Florida man indicted for '86' posts threatening to kill Alina Habba
Print Close By Brooke Singman Published June 27, 2025 FIRST ON FOX: A Florida man was indicted Friday for allegedly threatening to kill Alina Habba in a series of online "86" posts against the interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey, Fox News Digital has learned. "86" has been interpreted by law enforcement officials to mean "get rid of." Gregory W. Kehoe, the Interim U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Florida, announced the charges Friday. According to the indictment reviewed by Fox News Digital, Salvatore Russotto, in May, made a threat to "injure and kill the victim in a series of online posts." FBI DIRECTOR PATEL SAYS HE'S HAD TO DIVERT RESOURCES TO INVESTIGATE 'COPYCATS' OF COMEY '86 47' POST Fox News Digital has learned that the victim referred to in the indictment is Habba, the interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey who previously served as counselor to President Donald Trump. "[VICTIM] is a c***," Russotto posted. "86 that b****." He also allegedly posted: "A slow painful death for [VICTIM]. 86 that c***." Russotto also allegedly posted: "Eliminate [VICTIM]. 86 Traitor. Death penalty for all traitors." Russotto was charged with transmission of an interstate threat to injure and retaliating against a federal law enforcement officer by threat. "This is yet another disturbing example of a dangerous copycat inspired by the reckless behavior of former officials, targeting those who serve our country and threatening the very people working to keep America safe," FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News Digital. "Our FBI will not tolerate political violence in any form." Patel added: "I'm grateful to our law enforcement partners in Florida for their swift action and steadfast commitment to justice." The indictment comes after Patel said that he has been forced to divert agents to investigate "copycats" of potential threats to Trump as a result of former FBI Director James Comey's "86 47" social media post last month. FORMER FBI DIRECTOR JAMES COMEY MEETS WITH SECRET SERVICE AFTER CONTROVERSIAL '86 47' POST "Do you know how many agents I've had to take offline from chasing down child sex predators, fentanyl traffickers, terrorists because everywhere across this country, people are popping up on social media and think that a threat to the life of the president of the United States is a joke and they can do it because he did it?" Patel said last month. "That's what I'm having to deal with every single day, and that's what I'm having to pull my agents and analysts off because he thought it was funny to go out there and make a political statement," he continued. An FBI official told Fox News Digital that they cannot disclose the number of "copycat" incidents due to ongoing investigations but described the number to Fox News Digital as "significant." Comey met with Secret Service officials in Washington this month for an interview about his "86 47" Instagram post, two sources briefed on the meeting told Fox News. Comey is under investigation for the now-deleted Instagram post that showed seashells arranged on a beach to read "86 47." "Cool shell formation on my beach walk," he wrote along with the post. Comey offered an explanation for the post after he received backlash on social media. "I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw today on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message," the subsequent post from Comey said. "I didn't realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down." Gold Cup roundtable: Should the U.S. fear Canada or Mexico more?
Next up for the U.S. men's national team is a CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals clash against Costa Rica on Sunday (7 p.m. ET on FOX). To recap their group stage. A 5-0 drubbing of Trinidad & Tobago, followed by 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia (an invited team to the tournament) and then an entertaining 2-1 victory over Haiti. Those aren't the biggest brand-name wins, but that's okay. The way the U.S. entered the tournament amid drama of which players are here (and who isn't), any positive momentum for coach Mauricio Pochettino and his crew was welcome. So, which players have made the most of it with the 2026 World Cup next summer? Can the U.S. finish this Gold Cup as winners? Here's what stood out from the group stage of the Gold Cup and what's for this weekend's quarterfinals. Which USMNT player has made the best case for a World Cup spot? McIntyre: Malik Tillman, without a doubt. Three years after almost making the 2022 World Cup roster as a 20-year-old, Tillman began 2025 as a coin flip for next summer. But with three goals in three games at this Gold Cup, he's staking a claim for a starting spot at main event — even when regulars like Christian Pulisic and Tim Weah return. The silky attacker