. Whatever you choose, remember: Phone eats first. Finally, what's a trip to Vegas without a little thrill? We're not suggesting you try to jump over the fountains at Caesars Palace like Evel Knievel, but you can take your day to wild new heights on the 550-foot-tall High Roller Observation Wheel at The LINQ Hotel + Experience, or channel your inner daredevil by soaring over the Strip with SkyJump at The STRAT Hotel, Casino & Tower.

The Las Vegas Value Calculator
Fabulous Las Vegas is a choose-your-own-adventure kind of city with a little bit of everything. It's an epicenter of entertainment with artists in residency, comedy shows that deliver, and thrilling sporting events. And it also goes beyond sequins and spotlights with outdoor activities, fascinating museums, top-tier shopping, and so many restaurants helmed by celebrity chefs. But a trip to Vegas isn't defined by how much money you drop. The vibe of the city and its experiences can be enjoyed on numerous different spend levels—whether you're looking to conserve, indulge, or splurge. Here's how you can do Las Vegas in a way that works for you. StayBook a room at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, where you can soak up the sun at the Kassi Beach Club, a lively 21+ pool experience with comfy cabanas and daybeds, Italian bites, and local DJs. There's also the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino—known for the International Theater—or Flamingo Las Vegas, a vibrant option with a 1.5-acre pool complex for guests 21 and older. Eat Between explorations, fuel up with American comfort food like smoked brisket "trash can" nachos or steak frites served with a French fry trio and crispy onions at Guy Fieri's Flavortown Sports Kitchen located at Horseshoe Las Vegas. If you're in the mood for pizza, head to Evel Pie in Downtown Las Vegas, a retro pizzeria—inspired by the late daredevil Evel Knievel—where the Evel Slice Combo gives you a slice of cheese pizza and a beer for just $8. PlayTaking a photo at the iconic Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign and exploring the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens are two solid free activities. And the The Neon Museum is well worth its ticket price ($20 during the day and $30 at night)—you'll see some of the city's retired bright, dazzling lights, plus special exhibitions. StayOff-strip options carry an air of exclusivity. Consider M Resort Spa & Casino and Circa Resort & Casino, for example, both of which feature pool clubs and several dining options. Be among the first to experience MGM Grand Hotel and Casino's newly renovated rooms, an ode to the glamour of the disco era but with modern touches. EatTake dinner-and-a-show to a new level at Fork n' Film Las Vegas, located in AREA15, an immersive dining experience that brings popular films to life with food and drinks inspired by what appears on-screen. Top of the World serves steaks, seafood, and sweeping views of Las Vegas from inside the The STRAT Hotel, Casino & Tower; the restaurant's extraordinary dining room revolves 360 degrees every 80 minutes so every dinner party gets to experience the full view. Don't skip the warm butter cake with vanilla-bean ice cream and seasonal berries to close out your evening. Play You don't need deep pockets to see what makes Las Vegas the entertainment capital of the world, thanks to the Fremont Street Experience. This five-block destination is home to free nightly open-air performances across three stages and mind-blowing Viva Vision light shows on the largest LED canopy screen in the world. For laughs and drinks, check out the West Coast outpost of New York City's beloved Comedy Cellar. During any given show in the intimate space, you'll get to see five comedians each do a 15-to-20 minute set. StayLean into luxury and classic Vegas excitement at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas or enjoy the bragging rights of checking in to Nobu Hotel Las Vegas at Caesars Palace, aka the world's first Nobu hotel. The Conrad Las Vegas at Resorts World, which is the largest Conrad in the world, also offers lavish accommodations and a plethora of dining and entertainment options, like award-winning restaurant Stubborn Seed and the Ayu Dayclub and Zouk Nightclub. Eat Lunch at Zaytinya at Caesars Palace, a Mediterranean spot from world-renowned chef José Andrés is not to be missed—though it can be hard to choose from the city's high-end options. The inimitable Le Cirque, located in the Bellagio Las Vegas, delivers an unforgettable meal: From Ossetra caviar to black-truffle risotto to wagyu filet mignon, the tasting menu at this legendary restaurant is stacked with prestigious ingredients and delicacies. Or, for a contemporary take on the classic steakhouse, consider CUT By Wolfgang Puck at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, where the menu highlights Australian, American, and Japanese Wagyu as well as seafood delights (whole roasted Maine lobster, anyone?) and must-try sides like tempura onion rings served with saffron-smoked paprika aioli, and charred snap peas topped with Calabrian chili butter and breadcrumbs. Play Go window-shopping (or just regular shopping) at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, an upscale mall that's home to more than 160 specialty stores and fine restaurants. On the entertainment front, catch a live show at the Sphere, a one-of-a-kind venue with a massive LED screen that entirely encompasses its audience. Aged ten, I ruled the neighbourhood – or so it felt – perched high on that elongated seat, arms aloft as if hanging from those crazy handlebars, I pedalled with all the confidence of Evel Knievel about to hit the ramp. The Chopper wasn't just a bike – it was a rite of passage. How any of us survived childhood is anyone's guess. There was the time I gave my mate Dave a 'backie' on the rear basket (facing backwards, of course), and we hurtled down the steepest hill in town, narrowly avoiding a Ford Cortina and an angry dog. Or the afternoon I built a ramp from bricks and plywood in a bid to launch skyward like Evel zooming over ten London buses – and came crashing back to Earth with the skin scraped clean off my knees. Now, Raleigh has brought the legend back – and this time it's available in two mouth-watering retro shades: Fizzy Lemon and Space Blue. Just like the originals, these are the real deal. From the oversized banana seat and sissy bar to the bold U-shaped handlebars and working 3-speed shifter, they've recreated the MK2 Chopper almost exactly – with just a few modern safety tweaks. The new Raleigh Chopper stays true to its roots with a retro 3-speed shifter and classic 70s styling. | Raleigh They're so coveted, you can only order one of each colour. And at £999, this is no toy – it's a carefully crafted tribute to an icon. The Fizzy Lemon Chopper is especially eye-catching, with that sunshine yellow frame and burnt orange accents screaming 'summer of '75'. And I'm not the only one feeling the nostalgia. One proud owner wrote: 'Wow, what can I say. What a fantastic bike. I never believed I would own a brand new version based on an earlier design… It's like I have been transported back to the 70s. Congratulations Raleigh.' Another customer added: 'Better than expected – looks exactly like the one I had when I was 10 years old. Mine was stolen when I was 11… I won't lose this one!' For collectors, it's proving just as irresistible. One reviewer, who's had his original 1969 Chopper since new, said the new version is 'simply a fantastic icon' that now sits proudly alongside his vintage model. Another lifelong fan was just as impressed: 'The quality of the craftsmanship and the build is very neat – they're definitely worthy in any bicycle collection or as a bike to use.' The Fizzy Lemon Chopper brings back the original Raleigh branding, complete with retro decals and bold 70s colour. | Raleigh It's not just the styling that's winning people over. Owners are calling out the 'incredible engineering and craftsmanship' behind the new MK IV, praising it as a labour of love that captures everything that made the original a legend. These bikes aren't hanging around for long. So if, like me, you've got a Chopper-shaped hole in your soul, now's the time to fill it.
