Kaizer Chiefs new era: New captain, new coaches
Kaizer Chiefs will look very different next season with several big changes imminent. Kaizer Chiefs will be appointing a new captain next season following the departure of Yusuf Maart. Meanwhile, there are some changes to the technical team that have been spotted during Amakhosi's pre-season tour of The Netherlands. Maart is joining SV Reid. One his technical team members were left behind in South Africa when Amakhosi jetted of to The Netherlands. Whilst, a few new coaches were spotted in training. Strenght and conditioning coach, Majdi Safi has been left at home following links to African giants, Wydad Casablanca. Performance Analyssts – Vaughan Coetzee, Yu-sha Said and Mark Davy are the new technical team members curently working with Amakhosi. Meanwhile, as reported on The South African, Chiefs want to bring back former head coach Dillon Sheppard to the senior technical team. 'That's the plan. The club is believed to have spoken to the senior technical team about his addition and apparently all parties agreed that it's a good idea, mainly in assisting with the local players whether young or experienced stars. So that's the position right now,' the insider stated on SNL . Furthermore, he could take up a hybrid coaching role at Chiefs next season. 'The arrangement is that he would be with the senior team during the week, and when, and if the DDC is playing, then he will be with them. You know most of the time coach Vela Khumalo is with the Under-17 national team and in September they are going to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup so coach Sheppard will still be coaching there (in the DDC) as well. Apparently that's the arrangement as things stand,' he added on the same publication. Let us know by leaving a comment below or sending a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Kaizer Chiefs news: Chiefs plan coaching boost, eye ex-player return
Kaizer Chiefs have started making big moves ahead of the 2025/26 PSL season. The club is reportedly close to finalizing the return of former head coach Dillon Sheppard to their senior technical staff. This plan would see Sheppard take on a hybrid coaching role, splitting his time between the first team and the Development and Discovery Centre (DDC). An insider revealed, 'Sheppard has always been a passionate part of Chiefs. His return will bring stability and fresh ideas both on the training ground and at the academy.' The arrangement would allow Sheppard to support local players — both young and experienced — while also continuing his work with the DDC, especially since current coach Vela Khumalo will be involved with the Under-17 national team preparing for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in September. This dual role could be critical in shaping Chiefs' future talent pipeline. In addition to the coaching changes, Chiefs have also shown interest in bringing back midfielder Lebohang Lesako. 'Scouts and recruiters have been following his progress closely. They know him well, and are happy with his growth both as a player and as a person,' the insider added. Lesako's potential return to Naturena is seen as a move to add experience and creativity to the squad, bolstering depth in midfield. Chiefs have already signed six new players this transfer window, but with at least five more players heading out, the club is clearly intent on reshaping the squad. These off-field moves could prove crucial as the team looks to challenge strongly next season. Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp message to 060 011 021 1.