seems well-suited to occupy a central playmaking role between Pulisic and Weah — the job Gio Reyna has at times filled for the U.S. Tillman's emergence this month is more bad news for Reyna, who didn't play in either of Borussia Dortmund's first two matches at the FIFA Club World Cup. But it's great for Tillman and the USMNT. Litman: Outside of Tillman, I would say Sebastian Berhalter has raised his profile. He was especially noticeable against Saudi Arabia, where he won most of his one-on-one battles and stood up for Tyler Adams when he was pushed to the ground. Berhalter has been extra impressive when it comes to set pieces, too, offering a perfect ball on Chris Richards' goal in that same match. Set pieces have been a thorn in the USMNT's side. In the past, Christian Pulisic has taken them – the overall service was suboptimal and the Americans didn't capitalize enough. Berhalter, meanwhile, offers this critical skill set that will be important for Mauricio Pochettino to take into consideration when he's mulling over roster selection for the 2026 World Cup. Who has been the biggest surprise at this Gold Cup? McIntyre: It has to be Panama's Ismael Diaz. Díaz scored five goals in the group stage, leapfrogging Tillman and into the top spot in the Golden Boot race with his hat trick against Jamaica on Tuesday. I know he also scored a hat trick in the 2023 Gold Cup, but his production so far is still a surprise. Litman: It was surprising to see Jamaica eliminated in the group stage. The Reggae Boyz went 1-2 in the group stage to skid to a third-place finish in Group C. They were surprisingly upset by Guatemala 1-0 in their first match (after beating that same squad 3-0 the week prior) and were crushed by Panama 4-1 in the third match to seal their fate. Mexico and Canada: What has stood out from the biggest rivals? McIntyre: I don't think either has looked invincible, or even all that good, at this Gold Cup. El Tri struggled to beat the Dominican Republic and settled for a scoreless tie with a banged up and shorthanded Costa Rican side (though add my name to the list of people who think Santi Gimenez's late golazo should've counted). Meantime, Les Rouges have been wholly unconvincing since their tourney-opening thumping of Honduras. Canada couldn't beat Curaçao in their second match, and they couldn't score in Tuesday's group finale until El Salvador had been reduced to nine men. They're also missing their best player in captain Alphonso Davies — and maybe some swagger because of it. Litman: I'll take Canada. From the controversy around manager Jesse Marsch which resulted in a two-game suspension, to the team tying Curaçao and only beating El Salvador 2-0 when they were down two men doesn't give good feelings that this is a team who has what it takes to win it all. If they're not careful, Canada could be ousted by Guatemala in the quarters this weekend. True or False: Will the U.S. win the Gold Cup? McIntyre: False. I think the U.S gets past Los Ticos and advances to Wednesday's semifinal against either Canada or Guatemala. Beating Canada won't be easy, though not impossible, assuming they prevail as expected. But beating Canada and then either Panama or especially Mexico, who'd take the field for the finale in front of a sea of green shirts in Houston on July 6, might be a little bit beyond a U.S. squad that is missing more than a dozen of its top players. Can it happen? Sure. It did in 2021. This group, like that one, is tight off the field and has been building momentum on it. If they play their hearts out, play together and get a bounce or two, they can win this thing. I just wouldn't bet on it. Litman: True. The USMNT should beat Costa Rica in the quarterfinal and advance to the semi, where it would face the winner of Canada-Guatemala. If it's Canada, the U.S. has an opportunity for Nations League revenge. And if this motley crew of an American squad can come together and do that, they would have the momentum to potentially take on a quality Mexico squad in the final. Playing El Tri in front of what would likely be a pro-Mexico crowd in Houston will be challenging, but that's the kind of test the team needs a year before the World Cup. Plus, wouldn't it be quite the story if the USMNT came together after all the pre-tournament drama and raised the Gold Cup trophy? Scoop: New Republican Senate candidate in Kentucky to team up with top Trump ally
