Joel Selwood set for AFL return after sudden death of his brother Adam
Geelong great Joel Selwood will make his long-awaited return to the AFL commentary box this Sunday. The 37-year-old has been on a break from his media commitments after the sudden death of his brother Adam in May, aged just 41. One of four Selwood brothers to play in the AFL, Adam played 187 games for West Coast. He was part of the Eagles' premiership side that defeated the Sydney Swans in a classic grand final in 2006. Joel, who has just returned from a family trip to Bali, paid tribute to Adam on Instagram following his death, writing: 'Rest up, love you brother. Look after each other', referencing his brother Adam. He finished it off with a love heart and two dove emojis. Joel has been on leave since the tragic incident, but will be back with the Channel 7 commentary team on Sunday for St Kilda's clash with Melbourne at Marvel Stadium. AFL world rallies around Selwood family Adam's wife Fiona Selwood said in a statement via the AFL in May: 'We are heartbroken by the passing of Adam earlier today. Words cannot express the grief and sadness we feel. 'Adam was a loving husband and an incredible father to Lenny and Billie. We are devastated to lose such a wonderful husband, father, son and brother. 'We will miss Adam deeply — his spirit, his kindness, and the joy he brought to every room. 'His determination, the lessons he shared, and his infectious personality will stay with us always. Adam had a unique ability to make people feel special, and our family was lucky to experience that every day.' The footy world quickly paid their respects to the 41-year-old who was remembered as a selfless man who was loved by all. 'Don't have the words to write about Adam Selwood. Heartbreaking. 3 months after his twin, his best mate, Troy. Awful, awful,' Channel 7's Ryan Daniels wrote. While the Herald Sun's Jay Clark said on Fox Footy: 'The football world is in mourning today. 'It's hard to comprehend the pain the family is feeling today after the death of his twin brother Troy, who died just months earlier.'

Caroline Wilson tells Hutchy to ‘grow up' in shock spray live on-air
Caroline Wilson bluntly told Craig Hutchison to 'grow up' during a feisty spat live on Channel 7. The pre-planned segment, which Hutchison clearly did not know was going to happen, related to the media mogul's awkward appearance on radio network RSN last week after he announced a raft of sackings at the station. Earlier this month, the TV host's SEN group purchased RSN in a $3.25 million deal and immediately set about cutting costs, including giving popular hosts Daniel Harford and Michael Felgate the flick. Watch the Hutchy-Caro exchange in the video player above Many long-time listeners of the station only learned the news when Hutchison fronted Felgate's Racing Pulse show last Thursday. So Wilson took the opportunity to make a cheeky plea over her own future on the Channel 7 show. Set up by Riewoldt in a section called The Spill, the former St Kilda captain put the vague question to Wilson: 'The hour on air of the Agenda Setters is the highest risk of all.' The long-time Age reporter replied: 'Well, certainly if you're on air with Craig Hutchison. 'This is no respect, disrespect I should say, to Michael Felgate or Daniel Harford for that matter. 'But if you're going to remove me from the show, can you please not do it with me on-air?' Wilson delivered the jab with a straight face and Hutchison did not take it well. 'This is not something to joke about,' he shot back. When Wilson said 'I'm not joking about it', Hutchy said: 'No, that's incredibly disrespectful and disappointing. That story is incorrect. It didn't happen.' Wilson, clearly surprised by Hutchison's reaction, stuck to her guns. 'Oh, don't. Craig, you walked into the studio, I know Michael Felgate already knew that his show would no longer be continuing,' she said. 'But if you're going to do it to me, I would rather it happen behind the scenes and not on air.' With Hutchison's production company directly involved in The Agenda Setters, perhaps Wilson just signed her own papers? Watch this space. But Hutchy wasn't taking the shot lying down. 'There was a press release the day before and there was a mature, two-way conversation on-air and you're making light of it, which is disappointing,' a seemingly hurt Hutchy replied. Wilson then had the last word, scoffing as she said: 'Oh, grow up.' Cornes and Riewoldt then did their best to keep the show moving, moving onto a story about Travis Boak and his habits in the bedroom the night before a game. Somehow, that topic was nowhere near as awkward as the exchange between the old journalists. In a bizarre segment last week, Felgate had the opportunity to grill Hutchison about why he was losing his job, with the latter doing his best to stress it wasn't a personal decision. Felgate began the interview asking: 'I've got to start with the elephant in the room. An announcement yesterday which came out that there will be programming changes. ' Breakfast with Harf and this show, Racing Pulse, will no longer exist in the new regime. 'Just talk us through the reasoning. Why you don't want Breakfast with Harf and Racing Pulse on the new station?' Hutchison responded: 'First of all they're magnificent shows, so no disrespect at all to the quality of the programs and the identities involved, you in particular Michael and Daniel, who have been incredible servants of RSN. 'There's nothing personal about (cancelling) either of those programs … we need to invest, over time, into the racing product, it's a racing station. 'It's a different audience to the one that we have developed over on SEN Track, very different audience, very different experience, they don't really resemble each other after midday.' He went on to say: 'I know that won't be everyone's cup of tea on day one. 'You (Felgate) have got an enormous following, so does Daniel. The default position from many will be to have empathy for those programs and I respect that hugely. Hugely, because it's not about the quality of the shows.' Harford, who has been an icon of the network, said on his show last Thursday it had been 'a period of uncertainty' for those involved. 'So at the end of August this program will cease to exist,' he said. 'We'll be no longer required and there will be different programming on RSN which is very sad. 'We've been doing this for a long time, which is very sad. We've had a lot of conversations about this internally for a little while. 'Certainly in the last couple of days when we found out what was going to be happening. 'So that's the reality of our situation.' The Hutchison-led group announced RSN will double dip from the Hutchison-backed SEN network and will broadcast SEN Breakfast. SEN's flagship breakfast slot, whish is shared between Cornes, David King, Tim Watson and Garry Lyon, will now be broadcast on two frequencies. Felgate's Racing Pulse will be replaced by Gareth Hall's Giddy Up.

