Mission Admission seminar guides students for bachelor's, MBBS & other courses abroad

Pune: From questions about internships to securing the best scholarships, queries related to MBBS admissions abroad and bachelor's programmes in Germany were addressed on Sunday as part of the Mission Admission, an initiative by The Times of India and Astute Academy. The seminars were conducted in two sessions by chairman of Astute Academy, Tushar Deoras, at the Progressive Education Society's auditorium. The first seminar, at 10.30am, covered the Free Germany-English Medium Bachelor's programmes. Deoras said Germany is the world's third-largest economy and a developed country. He explained the complete admission criteria of Germany in prestigious Technical Universities (TUs), Technical Universities (TU) of Applied Science and Applied Science Public Universities. Deoras said, "One of the highlights of the course is that students are not required to take the most challenging Feststellungsprüfung (FSP) exam. The FSP is an assessment test for international students seeking to study at German universities to be taken after the Studienkolleg. Additionally, before students fly from India, Astute will obtain a university admission letter and a Studienkolleg admission letter, which is a rare and unique achievement." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 motivi per rottamare ora la caldaia per una pompa di calore Aira Scopri di più Undo You Can Also Check: Pune AQI | Weather in Pune | Bank Holidays in Pune | Public Holidays in Pune Students who passed Standard XII can join colleges in Sept/Oct 2025. Deoras said Germany offered the fastest citizenship route and was one of the most sought-after European countries. During the second seminar, which started around 12.30pm, Deoras guided the audience regarding medical post-graduation in the USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand, the only countries accepted by the National Medical Commission. A parent, whose daughter is in the third year of MBBS and willing to pursue PG abroad, said, "We are confused regarding her admission for PG, whether it should be done from India or abroad. The money factor is huge, but we are very keen on taking specialised training in universities abroad." Deoras guided the parent regarding the specific query and stated that PG admissions in India would also cost around Rs 30 to 40 lakh. If the applications are made to universities with proper guidance and advance planning, the PG programme abroad was possible. Deoras explained many pathway programmes for students of biological sciences like Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Biotechnology, Biology, Microbiology, Physiotherapy and other courses to practice Allopathy in the USA.

Fuel subsidy to be released once crude oil hits $80/barrel —Dizon

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon on Thursday said the government is ready to grant fuel subsidies to over 1.1 million bus, jeepney, tricycle, and ride-hailing application drivers once global crude oil prices surpass the $80 per barrel threshold amid the Israel-Iran conflict. At a Palace press briefing, Dizon said the Marcos administration is 'fully prepared' to implement the Fuel Subsidy Program (FSP) for the public transport sector, in accordance with the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA). The Transport chief said a total of P2.5 billion has been earmarked under the 2025 GAA for the FSP, while an additional P617 million remains available from the 2024 budget. The FSP will benefit an estimated 1,132,407 individuals, including 258,712 Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) operators and drivers, 723,695 tricycle drivers, and 150,000 ride-hailing application drivers. The fuel subsidy will be disbursed through multiple channels to ensure fast and efficient distribution, such as existing Pantawid Pasada or fuel cards, registered e-wallets (GCash and Maya), bank-to-bank transfers, and cash distribution through the Land Bank of the Philippines. Dizon said crude oil prices have reached $78 per barrel in the past few days, which was still below the required threshold under the 2025 GAA. 'The government continues to monitor global prices closely and will act promptly should the US$80 mark be breached,' Dizon said. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier said that there was no need to implement the FSP yet, though he assured the public that 'the government is ready to protect the livelihood of transport workers and ensure they receive timely support in the face of rising fuel costs due to the conflict between Israel and Iran.' Department of Energy officer-in-charge Sharon Garin also said that the government's fuel subsidy program might not be activated yet, as crude oil prices have not breached the $80 per barrel threshold. — VBL, GMA Integrated News

International financial institutions build stakes in Dalata

The latest to declare a holding in the company was Barclays, the British bank, which has bought almost 1.7 million shares, giving it a 0.8pc stake. It joined BNP Paribas, the French bank, which disclosed yesterday that it had both shares and short positions in Dalata. According to its filing with the Irish Takeover Panel, the bank now holds just over 5.2 million shares, a 2.5pc stake. It reduced its short positions by 355,653 shares. Short selling means borrowing shares whose price you think will fall and selling them. The intention is to buy the stock back at a lower price, return the borrowed stock, and pocket the profits. Societe Generale, another French bank, has also declared its ownership and short positions in Dalata. In its filing to the regulatory authorities, Societe Generale disclosed it has a total interest of almost 5.2 million shares, equal to a 2.45pc stake. Its short positions are relatively small – amounting to 0.03pc of the stock. Goldman Sachs has already increased its voting rights in Dalata to 4.83pc. State Street Global Advisors has a stake of just over 1pc. Fil Ltd and its subsidiaries have disclosed a 6.3pc stake in Dalata, which owns 55 hotel properties in Britain and Ireland and is listed on the stock exchanges in London and Dublin. In a filing by Davy Stockbrokers, it declared both purchases and sales of shares of Dalata, saying it had bought 71,206 at prices ranging from €6.25 to €6.35, and sold 74,579 shares at prices from €6.27 to €6.37. Dalata's share price reached €6.43 just after midday yesterday, its highest point in over a year, before falling back in afternoon trading. There were over 350,000 shares worth over €2.2m traded throughout the day. Last week Dalata, whose chief executive is Dermot Crowley, rejected a €1.3bn offer from a Scandinavian consortium, saying it materially undervalued the group. The offer of €6.05 a share by Pandox and Eiendomsspar represented a premium of just over 27pc on the €4.76 closing price of March 5, the last trading day before Dalata announced it was launching a strategic review, with one option being a sale. In an announcement made within hours of the offer being notified, Dalata rejected it, a move that has been vindicated by the subsequent surge in the company's share price. 'The board announced a strategic review on March 6 to explore options available to optimise capital opportunities for the group and to enhance value for shareholders, including a Formal Sales Process (FSP) pursuant to the Irish takeover rules,' it said in a statement. 'The board continues to engage in constructive discussions with a number of parties who are participating in the FSP and who have submitted initial non-binding proposals to acquire the entire issued and to-be-issued share capital of the group.' Yesterday, a spokeswoman for Dalata said there was no update on this position. Under takeover rules, the Scandinavian consortium has until July 15 to either announce a binding intention to make a bid for Dalata, or to pull out.