FIRST ON FOX - Republican businessman and entrepreneur Nate Morris, the newly announced Senate candidate in the 2026 Kentucky race to succeed retiring former longtime GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell, will team up with a top ally of President Donald Trump. Morris, who is showcasing his political outsider credentials and his support for Trump's MAGA movement, will be joined at a campaign event just south of Louisville, Kentucky, on Monday morning by conservative leader Charlie Kirk. The news was first shared with Fox News on Friday. Kirk, a MAGA world rock star and ally of Trump and the president's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., leads the influential Turning Point USA youth organization. Watch: Nate Morris On Fox Business It's likely that Kirk, who has praised Morris, will endorse him when the two team up on the campaign trail. Read On The Fox News App Morris joins Rep. Andy Barr and former Kentucky Attorney General and 2023 GOP gubernatorial nominee Daniel Cameron in the race for the Republican Senate nomination in the red-leaning state. The GOP nomination, which will be decided in next spring's Kentucky primary, will likely turn into a referendum on McConnell and a battle for Trump's support. Mitch Mcconnell Makes A Major Announcement A campaign release announcing Morris' candidacy described him as "a staunch ally of President Trump" who would "be a warrior for the America First agenda" in the Senate. And Morris declared his candidacy during an interview on "Triggered," a popular podcast hosted by Donald Trump Jr., who has praised him. He's also a personal friend of Vice President JD Vance. Morris has been a leading voice in Kentucky this year in his criticism of McConnell, who has long been a top GOP Trump antagonist. He pilloried McConnell, who stepped down from his Senate GOP leadership position, for the senator's votes against top Trump Cabinet nominees. And he blasted Barr and Cameron – who was once seen as a McConnell protege – for not aggressively criticizing the senator for his votes. First On Fox: Former Trump Ambassador Launches Senate Bid McConnell announced on his 83rd birthday in February that he wouldn't seek re-election next year. McConnell has held the seat since 1985 and is the longest-serving senator in Kentucky history. Morris said the GOP Senate primary will be "a referendum on Mitch McConnell's record, it's a referendum on Mitch McConnell's legacy." And he aimed to tie Barr and Cameron to the senator, claiming that "you have two McConnellites who owe everything to Mitch McConnell versus the outside business guy that's running as the MAGA candidate. I think that contrast is gonna be very, very striking to Kentuckians all over the state because they've had enough of Mitch." But Barr's campaign quickly returned fire, arguing that "Nate Morris is pretending to be MAGA now, but he can't run from all the liberal trash in his past." And Barr took to social media to highlight that "I'm the ONLY candidate in this race who has a RECORD of supporting President .@realDonaldTrump and advancing the MAGA agenda. President Trump and I will continue to Make America Great Again when I'm in the U.S. Senate." Only On Fox News: Senate Republican Campaign Chair Reveals How Many Seats He's Aiming For In 2026 Cameron, in a social media post, also criticized Morris, charging his new rival is "a globalist who dons a MAGA hat and pretends to be 'America First' now that we are on the rise." Morris, in announcing his bid, showcased his family's blue-collar roots. According to a bio released by his campaign, he's a ninth-generation Kentuckian with family ties to Appalachia, was raised in a union household by a single mother, and attended public schools, his campaign bio said. The campaign said 19 of Morris' relatives worked at a local auto plant, where his grandfather served as the union leader. First On Fox: Republican Launches Second Straight Bid To Flip Democrat-held Senate Seat In Key Battleground While Morris can't compete with Cameron and Barr when it comes to name recognition in Kentucky, he'll be able to launch ads highlighting his bio using the wealth he earned as an entrepreneur. Morris founded Rubicon on a $10,000 line of credit and turned it into one of the country's largest waste and recycling companies. In a campaign launch video, Morris said: "I know a little bit about garbage. And Mitch McConnell? He's trashed Trump and for over 40 years, he's been dumping on us." "Let's dump career politicians and take out the trash in Washington," he added. Morris currently serves as chairman and CEO of Morris Industries, which he founded in 2010. "When I came into the world, my mother was on food stamps. We have been fighting and scrapping for everything we have like most Kentuckians," Morris said. "I have been able to live the American dream because of how great this country is." The Morris campaign is being led by veterans of the 2024 Trump-Vance campaign, including veteran pollster Tony Fabrizio, strategists Andy Surabian, Chris Grant and data consultant Tim Saler. An outside group supporting the Morris campaign is being overseen by Trump-Vance 2024 veterans Arthur Schwartz, Luke Thompson and Cliff Sims. With two-term Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear and Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman both passing on a Senate run, state House minority floor leader Pamela Stevenson is making a bid.
