Woman gets scammed by ‘godman', mortgages her jewellery to pay Rs 2.6 lakh
PUNE CITY police have arrested a self proclaimed godman claiming to possess supernatural powers who allegedly promised a woman a hidden gold treasure and duped her of Rs 2.6 lakh. A First Information Report in the case has been registered at the Koregaon Park police station by the 40-year-old woman, resident of Kothrud. Police have arrested the accused identified as Mohammed Khan Madari alias Dekhnewala Khanbaba (65). He has been booked on the charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust along with provisions of the The Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013. According to the police, the complainant who was in financial distress and was facing personal issues, approached the accused through her friend. On the pretext of predicting her future, the accused examined the complaints palms and told her that she was destined to receive a hidden gold treasure. The accused then asked the complainant to get some soil in an earthen pot and asked for Rs 2.6 lakh. He claimed that the money was for sacrificing four goats, two buffaloes and hens to 'awaken the jinn.' The complainant mortgaged her own gold jewellery to arrange the money to be given to the accused. Later, the accused handed a closed earthen pot to her claiming he had used his supernatural powers on the pot. He asked her to open the pot after 17 days, 11 hours and 21 minutes and claimed that it would be filled with golden treasure. Later when the woman discovered she was cheated, she approached the police. 'A trap was laid for the arrest of the accused. He was arrested on Wednesday evening. We have launched a probe to find out how many more people the accused has cheated in this manner.' said an officer from Koregaon Park police station.

‘Black magician' cons woman with promise of hidden treasure
Pune: Koregaon Park police arrested Khanbaba, alias Madari Mohammed Khan, for performing black magic and cheating a 42-year-old woman from Kothrud of Rs 2.6 lakh on the pretext of helping her find a hidden treasure that would improve her financial condition. Senior inspector Sunil Thopte of Koregaon Park police said, "The cheating occurred between June 12 and 15 this year. Khanbaba, a 65-year-old resident of Koregaon Park, promised to perform special prayers to help her obtain a 'hidden treasure'—a pot full of gold and other valuables—after the woman approached him seeking his help to improve her financial condition." Thopte said, "After taking the money and performing some rituals, he gave her a pot wrapped in black cloth and instructed her to open it on the 17th day at 11.21pm. When the woman opened the pot at the given time, she found only mud inside. Realising that she had been defrauded, she contacted Khanbaba." "The woman, a mother of two, was facing financial difficulties, and came in contact with Khanbaba through a common friend," Thopte added. "Khanbaba continued to issue threats and harass her," he said. "After the woman spoke to him on the phone, Khanbaba called her to his place on Wednesday evening. However, we had already set up a trap near his home and arrested him when the woman went to meet him," Thopte said. Khanbaba was arrested under sections related to cheating and Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act. He was produced before a city court, which remanded him in police custody till July 19.

Teenage girl rescued from occult ritual, planned human sacrifice
Yavatmal: The Yavatmal city police uncovered a ritual in which a 16-year-old girl was scalded as part of an occult ritual intended to unearth hidden treasure. The girl later told the police that she was burned intentionally as part of the ritual and that she was to be sacrificed on Guru Purnima. The prime accused, Mahadev Palve, 44, attempted suicide by slitting his throat when police raided his residence in Vanjari Fail area. He was immediately shifted to a hospital and is under treatment. Police said Palve conducted the ritual with participation of two women and their daughters, including the 16-year-old victim. Yavatmal city police inspector Ramkrishna Jadhav led the operation following a tip-off. The police raided Palve's residence and found Palve, his wife Bharti, the victim, and her mother engaged in the ritual. Palve faces charges under various provisions including Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 118(2), 137, 138; Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act Section 75; Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, Section 3; and BNS Section 226 for attempted suicide. The police seized Rs7 lakh cash, a turtle, conch shells, and substantial occult ritual materials during the raid. District superintendent of police Kumar Chinta assured that all involved individuals will be brought to justice.

In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old man from Navi Mumbai allegedly forced his wife and mother-in-law to perform certain "black magic" rituals in the buff to help his brother-in-law get married and circulated these images, police said on Saturday. A case was registered at Vashi police station on July 3 and the investigation was launched. No arrest has been made so far. Police stated the alleged incidents occurred between April and July this year in the house of the accused in Navi Mumbai. He hails from Devria in Uttar Pradesh. On April 15, the accused allegedly forced his wife and her mother to perform certain rituals without clothes intended to help his brother-in-law get married, a police official said. "He forced them to take their nude pictures and subsequently asked her (the complainant) to come to Ajmer with these pictures," the official added. "After the victim went to Ajmer with the pictures, the accused allegedly posted these images in the WhatsApp accounts of her father and brother," the FIR stated. Police booked the accused under sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, and the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013.
