Manchester City enquire about Barcelona star amid contract negotiations
Barcelona have thus far done a decent job of retaining most of their stars since the global pandemic, despite a significant financial crisis that has hampered their plans for the past five years. The only major departures that the club were not open to, albeit hugely important, were Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele. Manchester City are seeking to change that. Director of Football Deco has placed a special emphasis on retaining the club's major stars before seeking to bring in major signings, as evidenced by a flurry of contract renewals for the likes of Pedri, Gavi, Ronald Araujo and Lamine Yamal amongst others. The next to follow would in theory be Jules Kounde, who is out of contract in the summer of 2027. Manchester City interest in Jules Kounde Jules Kounde got the goal but not the penalty. City are interested in the French defender though, who excelled in central defence at Sevilla and over the last three seasons has performed well at right-back for the Blaugrana. French journalist Fabrice Hawkins reports that Manchester City are one of the two top clubs that have made enquiries about his compatriot. Barcelona have been trying to negotiate a new deal with Kounde for several weeks, after the first reports of negotiations emerged in February this year, and Hawkins explains that both Kounde and Barcelona are hopeful of a deal, with the latter considering him the best in the world at his position. Kounde's other suitor (in the Premier League?) Barcelona will want to wrap up a new deal before next summer, when they might be forced to slash his asking price. There have been a number of links to both Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premier League over recent months, with the former reportedly in regular contact with his agent. The Blues also tried to sign Kounde when he left Sevilla in 2021. It would be no surprise if his representation was in contact with Premier League sides to test the market and see what kind of salary Kounde could be offered elsewhere.

Barcelona star ‘signed' for his new club on Friday
Barcelona star 'signed' for his new club on Friday Barcelona star Ansu Fati has already put pen to paper on terms with his new club. That's according to French football insider Fabrice Hawkins, who, as expected, points towards AS Monaco as the outfit in question. Advertisement Monaco have of course been tipped as wide-man Ansu's most likely summer landing spot for some time now. As much comes after the principality side opened talks with those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou, over the terms of a loan deal for the 22-year-old. And after weeks of back-and-forth negotiations, late this week, Monaco appear to have officially landed their man. As per a report from the aforementioned Fabrice Hawkins: 'Ansu Fati also signed with Monaco yesterday, coming from FC Barcelona. Loan with a purchase option of €11m.' An official announcement on the part of Monaco is expected at some point early next week, as Ansu prepares for a new adventure in France. Conor Laird – GSFN

Paul Pogba set to make financial sacrifices in order to join Monaco
According to a report from Fabrice Hawkins, Paul Pogba (31) is willing to make financial sacrifices regarding his salary demands in order to sign for AS Monaco this summer. The France international midfielder has taken the necessary steps to complete the move to the Principality club. Pogba is a free agent after his contract with Juventus was terminated following the premature end to his drug suspension. Talks are ongoing between Les Monégasques and the representatives of the 31-year-old midfielder. Monaco are said to be cautious in the negotiations, but Pogba has been clear in his desire to make the move happen before the beginning of the new Ligue 1 season. Advertisement The former Manchester United midfielder has already been searching for property on the Côte d'Azur to settle his family in the Principality if the transfer does eventually go through. With the Frenchman willing to reduce his salary demands, Monaco could be willing to make the move happen. GFFN | Liam Wraith

The striker/winger is said to be signing a long-term deal in Scotland despite being offered a contract by PSG. With seven goals and four assists this season the attacker has been won over by 'the Rangers project' and a chance at senior European football, according to the journalist. Attacking reinforcement could be an important area for the Gers in the near future. Cyriel Dessers has drawn criticism for his performances even despite finishing the league season today as top scorer with 18 goals. We also reported yesterday that Greek side AEK Athens are highly interested in a swoop for the forward. Loan star Vaclav Cerny looks set to return to parent club Wolfsburg after a high price tag was set on the fan favourite. And on top of that, media reports indicate French team Strasbourg want to acquire 22-year-old Moroccan Hamza Igamane. A big season lies ahead at Ibrox as the 49ers takeover looms while rivals Celtic celebrate a fourth successive league title, and possibly another treble with the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen taking place next weekend. Interim boss Barry Ferguson's future still remains up in the air as the favourite of bookies to be permanent manager next campaign is once again Steven Gerrard. Tense scenes in Glasgow as Celtic fans in stand off with Orange walk followers Betting had been suspended as Real Madrid man Davide Ancelotti looked a cert to be in the dugout, but the bombshell dropped that he could go to Brazil with his dad, Carlo. Meanwhile Ferguson's final game (for now at least) was marred with VAR drama. Nico Raskin appeared to get the ball over the goal line but nothing was awarded. The interim gaffer said: "I've got to be careful what I say. I don't want to get myself into trouble. "But that is baffling. "I seen it when it happened, I seen it again at half-time and I seen it again at the end of the game. What's the point?" "The fourth official was brand new but the referee? Not interested. "I've seen it all season with bad decisions. Not just with Rangers but with other teams. "But that today was just mind blowing." Donnarumma's Inter move unlikely as PSG optimistic about contract extension
Chances of Italy star Gianluigi Donnarumma staying at PSG are reportedly on the rise after the club decided to reopen negotiations over his contract extension. This follows weeks of tension, which were also marked by rumours about a potential move to Inter. With his deal with the Ligue 1 giants expiring in June 2026, talks between the player and the club had already started in the previous months, but difficulties in coming to an agreement sparked speculation about his future at the Parc des Princes. Some recent reports from Italy suggested that Inter were keeping close tabs on the former Milan goalkeeper and had already contacted his entourage to understand the feasibility of a potential deal. However, the latest updates from RMC Sport claim that PSG are 'optimistic' about extending the 25-year-old contract after reopening discussions with his agents. — Fabrice Hawkins (@FabriceHawkins) February 6, 2025 The Italy international was already informed that he would need to accept the club's updated policy, which entails lower fixed salaries combined with a variable component tied to performance and the number of matches played. French media reports that both Donnarumma and the Ligue 1 powerhouse are willing to sign a new deal, which is expected to be finalized before next summer, when the player will have only one year left on his current contract.