Ben Cousins weighs in on Harley Reid's future amid $20m call
Ben Cousins says he can't see why Harley Reid would leave West Coast amid constant speculation about the 20-year-old's AFL future. Reid has played his best football in the past month for the Eagles and was their best player in a 49-point loss to Richmond on the weekend, racking up 27 disposals and two goals. The midfielder has long been linked with a move back to Victoria once his rookie contract expires, but reports emerged over the weekend that his camp was discussing a contract extension at West Coast worth up to $20 million. Eagles legend Cousins said on Monday he is hopeful Reid will remain at the Eagles for the long term. 'I don't see any reason why he won't (stay),' Cousins told Mix 94.5. 'I haven't seen anything to suggest why he would leave. He's got so much footy ahead of him that if he puts his head down and makes the most of wherever he is, hopefully West Coast, then there is a lot to look forward to in the future. 'I think regardless of where Harley ends up, if he just focuses on playing good footy, the financial side of things, he's not going to have to worry about. 'He's going to get very well paid.' Reid wears the No. 9 guernsey previously donned by Cousins, the 2005 Brownlow Medallist and 2006 premiership player, and All Australian ruckman Nic Naitanui. Journalist Ryan Daniels reported on Triple M a number of options had been presented to the club about what a new deal could look like for Reid. One contract stipulation is reportedly a 'long-term commitment', news that would be music to the ears of the fan base. 'There's been a bit of a twist in this one because nothing has happened for quite a while and I can tell you the latest with this one is a bit of a strange one because my understanding is Harley's management have put some options to the West Coast Eagles to stay,' Daniels said on Triple M. 'One of them in particular is a very long deal, I don't know the specific number of years but it was described to me as very long as I think you could imagine would be nine or 10-year range. 'It would have to be between 15 and 20 million, and I would say we're heading closer to the 20 million … if you're talking 10 years into the future (salaries will go up in that time). 'I found this fascinating, the West Coast Eagles have had these presented to them weeks ago, and they haven't necessarily done anything with it just yet. 'I just found it fascinating that instead of the Eagles putting the offer on the table to consider all these options … we've now had a conversation 'well what about this?' 'And it's got a potential for Harley to have a look at a very long-term deal that will keep him at the West Coast Eagles and clearly there is some interest from Harley's side. 'That is a pretty significant update on that situation and I know there is going to be a meeting in the next few days between West Coast and Harley's management to discuss the specifics.' West Coast fans were left frustrated by the heavy loss at home to fellow rebuilding side Richmond, with the Tigers notching up their fifth win of the season. 'West Coast supporters have been, by and large, unbelievable over a really tough period the last few years,' Cousins said. 'I think they still turn up in numbers, they've been very good. 'I think (the loss to the Tigers) may have hit players and supporters harder because it was the first game this year the Eagles went in as favourites, and both sides would have said it was a very winnable game. 'So maybe the expectation was a little higher … and they just fell short. They can and will do better.' Eagles coach Andrew McQualter, speaking after the club's loss to Richmond, conceded too much was being asked of Reid, at a time where his future remains unclear after next year. 'We're aware we've got a 20-year-old carrying our midfield,' McQualter said. 'It's not an easy position for him. 'I thought Harley was by far our best player … I love the way he went about it. 'I loved his team first approach, the way he attacked the ball. He was inspirational to his teammates. 'As a team, we have to find more people and players and ways to not rely on one person. There's no AFL team ever that relies on one player to be good. 'He's absolutely in (at West Coast) – he is a competitor. He's wanting to do everything to get this club out of this position.'
