Scammers tap into Coloradan's Facebook page; authorities say it's an ongoing problem that's nearly impossible to investigate

"We're conducting a sale of personal items due to my uncle's move to a care facility," the posting on Facebook begins. Along with it are over 60 photos of items allegedly for sale. Pickups and SUVs, tractor trailers, 4-wheelers, generators and appliances. All at desperation-looking prices. It appears Jeanellil Taylor's uncle had quite an accumulation of possessions. But they need to be sold. On the page the posting says, "To manage this transition smoothly, items are being sold on a first-come, first-serve basis! I'll be out of town assisting with this move and won't be back till next weekend. To reserve an item a deposit is necessary." Except one problem. Jeanellil Taylor of Evergreen had her Facebook page hijacked by scammers. It's fraud. Her uncle is not going into a care facility. There are no items for sale. Taylor, who was on vacation out of state when someone tapped into her Facebook page and took it over, was initially unaware. It was only after friends who were tagged in the Facebook post began contacting her directly when she found out. But she couldn't even look at the posting on her own page. She was unable to get onto her Facebook account. "It's absolutely insane. People are absolutely insane," said Taylor. "People are coming out of the woodwork and they're like, 'Are you selling this? I'll buy this.' And I'm like, what are you talking about.?" A cousin in Arizona contacted her about the item she was buying. She had already sent money via an online digital wallet service as a deposit. It was too late. Taylor tried contacting Facebook to get control of her page again and get the posting taken down. "I tried to reach out to Facebook, tried to change my password, and it's just like nope, nope, nope, nope, shutdown, shutdown, shutdown shutdown. No matter how I tried. Phone numbers, email address nothing," said Taylor describing the process as a vicious circle. People were baited by the photos, which were not always consistent in their backdrop. A Ford F-150 was going for $10,000. A Toyota Rav4, $7,000. A Kubota tractor, $3,000. The posting asks people to contact the seller via Instant Message. Comments have been turned off, so those who do catch on, cannot post a warning. It's a variation on similar scams they see often says Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokesman Mark Techmeyer. "It's really unfortunate. And in situations like this, you know, every one of these investigations have different nuances and parts of it that can be different. But for the most case when you see where someone's Facebook page is hacked, the IP address, where the information is coming from, or is often fake and untraceable." They are nearly impossible to investigate. The perpetrators are often overseas. The jurisdiction for investigating is a tangled mess. "In this particular case, our victim in in Evergreen is a victim of fraud. But then everyone who sent money to make a deposit on these items is a victim of theft. And where they were when they sent that wire, that money, is the jurisdiction that has the responsibility for investigating the theft," said Techmeyer. CBS Colorado sent an email to Facebook's listed media contact Friday. There has been no reply. The posting and Taylor's page appeared still in the hands of the scammers late Monday and had not been taken down. "It is not often that we will work with Facebook in a situation like this, because it nothing really comes to fruition out of it," said Techmeyer. The best way to stop it is buyer beware. "So you just got to stop and think about that and be suspicious of postings where people are asking for money up front," said Techmeyer. Look out for unusually cheap prices and when pictures of multiple items are in different locations, that too is a red flag. Taylor is upset with someone using her good name. "I've always been an honest person and it just drives me crazy that people would do something like this." Her uncle? There were several. But, "They're all up in heaven."

Hot dog! Montana Devil Dawgs serves up American staples

Jul. 27—Stationed behind Montana Devil Dawg's food cart on a rainy Tuesday afternoon, Jeremy Maynard of Evergreen knew what his customer's order was going to be. "Now you want the Semper Fi Dog with the jalapeno cheddar dog ... no bun," he asked. "That's right," the customer answered. The Semper Fi hot dog served with pulled pork and the Ooh Rah Dog with jalapeno cheddar dog are nods to his military background. "I served four years in the Marine Corps," he said. The quintessential metal food cart with the diamond imprint is what started it all for Maynard, who opened Montana Devil Dawgs in 2023. "I've been a cook in the valley for 20-plus years. I've worked in different restaurants, fast food, I love cooking. I was working at M&S Meats, and a good friend of ours, she just recently passed away, she sent me a post on Facebook about this cart and actually pushed me to start doing what I love to do," he said. His goal is to be set up in a food trailer by the fall, but he's not planning to get rid of the cart. Instead, he said it will allow him to expand to operating at two locations at a time. "I won't ever get rid of this. This is where it all started. This is going to stay with us," he said while making pulled pork nachos for a customer. Montana Devil Dawgs is a family affair that includes his wife Kim and their son Brayden, who recently graduated from Glacier High School. Along with taking customer orders and helping out at the stand, Kim Maynard is also responsible for finding locations to set up shop. She said a great resource has been other food truck vendors. "We call it the food truck family. They're such great encouragers. Talking to other food truck vendors, they'll give you insights of what we need to do to progress," Kim Maynard said. Montana Devil Dawgs' menu includes all-beef hot dogs, burgers, pulled pork, loaded potatoes, wraps and nachos. The loaded potato options included loaded with chili and cheese and the Idaho which comes with a hotdog, crumbled bacon and chives. "I'm a hot dog connoisseur," he said with a laugh. "And growing up, some of my greatest memories with me and my dad are going to A's games out in Oakland and watching the A's and having a hot dog and things like that. Hot dogs, to me, help make memories for families. It's an American staple. You go to a barbecue. What do they have? Hot dogs, burgers, maybe chicken." He gets the staples of his menu from other local, family-owned companies — Lower Valley Processing Company in Kalispell and Montana Longhorn Company in Whitefish. "One of the biggest things that people love, one that it's veteran-owned and operated and that we support local. That's a big thing around here in the valley," he said. A Chicago, or New York, or other notable hot dog style, may be on the menu once they get set up in a trailer with more space to prepare the fixings, he said. What is Jeremy Maynard's personal favorite way to serve a hot dog? "For me, a good old-fashioned all-beef hot dog with mustard, that's the way," he said. "It's just simple, easy, but it tastes good. It's my favorite." Coming up with a business name was fun for the Maynards. Jeremy Maynard brainstormed catchy and funny phrases while his wife served as a sounding board if they were too suggestive. "I'm like, make it mean something," Kim Maynard said, laughing. He did. "Devil Dogs was a name given to the Marines in World War I at the Battle of Belleau Wood by the Germans because the way we fought reminded them of hell hounds," Jeremy Maynard said. "We give first responder and military discounts because they work their butts off, day in, day out for what they do," he added. "And we love our customers. We thank every single one of them for their support and giving us that chance and just enjoying the food that we put out. The next stop for the Montana Devil Dawgs will be the Flathead Faerie Festival today. The business will also be at the Evergreen Show 'N' Shine in August. KSH Distriparks, Evergreen Line Partner for Pune Logistics

