Russell Wilson Getting Early Reps in With NY Giants Standout
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. After a season full of constant change under center, the New York Giants have solidified the quarterback position this offseason. Weeks ahead of training camp, one new addition is already getting work in with one of his top targets. At one point in time, Russell Wilson was viewed as one of the NFL's top quarterbacks. However, since his departure from the Seattle Seahawks, he's had a bit of a fall from grace. Following a brief stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Wilson now finds himself back in the NFC. He inked a one-year deal with the Giants in free agency to serve as a stopgap at quarterback before first-round pick Jaxson Dart takes over. Wilson might not be the player he once was, but he is still a viable starting QB in the NFL. Across 11 starts for the Steelers last season, he posted a 6-5 record while throwing for 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns. In his new situation, Wilson will attempt to provide some stability at quarterback for a team that had some disarray at the position last season. Before training camp gets underway, the veteran QB was spotted with one of New York's top young talents. In a video he posted on his Instagram story, Wilson was seen throwing passes to Giants receiver Malik Nabers. Russell Wilson and Malik Nabers putting in WORK! LFG! — Marshall Green (@MarshallGreen_) July 9, 2025 Wilson and Nabers building a strong connection should bode well for the Giants come the start of the regular season. Despite having multiple different players throwing him passes last year, the former No. 6 pick still managed to put together an impressive rookie campaign. Nabers finished last season with over 1,200 yards and seven touchdowns. Amid the Giants' upgrade at quarterback, he is someone poised to take a sizable step forward this season. With most of New York's skill players in the early stages of their careers, they'll be heavily relying on him to put them in positions to succeed. If Wilson is able to help Nabers and others shine for the Giants this season, it should result in him landing another starting job when he hits the open market again next offseason. NFL Writer Names NY Giants RB as Possible Breakout Candidate
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. While the quarterback position was in disarray for the New York Giants last season, they seemed to have struck gold in other areas of the offense. Multiple prospects showed a lot of promise in 2024, with running back Tyrone Tracy being among the most notable. The Giants drafted Tracy in the fifth round of the 2024 draft in hopes of landing more depth in the backfield. He managed to quickly make an impact as a rookie, showing the potential to be a dual-threat running back. Across 17 appearances (12 starts) as a rookie, Tracy rushed for 839 yards and five touchdowns while also racking up 284 yards in the air. This landed him in exclusive company, as he and Saquon Barkley are the only Giants rookie running backs to crack 1,000 scrimmage yards. Expert NFL analysis on the best NFL player prop picks for Week 10, including Tyrone Tracy's chances of going over his rushing prop. Expert NFL analysis on the best NFL player prop picks for Week 10, including Tyrone Tracy's chances of going over his rushing read: NY Giants Standout Slighted in Recent Positional Rankings After putting together an impressive first season in the NFL, some expect Tracy to remain on an upward trajectory in 2025. Last week, writer Bucky Brooks broke down a handful of possible breakout candidates for next season. With New York expected to have improved play under center, Tracy was among those mentioned. "After rushing for 839 yards as a rookie, the fifth-round running back has an opportunity to surpass the 1,200-yard mark in an offense that features more efficient quarterback play with veteran leader Russell Wilson set to take over from Daniel Jones," Brooks wrote. "The improved passing game will lead to more light boxes (six or fewer defenders) and wider lanes for the former college wide receiver to scoot through on off-tackle runs and designed cut-back plays. With Wilson also expected to target Tracy frequently on swing, screen and option routes in the pass game, the Giants' unheralded RB1 could put up massive scrimmage yard totals as a multi-purpose threat from the backfield." Not only will he benefit in the running game, but the former Super Bowl champion can utilize him in the passing game as well. This should only help Tracy enter the conversation for the most effective dual-threat backs in the league right now. As they continue to rebuild, the Giants are in search of core pieces they can build around for the foreseeable future. If his game can continue to grow in year two, Tracy can prove to the franchise that he can be the long-term answer for them at running back. NY Giants Standout Named Among Top NFL Breakout Candidates
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Last season, the New York Giants had a revolving door at quarterback after deciding to waive Daniel Jones. Despite the disarray under center, numerous prospects still managed to stand out. After showing a lot of promise as a rookie, one of the Giants' skill players is a player many are expecting to take a big leap in 2025. Following a strong college career at LSU, the Giants decided to draft wide receiver Malik Nabers with the No. 6 pick in 2024. This move yielded instant results for the franchise, as he was able to quickly raise New York's floor on offense. Nabers ended up being one of the league's top offensive rookies last season. Across 15 appearances, he totaled 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. Naber's best individual outing of the year came in Week 17 against the Indianapolis Colts when he erupted for 171 yards and a pair of TDs. MoreAlso read: Ex-NY Giants QB Projected To Land Significant Role With New Team Heading into his sophomore campaign, Nabers has a chance to see a sizable uptick in production. New York made the QB position a priority in the offseason, acquiring