Accused serial rapist had notebook listing more than 30 women, WA officials say
A man accused in one of Everett's 'most complex and disturbing cases' is heading to prison for decades, officials in the Washington city said. Christian Sayre, 39, received a 109-year sentence in connection with multiple rape and indecent liberties convictions spread out over four trials, the Everett Police Department said in a July 21 news release. Sayre's attorney, David Roberson, declined to comment in a July 23 email to McClatchy News. Police in Everett started looking into Sayre about four years ago, 'after DNA evidence linked him to a 2020 sexual assault case,' officials said. Investigators 'uncovered dozens of potential victims and a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior stretching back over two decades,' according to officials. As they investigated, they found 'a notebook listing over 30 women, along with hard drives containing child pornography,' officials said, adding that 'several of the women named in Sayre's notes came forward and reported assaults, some dating as far back as 2001.' In all, Sayre was found guilty of 16 felony charges, among them 'multiple counts of rape and indecent liberties involving both adult and minor victims,' officials said. He's also facing sexual assault charges in Oregon, according to officials. Sayre was the owner of a bar in Everett called Anchor Pub, KCPQ reported. In the news release, Everett officials praised the investigators, prosecutors and survivors. 'The bravery of the survivors who came forward to share their trauma and experiences, brought justice for the egregious sexual assaults committed by Christian Sayre,' Everett police Det. Susan Logothetti said in the release. 'There is no doubt that their courage put an end to Sayre continuing his predatory behavior in this community.' Everett is about a 30-mile drive north from Seattle. Everett police save grade school's camping trip from cancellation
The Brief Olivia Park Elementary's fifth-grade camping trip at Camp Killoqua was saved by the Everett Police Department, which provided male chaperons to meet the required student-to-adult ratio. Officer Wade Wyrick and other Everett officers volunteered their time, allowing students to experience outdoor education and see law enforcement in a positive light. The camp offers unique experiences for students from a high-crime neighborhood, emphasizing community involvement and support from local police. STANWOOD, Wash. - Olivia Park Elementary School was on the brink of canceling its fifth-grade camping trip. That is until the Everett Police Department stepped up just in time to save it. "That's what we do — Everett Police. If we have to step up, we do it for the community and especially for the kids. I think every kid deserves to go to camp," said Wade Wyrick, an officer with Everett Police Department. The south Everett students are staying overnight at Camp Killoqua, located in Stanwood, as part of the school's three-day outdoor education program. The opportunity is funded through a state grant. What they're saying "The food is really good. Overall, I'm just glad to be here with my friends. I'm glad that most of them got to come," said Cecilia, a student attending the camp. "It is the talk of fifth grade from the time they get to school until now," said school counselor Stacy Goody. "It's an experience I wish every single kid in the entire world could get." The backstory The school almost did not get the experience. Goody said 2024 was their first time attending camp, and they did not have enough male chaperons to meet the required student-to-adult ratio. "Male chaperons have been very challenging. So, last year we were very close, up until the day before we left, very close to not being able to come," said Goody. In a panic, the school reached out to Everett PD, and police chief John DeRousse answered their call for chaperon help. However, for the 2025 trip, the school ran into the same problem. On the brink of canceling once again, this time four male Everett officers stepped in, including Wyrick. The officer even brought his own Killoqua stories. "All the kids deserve a chance to go to Camp Killoqua. I think it was a blast. I have great memories from it. And once I heard that they were going to have to cancel it, I thought, well, if I can help prevent that, then let's do it," said Wyrick. "I think it was really nice of them, even with their own time and all that, to come over here and help us so that we would get to have this experience as fifth graders," said Cecilia. It's a breath of fresh air for Cecilia and her classmates, much different from the halls of their school in a neighborhood that's high in crime. "Camp provides them with a lot of unique experiences that a lot of these kids have never had and are kind of hard to get normally," said Tristan Pearson, lead outdoor education instructor at Camp Killoqua. It's not just the outdoor experience the officers are helping the kids have by being their