EA Sports immortalizes Diogo Jota after removing Liverpool hero from EAFC 25 game
Tributes to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva continue to pour in. The Liverpool man was also an avid player of EAFC (formerly FIFA), and makers EA Sports have become the latest to pay their respects following the brothers' shock passing. If there is one remotely positive thing to come out of the tragedy, it is a reminder of the impact that Diogo and Andre had on so many, as has been made apparent by the mass outpouring of grief from all over the world. Part of the massive legacy that Jota leaves behind is his own eSports team, Luna Galaxy. He personally was just as talented on the virtual pitch as the real one, winning a Premier League FIFA tournament back in 2020; he beat Trent Alexander-Arnold in the final. He was also at one point the top-ranked player in FUT Champions, a competitive game mode within Ultimate Team. Having initially removed his Ultimate Team card from the EAFC 25 game, as is standard practice when an active player passes away, the makers of the game have since put together a poignant gesture. Every player of FC25 Ultimate Team has been sent a special tifo pack. It contains his No. 18 jersey from his time at Wolves, his No. 19 jersey from Porto, and his No. 20 jersey from Liverpool. Liverpool, meanwhile, has taken the decision to retire the No. 20 jersey. Jota is now listed under his own "forever" section on the club's squad list. Players can choose to display the tifos in-game as a virtual tribute to Jota. "To honor and celebrate the life of one of our most passionate FC players, three new Diogo Jota Tifos have been added to your UT Club," EA Sports wrote to its players. The message was headlined "one of us". It isn't the first eSports-related tribute Jota has received. Among the moving scenes of tributes laid outside Anfield, various gaming controllers were left. Like Liverpool, both Porto and Wolves have also marked Jota's passing in their own ways. Molineux was also flooded with tributes, with the flowers now set to be turned into colored ink to form part of a more permanent memento. Meanwhile, Wolves also enrolled Jota into the club's Hall of Fame. Made up of historic players and teams from the club's past, he is one of fewer than 40 members, and the first addition in more than two years. Porto will honor Jota at an upcoming friendly with Atletico Madrid. The forward actually represented both clubs, although he never played competitively for the Spanish side. Around the world, players have also been paying personal tributes by emulating Jota's "gaming" celebration. They sit down and mime holding a controller, as Jota would do on occasion. Darwin Nunez and Ousmane Dembele have both paid their respect in this fashion, as have others. Like the EA Sports tribute, it's a fitting touch to honor someone who was genuinely elite in two separate fields.

Raúl Jiménez Pays Tribute To Late 'Great Friend' Diogo Jota At Gold Cup Final
Mexico striker Raúl Jiménez made a pair of touching tributes to his late teammate Diogo Jota during the Concacaf Gold Cup final at NRG Stadium in Houston on Sunday. Before kickoff, Jiménez walked onto the pitch wearing a Mexico jersey with the name "Diogo J" on the back. Jiménez was teammates with the Portuguese forward for two seasons at Wolverhampton Wanderers when the club was in the Premier League. Jota and his brother were killed in a car accident in Spain when the Lamborghini they were driving in veered off a road and burst into flames, police said Thursday. Jota was 28 years old and his brother, André, was 25. "Diogo was a great friend who was with me at Wolves. There were times that we stayed in communication, we shared wonderful moments aside from the important things we were chasing for that time. It is hard to see this, someone so close to you who was a great friend," Jimenez said Saturday. Then, when Jiménez scored the equalizer for Mexico against the United States in the 27th minute, Jiménez sat down and did Jota's signature celebration, which involves sitting down and playing with an imaginary gaming controller. Jiménez also draped the custom Mexico jersey with Jota's name on the back over his crossed legs. Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé did the same after his goal at the FIFA Club World Cup, as did Real Salt Lake winger Diogo Gonçalves, who came up in Portugal's youth ranks with Jota. Explaining the celebration Diogo Jota was more than a massive fan of EA Sports FC (formerly EA Sports FIFA); he was an accomplished player. In April 2020, Jota famously went 30-0 in FUT Champions, the premier competition in EA Sports FC's Ultimate Team. As a result of his undefeated record, Jota was ranked among the Top 20 players in the world — and it didn't stop there. Jota qualified for the FIFA Global Series Qualifier — one of the fiercest FIFA competitions in Europe — in 2022. He lost to 2017 world champion Gorilla in his tournament debut, but was heralded for holding his own. Jota became the owner of esports team Galaxy racer in 2023 and merged it with his own team, Diogo Jota Sports, which was later renamed to Luna Sports. Luna Sports won the FC 24 Esports World Cup last year through EA FC pro João Vasconcelos. Huge EA FC 25 FUT Champions update makes qualifying easier than ever before
EA Sports has given FUT Champions a huge refresh that should see more players qualify for the finals in the coming weeks. Qualifying for the FUT Champions Finals has been easier than ever in EA FC 25, and the difficulty of reaching the pinnacle of Ultimate Team competitions has just been turned down a notch once again. If EA FC 25 is your first taste of the EA Sports FC series, there's never been a better time to be a beginner, with EA Sports making it extremely easy to compete in Ultimate Team this year. There are countless ways to build the best teams possible, and as we spoke about in our analysis of how overpowered PlayStyles are, the gameplay feels assisted to help beginners compete across all game modes from the get-go. The one game mode that still seemed to be a difficult sweat-fest was the EA FC 25 Champions Finals. At the beginning of EA FC 25, you needed to win three out of five FUT Champions Play-Off games to reach the Finals, making FUT Champions a place where the best-of-the-best would face off. It didn't take long for EA to drop the threshold to two wins instead, and now, with TOTS rewards now available and the demand for free packs higher than ever, EA has made another EA FC 25 FUT Champions update, meaning players need to win just one of five Play-Off games to earn qualification for the Champions Finals. EA eases the EA FC 25 FUT Champions grind Announcing the update on its @EASFCDirect Twitter account, EA confirmed the change, stating: "Starting today, the number of wins required to enter the FUT Champions Finals has been lowered from two wins to one. "Please note, after winning the first match, this may not show as qualified on the End of Match screen. The qualification will be shown when entering the FUT Champions menu." Dropping the required number of wins from two to one ensures that almost every Ultimate Team player will be able to qualify for the Champions Finals, but more importantly, it means that matchmaking in the Champions Finals should become much easier, making those illustrious TOTS rewards easier than ever to earn, especially for players who have been competing in the Champions Finals week-in week-out since release. This update comes just a day after EA released the 'Intro to SBCs Challenge' SBC, which is very obviously targeted towards new Ultimate Team players. With EA adding all this beginner-tailored content, don't be surprised to see EA FC 25 come to PS Plus or Xbox Game Pass next month.
