Lilo & Stitch 2 confirmed! Disney's blue chaos is back to break the live-action sequel
Just when you thought things were getting calm in the Disney multiverse, Stitch said 'Nah.' On 26th June, yes, a nod to his iconic government name Experiment 626, Disney dropped a cheeky teaser announcing the live-action sequel to Lilo & Stitch. In true Stitch fashion, the blue menace zooms through Disney HQ in a hot-pink convertible, yelling, 'Get ready. Here we go!' Mood. Stitch is back, and he is bringing Mayhem What started as a quiet streaming project has exploded into Disney's biggest comeback flex of the year. Lilo & Stitch has raked in over $910 million worldwide since its Memorial Day release and is well on its way to becoming 2025's first billion-dollar theatrical hit. Talk about a glow-up. No shade, but not every Disney reboot has been this lucky (cough Snow White cough Dumbo). While those flopped hard, Lilo & Stitch is dancing its way into the elite circle of live-action wins like The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. Stitch merch = Disney's secret goldmine This is not just about tickets. Let us talk cash: In 2024 alone, Stitch and friends sold $2.6 billion worth of merch. That is plush toys, pyjamas, mugs, backpacks, you name it. Disney could probably build another Disneyland with that revenue, and honestly, they should call it Stitchland. The appeal? It is multigenerational. Zoomers, millennials, Gen Xers, everyone wants a bit of that Hawaiian chaos. The 2002 original is still riding high on the nostalgia wave, and with Dean Fleischer Camp directing the remake, it seems Disney has cracked the family-friendly chaos code. What we know about the sequel so far Here is the catch, Disney is still playing coy. No plot details, no cast announcements, and no release date. Not even a hint of who is returning (but if Lilo and Stitch are not back, we riot). One thing is clear though: Stitch is not done terrorising Earth just yet. Until more info drops, all we have is the teaser and the comforting thought that a new wave of ohana chaos is on its way.

Long before he and Lilo returned to the big screen, Stitch-themed merchandise has remained a huge moneymaker for Disney in the 23 years since the original 2002 animated film. In 2024, Disney sold $2.6 billion in consumer products featuring the 'Lilo & Stitch' characters. 'Lilo & Stitch' follows an adorable blue extraterrestrial creature who crash-lands in Hawaii and gets adopted by a young girl and her older sister. ‘Lilo & Stitch' live-action sequel is on the way from Disney
Get ready, a live-action 'Lilo & Stitch 2' is a go at Disney. The studio tapped its favorite blue alien experiment to share the news Thursday on social media. Fans of the film associate June 26 — or 6/26 — with Stitch, who is known as Experiment 626 until Lilo gives him a real name. The announcement is unsurprising. The live-action adaptation directed by Dean Fleischer Camp has so far grossed over $914.4 million worldwide since its May opening. The announcement, which features Stitch taking a joyride in a pink convertible through Walt Disney Studios, is basically a victory lap. (The live-action 'Snow White,' which was also released earlier this year, grossed just $205.7 million worldwide.) Stitch is also one of Disney's most popular characters. The chaotic and cute alien introduced in the 2002 animated 'Lilo & Stitch' ranks among the top-selling Disney franchises.

Lilo and Stitch might be proving Disney's live-action remakes still have juice after Snow White flopped, as the box office has already surpassed the original animated classic

The Lilo and Stitch live-action remake has only been in theaters for one weekend, but it's blasted its way to a $341.7 million global total at the box office (using estimations for Monday's figures). That's almost $100 million more than the original 2002 movie made in total, and it's also comfortably ahead of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning's $190 million. In fact, Stitch has beaten Cruise twice over, since Lilo & Stitch has set a Memorial Day opening weekend record – nabbing the crown from Top Gun: Maverick (via Variety). Plus, Lilo & Stitch is hot on the heels of the Marvel Phase 5 blockbuster Thunderbolts, which so far has grossed $355.7 million worldwide since the first week of May. This massive performance comes in the shadow of Disney's live-action Snow White, which flopped at the box office and lost the studio millions. It would seem the live-action remake project still has some juice left in it yet. Most likely, this won't be the last we see of Lilo and her alien bestie, since sequels could be on the cards. "It feels like it's going to work very well, and it's the kind of property that lends itself to more," Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman has said. The animated movie spawned multiple sequels and a TV show, so we'll just have to wait and see if the live-action movie follows suit. Lilo and Stitch is in theaters now. When is 'Lilo & Stitch' coming to streaming? Here's our best guess
"Snow White" might not have been the mega-hit that Disney probably wanted it to be, but the studio's definitely got a hit on its hands with "Lilo & Stitch." It's Disney's second live-action remake of the year, and sees the House of Mouse reimagining Chris Sanders' 2002 sci-fi comedy for a new generation, with "Marcel the Shell with Shoes On" director Dean Fleischer Camp at the helm. Once again, wayward alien Experiment 626 crash-lands in Hawaii, where he's mistaken for a lost dog and subsequently taken in by his soon-to-be bestie, six-year-old Lilo (Maia Kealoha), who dubs him "Stitch" and proceeds to try and teach him how to behave. Heartwarming scenes and hijinks ensue. Reviews have been mixed, so far — it's currently sitting at 69% from critics but 93% from fans on Rotten Tomatoes — but the adorable alien critter's new adventure has already raked in over $360 million worldwide, less than a week after its premiere. And given it dropped the same day as "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning", that's no easy feat! Prefer to see Experiment 626's antics unfold from the comfort of your own home? Here's our best guess at when "Lilo & Stitch" will be available to stream at home. At the time of writing, the only way to see the new "Lilo & Stitch" movie is to head to your nearest movie theater. As per the usual plan, before it comes to streaming, "Lilo & Stitch" will first head to Premium Video-on-Demand (PVOD) storefronts like Amazon and the Google Play Store. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. And while we don't have a confirmed "Lilo & Stitch" streaming date at present, we can at least all but guarantee the movie's going to stream on Disney Plus. As I mentioned above, early signs suggest that Disney's live-action "Lilo & Stitch" adaptation is on track to be a solid hit, so I wouldn't be surprised if we have to wait a while before the movie comes to the small screen. My current guess at a potential "Lilo & Stitch" streaming date is that the movie will arrive on Disney Plus on or around August 27, 2025. That guess is based on the fact that we typically wait around 100 days for new Disney movies to come to Disney Plus. Looking back at some of the most recent Disney releases, we waited 97 days for "Mufasa: The Lion King" to arrive, while "Moana 2" viewers had to wait 109 days between the theatrical and Disney Plus release of the hit sequel. With "Lilo & Stitch" already raking in plenty of cash, though, I wouldn't be surprised if Disney kept it in theaters even longer, so maybe the streaming release won't happen until September. Of course, this is purely speculation, as we don't have any concrete info mere days after the movie's premiere. As and when we get a confirmed Disney Plus release date for "Lilo & Stitch," we'll be sure to share it here, so keep checking back.
