Sharon Osbourne's fertility battle - IVF 'torture', six pregnancies and sad phone call
Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne were married for more than four decades and underwent IVF in a bid to expand their family. Sadly, this didn't work and Sharon later spoke of her anguish Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne died this week at the age of 76, leaving behind his beloved widow Sharon. The couple were married for 43 years and endured many ups and downs along the way. Ozzy had been married once before when he met Sharon, 72, and had three children with his first wife Thelma Riley before he met his "soul mate". "Sharon is like my soulmate — sometimes I love her, sometimes I don't love her, sometimes I'm angry with her, sometimes I'm crazy about her, sometimes I'm very jealous of her, sometimes I wanna f**king kill her," the late star said last year. But while the couple were undoubtedly smitten, with their unconventional relationship showcased in smash-hit early '00s MTV reality show The Osbournes, Ozzy once tried to strangle his wife and had at least one long-term affair. Sharon, 72, remained loyal and is said to be devastated and "fragile" following her husband's passing, with paramedics trying to resuscitate the star for hours before he was announced dead at the couple's home. The rocker was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2019 and had numerous other health issues, with a source telling The Mirror he was on "borrowed time". In a statement this week, the Osbourne family revealed the rocker died on Tuesday morning. They said: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time." Ozzy had three children with Sharon - Aimee, 41, Kelly, 40 and Jack, 39. Speaking to Metal Hammer, Sharon spoke of the difficulty of combining work as her husband's manager with raising their young family. "I managed my husband and I had three children," she said. "Six pregnancies – I lost three and I had three. We built our own little family." The couple had been unable to conceive after the birth of Jack after a stomach infection damaged Sharon's fallopian tubes. She underwent IVF, something she called "mental torture". "Sadly it didn't work," she said in her autobiography Extreme. "I just couldn't take that ride. The wait for results, for each phone call, was mental torture. It did me in and I couldn't go through it again." Ozzy performed for the last time on July 6 in Birmingham, where his band Black Sabbath formed 56 years ago. Closing the gig, he told 42,000 fans: "It's the last song ever. Your support has enabled us to live an amazing lifestyle, thank you from the bottom of our hearts." The star was beloved by his fans and most of all by Sharon, of whom he said: "At the end of the day, I love her more than anything in the world. Put it this way: I couldn't live without her. I don't wanna live without her."