KSH Distriparks, a key player in container logistics, has joined hands with global shipping major Evergreen Line to improve container availability at ICD Talegaon, near Pune. The initiative ensures continuous access to 40' High Cube containers, enabling both import drop-offs and export pick-ups from this inland facility. Initially, 45–50 High Cube containers will be maintained on-site, with a monthly movement target of 200 containers. Plans are underway to introduce additional 40FT and 20FT dry containers, further expanding the logistics support for regional exporters. This move significantly reduces the need to reposition empty containers from Nhava Sheva to Pune, translating into notable savings on fuel, operational time, and logistics costs. It also supports sustainability efforts by lowering carbon emissions linked to unnecessary container transport. The partnership strategically combines Evergreen's global shipping capabilities with KSH Distriparks' expertise in inland logistics, presenting exporters with a streamlined, one-stop international cargo solution. Malcolm Dsouza, CEO, KSH Distriparks, said: 'Pune is a major export and manufacturing hub. Our tie-up with Evergreen Line allows us to deliver seamless logistics solutions that align with India's multimodal growth and sustainability goals.' Ken Chen, Junior VP – Business Development, Evergreen Line, added: 'By improving container access at ICD Talegaon, we are reducing logistics friction and enhancing service reliability for key export sectors around Pune, including automotive, engineering, and electronics. This initiative also supports national logistics cost reduction and port decongestion.' The collaboration directly supports India's PM Gati Shakti initiative by reinforcing the role of ICDs like Talegaon in creating an integrated logistics network. It also contributes to smoother inland-container connectivity, a crucial element for boosting exports and making Indian manufacturing globally competitive.

Soccer Mommy Covers Pavement's ‘Gold Soundz' for ‘Like a Version'

Soccer Mommy (a.k.a. Sophie Allison) has shared a stellar rendition of Pavement's 'Gold Soundz' as part of her recent appearance on Like a Version, the long-running covers segment from Australian radio station triple j. Recorded during Allison's recent Australian tour in June, the two-song set began with a standard original, which in this case was 'Abigail,' the final single from Soccer Mommy's 2024 album Evergreen. Hosting Gig By Chokeslamming Logan Paul Through His Desk The cover portion of the set saw Allison and her band turn their attention to 1994, sharing a bittersweet version of 'Gold Soundz' – the second single from Pavement's second LP, Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. 'I chose this song 'cause I love Pavement,' Allison said in a post-performance interview. 'I'm a huge Pavement fan. I've actually covered another Pavement song before, but I just always really liked this one and I thought it fit my voice nicely. 'I think it's just really catchy. It gets stuck in your head,' she added. 'It has a nice melody and nice guitar parts. I really like the jangliness of the guitars in this song. I think that's what drew me to it.' Indeed, Allison has certainly shown her love of Pavement in the past. In 2022, Soccer Mommy was invited to perform at Pavements 1933 to 2022, the indie rock outfit's New York City pop-up museum, where she shared covers of 'Here,' 'Gold Soundz,' and 'Spit on a Stranger.' The following year, Soccer Mommy's Karaoke Night EP featured covers of Taylor Swift, Slowdive, Sheryl Crow, and R.E.M., while opening with a recorded rendition of Pavement's 'Here.' 'I do love Pavement,' Allison continued. 'I really, really love Pavement. I first discovered Pavement when I was in high school, and that's kind of when I got really into them, and especially Slanted and Enchanted was my favorite album. But I've just always really liked them. 'It was one of those bands that I got into in high school and never grew out of, and particularly there's a little bit of a renaissance right now with them kind of touring again and doing stuff together. So I think that's why it's fresh in the mind.' Pavement have been sporadically active since their 2022 reunion, with a run of international tour dates taking place since. More recently, they've also been the subject of the aptly-titled Pavements, an experimental semi-fictional biopic directed by Alex Ross Perry which was officially released in June. For his part, Perry has expressed his love of Soccer Mommy's nascent cover, commenting on triple j's Instagram post of the track, 'I extremely support this.' Having first launched in 2004, the Like a Version series has gone from being a near-impromptu acoustic affair to featuring larger studio productions. Numerous artists have taken part over the past two decades, with the likes of Billie Eilish, Childish Gambino, Arctic Monkeys, and more reinventing classic tracks in the process.
