Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic in for review
Michail, 11 July 2025 The Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic is the new middle ground in the Galaxy smartwatch series. It sits above the baseline Watch8 and borrows some features from the Galaxy Watch Ultra while still keeping its signature rotating bezel. There's nothing surprising inside the box, Samsung is giving you a magnetic wireless charging pad attached to a USB-C cable. Our review unit comes in Black, which has some contrasting stainless-steel elements, giving off a sharp and elegant look. It comes with the faux leather watch band, which is sadly proprietary, so you can't just swap out any old 20mm band like on the previous generations. Back to bezel. We definitely have a soft spot for physical control buttons and they just don't get better than a tactile knob like this. But there's more, Galaxy Watch8 Classic also borrows the Galaxy Watch Ultra's Quick button. It's remappable so you can assign it to all sorts of different features or shortcuts. Weirdly enough, the 46mm Watch8 Classic features a 1.32-inch AMOLED screen – the same size as the much smaller 40mm Galaxy Watch8. It's still protected by Sapphire Glass and maxes out at 3,000 nits which should be more than enough, even for bright outdoor use. Watch8 Classic gets the Exynos W1000 chip just like the vanilla and Ultra models, alongside 2GB RAM and 64GB storage. Samsung claims the 445mAh battery inside the Watch8 Classic should offer up to 40 hours with the Always-on Display (AoD) off and 30 hours with AoD on. We'll make sure to test these claims alongside the health and activity features in our detailed review. For now, you can check out our Galaxy Watch8 series hands-on for more coverage of Samsung's new smartwatches. Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic 64GB 2GB RAM € 529.00

Qualcomm is working on a much better chipset for smartwatches
According to a new rumor, Qualcomm is currently working on a new chipset for smartwatches, codenamed Aspen and bearing the model number SW6100. From that we can infer that it will be marketed as the Snapdragon Wear W6, as the W5 has the model number SW5100. Interestingly, the new chip isn't based on any existing Qualcomm product, unlike all of its predecessors. The Snapdragon Wear W6 is bespoke for wearable platforms, and its CPU will have one Cortex-A78 core and four Cortex-A55 cores, alongside support for LPDDR5X RAM. It will be built by TSMC. Google's Pixel Watch 3 uses the SW5100 The W5 was unveiled in 2022, and so it's definitely high time for a replacement from Qualcomm. The W6 seems to focus on performance with switching from four Cortex-A53 cores in its predecessor to four Cortex-A55 and a Cortex-A78 big core. If that configuration seems familiar, it's because Samsung's Exynos W1000 also uses it. It's unclear when Qualcomm will bring the new SoC to the market, but it might be announced in September at its annual Snapdragon summit, in which case we should see the first smartwatches using it appear in early 2026. Prime Day deals: Samsung Galaxy Watches and tablets on sale, both old and new
Besides the new foldables, Samsung launched new smartwatches – a new vanilla model and a new Classic, plus it refreshed the Ultra with 64GB storage and a new color. Check out our hands-on for more details. These won't be out in time for Prime Day, but last year's models are still available – and some are deeply discounted. Samsung managed to slim down the Watch8, it's 8.6mm thick compared to 9.7mm for the Galaxy Watch7. And the battery got a bit bigger – just a bit, 435mAh vs. 425mAh for the 44mm model and 325mAh/300mAh for the 40mm one. A more tangible upgrade is the brighter display, 3,000 nits vs. 2,000 nits. The new model uses the same Exynos W1000 as before. And what's with that squircle shape? Samsung says it is more comfortable and stable, but not everyone will love the look. Also, the straps now use a Dynamic Lugs system, so you can't use standard straps. And here's the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 for comparison. There's no discount, but Amazon will give you a $50 gift card if you pre-order one. The Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic is a bit weird. We love that the rotating bezel has made a comeback and we appreciate the new Quick Button. That said, there's only a 46mm model available with a 1.34' screen – that's rather small, isn't it? The Galaxy Watch6 Classic has a 43mm model with a 1.3' screen and a 47mm model with a 1.5' screen. It's called '47mm', but in reality it measures 46.6 x 46.5 x 10.9mm, while the Watch8 Classic is 46.4 x 46.0 x 10.6mm. Of course, the Galaxy Watch6 Classic uses the older Exynos W930 (5nm vs. 3nm for the W1000), which hurts performance and battery life. It's cheaper, though, much cheaper. How much cheaper depends on the size and the choice between Bluetooth and 4G models. And here is the Galaxy Watch8 Classic, which costs double but you do get a $100 gift card if you pre-order. This Galaxy Unpacked event didn't bring any new tablets, but the older models are on sale for Prime Day. Let's have a look. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 is two years old at this point and its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is starting to show its age. It's not slow by any means and easily tops the Exynos 1580 inside the FE slates (more on them in a moment). And this is the only premium 11' OLED tablet that Samsung offers. If you want a bigger tablet – or more performance – the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ has a 12.4' OLED display and a Dimensity 9300+ chipset. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE and Tab S10 FE+ are powered by the Exynos 1580 as mentioned above and use IPS LCDs – 10.9' and 13.1', respectively, running at 90Hz instead of 120Hz like the premium S tablets. All of the Tab S models are dust and waterproof with an IP68 rating, by the way. We may get a commission from qualifying sales.
