Disney Plus to release 'best ever' Marvel movie spin-off earlier than expected
The new and highly-anticipated superhero series is dropping on Disney Plus very soon. Streaming giant Disney Plus has revealed that the spin-off series for Marvel's blockbuster film is landing on the platform sooner than anticipated. Eyes of Wakanda, which continues the story from the smash-hit Marvel movie Black Panther and its follow-up Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is an original action-adventure series. Disney Plus has unveiled an explosive trailer for the fresh animated programme, created alongside Proximity Media's Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian and Kalia King. The series "follows the adventures of brave Wakandan warriors throughout history", according to Disney's official synopsis. It adds: "In this globe-trotting adventure, the heroes must carry-out dangerous missions to retrieve Vibranium artifacts from the enemies of Wakanda. They are the Hatut Zaraze and this is their story." This follows the series being revealed last month at Annecy International Animation Festival, reports the Express. Supporters have been stunned to discover that Eyes of Wakanda is premiering far earlier than anticipated, with all four episodes scheduled to arrive on Disney Plus on August 1, 2025. Posting on X, the social media site previously called Twitter, Marvel enthusiasts shared their delight about the fresh trailer. "Excited for this! ! WAKANDA defo needed more exploration," one posted, whilst another concurred: "The fans are excited for this." "Finally, more Wakandan lore to obsess over," a third viewer gushed, whilst another remarked: "Very much looking forward to this." "The trailer gave me chills, holy..." one viewer gushed, while another eager fan declared: "Take my money!!!" "M A R V E L! ! ! you now have my attention," another chimed in, with yet another simply stating: "OMGGG." However, not all fans were thrilled that the show won't be live action, with one disgruntled viewer grumbling: "This should've been live action. We got Secret Invasion in live action but not this?" The series, developed by Ryan Coogler and directed by Todd Harris, boasts a star-studded voice acting cast, including Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, Zeke Alton, Steve Toussaint and Anika Noni Rose. Ryan Coogler's original Black Panther film, which holds a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, tells the tale of King T'Challa, played by the late Chadwick Boseman. The synopsis reads: 'After the death of his father, T'Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. 'When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T'Challa's mettle as king -- and as Black Panther -- gets tested when he's drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. 'Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.' 'Superman' Blows Past Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Is "Superman" the better movie, or is 2013's "Man of Steel" superior? You don't have to look far to find plenty of heated and often unfriendly debate on the subject online. But while the answer to which film is better is subjective, on Tuesday Forbes reported on a purely objective fact: the domestic box office earnings for "Superman" have just passed those for "Man of Steel," making the former movie the highest domestic grossing solo Superman film ever. Read More: 'Eyes of Wakanda' - Everything We Know So Far Of course, as Forbes notes, there are some caveats. On one hand there is the matter of inflation. "Man of Steel" made $291 million in 2013 and while "Superman" has passed that number, that $291 million in 2013 would be $407 million today. David Corenswet in "Superman". David Corenswet in "Superman". Warner Bros And on the other hand while "Superman" may be leaping tall buildings domestically, internationally its numbers remain soft. While "Man of Steel" ended its theatrical run earning $379 million overseas, "Superman" is only at $214 million internationally. So while "Superman" may have defeated "Man of Steel" domestically, Forbes argues that it's unlikely James Gunn's film is going overtake Zack Snyder's overall box office once the current theatrical run ends. As far as why "Superman" is having a much weaker time overseas than its 2013 counterpart, Gunn has offered a couple of possible reasons. He's argued that Superman isn't as much of a "known commodity" across the globe, though that begs the question of why "Man of Steel" did so well. "It also affects things that we have a certain amount of anti-American sentiment around the world right now," Gunn said. "It isn't really helping us." Regardless of how "Superman" plays out at the box office, critically it's been a hit with reviewers and fans. The film currently enjoys an 83% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 91% audience score. "Superman" is currently playing in theaters. The film is written and directed by James Gunn. "Superman" stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced.
