Student reports economy rice stall for steep prices

Compiled by FARIK ZOLKEPLI, C. ARUNO and R. ARAVINTHAN A REPORT by a university student in Perak, who was charged RM18 for a plate of economy rice, led to authorities taking action against the stall, Sin Chew Daily reported. The local student was shocked when he was charged RM18 for a plate of rice with potato, broccoli and some meat at a stall in Tanjong Malim last month. When asked the reason for the price, the stall owner explained that he had taken a large portion of pork belly, which cost RM10. The remaining RM8 was made up of RM3 each for potato and broccoli, and RM2 for rice. The student lodged a report with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry on May 31 and an investigation was launched on June 3. The student told the daily that he received a letter from the ministry on June 17, concluding that the stall had violated provisions in the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 and was told that action had since been taken against the stall. > The daily also reported that the popularity of PopMart's Labubu dolls had led to knockoffs appearing in the market. A jeweller in Shenzhen, China, was spotted selling gold-plated jewellery of a rabbit-like creature with pointed teeth. Many Internet users said it bore a striking resemblance to Labubu. The jeweller in Shuibei denied that the character was Labubu, saying it only resembled the doll. A spokesman from PopMart said that if businesses were profiteering on the likeness of Labubu, it could be an infringement of intellectual property rights. Daughter believes reconciliation with Amy Search is possible

Compiled by FARIK ZOLKEPLI and C. ARUNO DESPITE being estranged from her rock star father Amy Search, actress Nabila Huda Suhaimi believes they would become close again one day, Sinar Harian reported. Nabila said they have never discussed their feelings openly. 'I believe this is fate. I miss him, it is hard to explain,' she said. For Nabila, while fate and time have distanced her from her father, it does not mean their love for each other has faded. 'The story between me and my father never ends. 'It is no use to be emotional as life must go on. 'It is best we calmly live life without overthinking it. If there is a chance for us to be reunited, it will be so.' > The daily also reported that a recent flood brought smelly, thick mud to Taman Saujana Aman in Kuala Selangor. Resident Mohd Fariq Khairy, 41, said a broken river barrier near his housing area allowed the water to flow in. 'The flood on Wednesday not only entered my living room and kitchen but it also left behind a layer of thick, smelly mud that's difficult to clean,' he said. 'Once the water went down, the mud was everywhere. We've had to use a high-powered hose just to clean it.' Mohd Fariq added that this kind of flooding with mud is a common occurrence after heavy rain. 'We not only fear the flood but also the mud that comes with it.'