short and long-term options. Along with signing Russell Wilson to a one-year deal, the Giants traded back into the first round of this year's draft to select Jaxson Dart. In a recent column for Bleacher Report, Brad Gagnon listed a handful of players who should be viewed as breakout candidates in 2025. With the Giants expected to have upgraded quarterback play, Nabers was among those brought up. "Russell Wilson might not be the quarterback he once was, but there were signs in Pittsburgh that he can still shine as an NFL starter. That alone beats the heck out of what the Giants got out of their QBs while ranking in the bottom three in terms of team passer rating and yards-per-attempt average in 2024," Gagnon wrote. "This all bodes well for Malik Nabers, who is still just 21 years old and managed to catch 109 passes for more than 1,200 yards in a seven-touchdown rookie season. What's scary is how productive he was despite showing plenty of room to grow and despite lacking support both at quarterback and in the receiving corps." Also read: NY Giants Standout Slighted in Recent Positional Rankings After showcasing how impactful he can be on the field, defenses are sure to make Nabers a priority this season. Nonetheless, with a QB like Wilson getting him the ball, the Giants wideout should continue to progress into a high-level talent. For more New York Giants and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Rudy Giuliani Chokes Up Remembering Former NYPD Commissioner Bernie Kerik
Rudy Giuliani became visibly emotional while paying tribute to former New York police commissioner Bernie Kerik, who died Thursday at age 69. The disgraced former New York City mayor audibly sniffled and appeared to be holding back tears at several points during Thursday's episode of his 'America's Mayor Live' podcast, a segment of which was recorded just moments after Kerik's death was publicly confirmed. Describing Kerik as 'my closest friend and my brother, who saved my life,' Giuliani said, 'Actually, there was no one in my life who was braver than he was.' 'I was a better man for having known Bernie. I certainly was a braver man and a stronger man, and I wish my father had known Bernie because my father was the bravest man I ever knew,' he explained. 'I don't know what I'm going to do without him. Never expected this. I love him.' A New Jersey native and Army veteran, Kerik was appointed by Giuliani to serve as New York's police commissioner in 2000. He was hailed as a national hero after overseeing the city's response, rescue and recovery efforts in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. In 2004, he was tapped by then-President George W. Bush to lead the Department of Homeland Security. Five years later, however, he pleaded guilty to federal tax fraud and false statement charges, and was given a four-year prison sentence, of which he served three years. President Donald Trump pardoned Kerik during a 2020 clemency blitz, after which Kerik reteamed with Giuliani to investigate Trump's baseless claims of election fraud following his loss to Joe Biden later that year. Deeming Kerik 'one of the first victims of lawfare,' Giuliani added: 'He was pardoned by a great president with a big heart and a lot of decency, and he loved that president. 'Bernie dedicated, I would say, the last years of his life, from about 2015 on, to making sure Donald Trump would become president, and would succeed as president,' he continued. 'He loved him. He absolutely loved him.' Toward the end of the broadcast, Giuliani said he'd been planning to visit Kerik over the weekend. 'I feel like I should've been with him,' he said. Ex-NY state trooper shot himself, falsely claimed he was wounded by unknown gunman: prosecutors
A former New York state trooper was arrested and charged after he allegedly shot himself in the leg and falsely reported that he was wounded by an unknown gunman. Thomas Mascia, 27, shot himself last year at Hempstead Lake State Park before driving to a highway on Long Island and calling for help, prosecutors said Monday. He is also accused of planting shell casings at the scene where he allegedly shot himself. Mascia was charged with official misconduct, tampering with evidence and falsifying documents. Homelessness Nearly Doubles In Blue State In Just 2 Years: Report Mascia had been a trooper since 2019 before he resigned from the force on Friday. He was suspended without pay in November after state police launched a criminal investigation into the shooting. Read On The Fox News App His parents, Dorothy and Thomas, were also each charged with criminal possession of a firearm after the .22- caliber gun used in the shooting was found in their West Hempstead bedroom, according to prosecutors. The three pleaded not guilty and were released until their next court date, scheduled for Feb. 5. Prosecutors said in court filings that Mascia shot himself in an apparent attempt to receive attention and sympathy. Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said after the hearing that Mascia's actions were an "unconscionable" deception. "He knew the fear that it would create, and he did it anyway," she said. A lawyer for the family, Jeffrey Lichtman, said Mascia has been suffering from untreated mental health issues for years. "There are many less severe and less dangerous ways to garner sympathy that don't include shooting oneself," he said. "And now an entire family is suffering for it as they usually do in such situations." Mascia claimed he was shot in the leg on Oct. 30 by the driver of a black sedan who had been parked on the left-hand shoulder of the Southern State Parkway. New York City Mayor Eric Adams Limits Public Schedule For 'Routine Medical Tests' He purported that the driver fled in the direction of New York City in a car with a temporary New Jersey registration, leading authorities to launch a manhunt that lasted several days. Police said there was no video footage of the incident because Mascia's body camera was not activated at the time. Mascia's father was dismissed from the New York Police Department in 1993 after pleading guilty to cocaine distribution charges.