chaperon, it's also a chance for young people to see another side of their local law enforcement. "I think it's really important that the kids see us in a different light. I'm not wearing my uniform, I'm not wearing a badge. I'm just a guy," said Wyrick. "The fact that we stepped up and did something off duty shows that we want to be part of our community, not only behind the badge, but within the community to help out too." "Went above and beyond to make sure that he had guys who could be here for us," said Goody. "Very, very thankful for Everett PD because we would not be here without them. We would have had to cancel." The Source Information in this story comes from original reporting by FOX 13 Seattle reporter Franque Thompson. Missing boaters in Everett, WA were family and coworkers
The Brief Crews continued efforts searching for three missing boaters believed to be dead in Possession Sound near Everett. One of the four boaters was saved by a Good Samaritan in a passing boat. Search crews say Possession Sound is creating challenges for the search. EVERETT, Wash. - On Thursday, investigators released more information about the three missing boaters involved in a tragic incident on Possession Sound. What we know Police reported that four boaters took a 26-foot Wednesday for shrimping. Around 1 p.m. calls started to pour in that the boat was going underwater. A Good Samaritan rescued one of the four boaters, a man in his 50s. However, the other three are still missing. Investigators said the owner of the boat, a man in his 60s, a woman in her 40s, and the survivor, were all coworkers. The fourth person on the boat, a man in his 20s, is the son of the owner of the vessel. Dig deeper Seattle Police Harbor Patrol provided deep-water searching technology on Thursday to assist with the effort, Officer Natalie Given with Everett Police told FOX 13 Seattle. Given reported the more than 100-foot-deep waters are creating challenges for the search. She also said the underwater vegetation and murky conditions make visibility difficult. While Seattle Police joined the effort on Thursday, officials with the Coast Guard announced they were pausing their efforts. "This is a tragic event and suspending a search without finding the individuals you are searching for is one of the hardest decisions to make," said Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Jason Acuna, search and rescue mission coordinator for Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound. "Our thoughts are with the missing individual's families during this difficult time." Investigators have not determined what caused the boat to sink. The Source Information in this story came from Everett Police, the U.S. Coast Guard and FOX 13 Seattle reporting. 5 arrested in connection to WA toddler's fentanyl overdose death
The Brief Everett police arrested five people in connection with the 2024 overdose death of a toddler, who died from drug poisoning in a home filled with narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Due to unclear responsibility and local laws, the suspects were charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment, as specific charges related to fentanyl were not supported. EVERETT, Wash. - Everett police have arrested five people in connection with the overdose death of a young toddler in 2024. The incident occurred on April 24, 2024, when patrol officers were called to a home on West Casino Road near Walter E. Hall Park for reports of a toddler not breathing. Officers entered the home and identified a burning smell associated with fentanyl consumption, as well as saw several small, blue pills on the floor of the common area. They found the unresponsive child and were unable to resuscitate them, so they took the toddler to the hospital, where they later died of drug poisoning. Timeline Detectives served a search warrant at the house to investigate the child's death. During their search, they found several items of drug paraphernalia for narcotics in "most rooms of the home." They spoke with the people who lived there, who said they knew of drugs being consumed there. Investigators even found video of some of the occupants doing narcotics in front of young children. Following their investigation, detectives developed probable cause over the course of April 2025 to arrest five people. A man and woman were booked into Snohomish County Jail on April 9, another woman on April 14, another man on April 24, and yet another woman booked on May 1. What they're saying The five suspects have been charged with reckless endangerment — which is a misdemeanor charge, not a felony. Officials say that, due to the "diffused culpability" of who directly caused the toddler's death, they cannot level more specific charges against any of the suspects in the house. Additionally, local laws of endangerment with a controlled substance do not support fentanyl, only methamphetamine. Thus, only misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment could be filed.
